Incredible value for money if you understand that a basic upgrade is needed

When i was first considering a Tablet PC the name Advent Vega didn't exactly spring to mind, In fact i had barely even considered Advent as a real option to my needs when devices such as Apples ipad and the stunning Asus Epad Transformer were available abet at some frankly shocking prices.
I could not have been more surprised when i came across the Advent Vega especially when considering its features. the 10' capasitive screen and frankly staggering processing power in the form of a Tegra2 processor wrapped up in a sleek and remarkably thin body for under £200 blew me away.

Now with this low price there were some issues, the tablet is a little heavy despite its slim frame and its "out of the box" features are shockingly limited having no access to the android market and no 3g capability but thanks to a huge following online and various forums this so called "budget" tablet when enhanced with the "vegacomb" Android operating system (a variation of the Honeycomb OS designed specifically for the Vega tablet) can not only match Tablets valued at more than double the current selling rate but in some cases thoroughly leave them in its proverbial dust in terms of processing and gameplay capability.

The unlocked Nvidia Tegra processor is a match for even the very best available at this time and benefits from direct support from Nvidis itself in the form of its own inbuilt application offering access to a world of gaming potential and graphical enhancements that put the Vega well into the big leagues as a mobile media platform, this is further enhanced with an integrated HDMI output to allow you to take your games, movies and other media to the next level by plugging it into your HDMI ready TV or monitor transforming it from a simple tablet pc into a fully fledged media server or gaming console.

That's not to say that flashing a modified OS fixes all the potential pitfalls as the build quality although exceptional for its price range dies let it down a little relying on plastic as its primary construction material and can feel a little cheap and frankly feeling a little fragile making a decent case not so much a choice as a necessity.

The Vega also suffers from a horribly limited internal memory thus demanding a high capacity micro SD card in order to take full advantage of its media capability. This is somewhat compensated by a standard 4GB micro SD card shipped with the unit and a USB slot for use with any number of USB sticks and external HD's.

As mentioned earlier the unit also has a high speed USB port, this can be used for a number of media and input devices such as mice, keyboard's etc but i have found that with the addition of the Vega's keyboard jacket and an off the shelf USB adapter the Vega can transform itself into a decent match for the significantly more expensive Asus Transformer and function as reasonable Laptop PC for day to day use and when combined with any android phone as a wireless hotspot it can even match its big brothers 3g online capability.

All in all the Vega is exceptional value for money but if you are going to buy one be aware that you will have to manually update the operating system in order for it to function at any real level but considering that various development teams and forums have decreed that the vega is "idiot proof" and "unbrickable" means even the most tech limited tablet user will find this upgrade a no brainer.

pretty good value but upgrade the rom for best effect

Bought this on the advice of my brother, an IT professional, whos work colleagues had seen it on offer at £139 and bought a few from the PCW Currys outlet here on ebay. It has a solid feel to it and screen is good looking and responsive. The stock version of Android did not last long and I put a modaco rom on to allow android market to be used and a few other things.for a £10 upgrade this really does make the tablet a much better machine even if you just use it for viewing iplayer. It runs most things pretty wellRead full review...

Well worth the money and great quality.

I do not own a smart phone that's why wanted to get a tablet to accomodate my smartphone needs. Even though Vega is one of the old tablets, it can still compete with the current tablets and can possibly win. It has all the features that you can think of and expandable memory gives peace of mind. To me that only downside is that you can't charge it with the USB cable. It is made nicely not like chinese versions and runs very smoothly on Adnroid 4.Read full review...

An Excellent performing Tablet providing it has a modified ROM installed

If you want a tablet to do the same sort of things as an Ipad but at a fraction of the price and have a link to the Android Market so apps are far cheaper than for an Ipad or a Playbook, then this is the tablet. However you have to flash it with a different ROM, sounds technical? its really easy and there are plenty of YouTube stage by stage directions available to watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQTdEVzY0dI it really is a brilliant tablet for about a £100 and expandable to 32Gb cheaply enough.Read full review...

Have a good tablet and learn more anout Android

I bought the Advent Vega because I wanted to try out a tablet without paying a lot of money. I also wanted to try my hand at flashing it to a better Android operating system. After watching a lot of 'how to' videos on youtube and reading the articles and comments by the very friendly guys on http://www.tabletroms.com I now have a tablet running on 'HoneyIce' very successfully.Read full review...

I bought this Tablet because my partner dropped my other one, and I was told it was a waste of time to repair it . This ones fine and I bought it from Currys outlet shop for A LOT LESS than I paid for the original one. Very pleased.Read full review...
