Good game design, but hard

Advance wars is a well designed game, with simple use of controls and gameplay is well rounded. The menu and in-game music suit the game well. The only issue (and it may not even be an issue to some gamers), it's an extremely hard game with many levels that just gets harder. It is very complex, with several different CO's, maps, and most importantly, units. Each unit has its own pros and cons, along with different ranges, firepower, and mobility. I found it challenging to remember all these, and although you can look the stats up for each unit by pressing the R button, it doesn't tell you how well it does to a specific unit on the opposite team.Read full review...

One of Nintendo's Best Handheld Games

Ive owned this game before, but it left my possesion. However, not before I played it for countless hours. Its a great strategy game that I highly recomend to anyone who loves a good chess match, and even might like the whole war era feel. Tanks, Bombers, Fighters, Submarines, Infantry, Direct fighters, Indirect fighters; all these elements combine in this turn based game. You can play the main story line, kicking butt all the way to enemy lines, or test your skills in the war room, where you can pick hundreds of maps to fight on. And if that does'nt satisfy you, there are tons of unlockable features, as well as hidden alternate game endings based on players choices. The games has a variety of characters with whom you command your armies. Each character has a unique ability about them, and when thier co power meter fills up, they unleash thier power on the enemies! Advance Wars is a game with HOURS of play time; the game SCREAMS replay value. The reason: you are able to make maps yourself, with a map editor. Create challenging courses for you and a computer or you and a friend can duke it out on. You can even send maps to a friend and vice versa. Even if you only have ONE game cartridge, its STILL 2 players. Even better, with ONE game you can play with up to 4 PLAYERS.

This game is perfection, as most of the Advance Wars series is as well. I highly recomend that you purchase this, as no gameboy player should be without its experience.Read full review...

Can't go wrong with this game! This game is a must have for the gameboy advance. If you like turn based games with strategy, this is the game for you!

Fun & Nostalgic

Although the start is tedious you have a legendary game that started/introduced to the west strategic/turned based gaming and helped grow interest for the genre. Helping skyrocket more future releases to the West and also in turn helping the release of fire emblem.Read full review...

Ages like fine wine

Strategy lover's REJOICE!

If you love strategy gaming but haven't heard about Advanced Wars you have been missing out. This is the one that started it all.

Advanced Wars for the Game Boy Advance has been hailed as one of the systems best strategy offerings. I was fortunate to get a used copy of this game on eBay as it is in short supply. You would be hard pressed to find a new copy of the game.

Anyway, I'm not a professional reviewer so if you need more information on Advance Wars you will need to Google but know that as of the time I wrote this I consider Advance Wars to be in a class of it's own, strategy-wise.Read full review...

Best Pocket War game ever!

This game is single hadedly resposible for my gaming addiction. If you enjoy details, strategy and tactics at its very best than this is the & game for you. It has tons of replayability too. At present there are 3 more editions A.W. Black Hole, A.W. Dual Strike, A.W. Days of Ruin (the 2 latter for the DS). If you think Nintendo is just for kids, this series will change your mind. They haven't survived over 100 years for nothing. I'm over 50 and find this very entertaining. Each game offers a robust single player AND multiplayer maps. YOu can easily invest 100's of hours but pick-up-and-play on the go is what it's all about. At its core it's like chess with a war theme and varied story, maps and graphics. Brought that "Happy-Little-Kid" smile on my college kid's face

I decided to purchase this item because my college kid loooooooved advance wars and when I sold his game boy and games... he was heart broken when he found out it was in the lot.

Since purchasing this game, he's been playing all summer break long. I love seeing the joy of nostalgia in his eyes playin this game. He has the same look I get when I play Nintendo Super Mario Bros when I come across a demo at the mall! haha

Anyhow, graphics are to be as expected for this genre. It reminds me of the game board Risk. Lots of strategic planning. This would be great for a young adult that is missing his childhood or a teenager. I don't believe someone 13 and younger would find interest in this game. As I said it's kind of like the board game Risk. A younger kid may lose interest in this quickly.Read full review...
