*~*~ A So-So Movie. Less Than Expected ~*~* 5.5/10

ALPHA DOG seemed very interesting and caught our attention from day one from the preview trailers, so we ran out and bought it. After watching it, it didnt quite keep our "full" attention, and was less interesting than expected. Not a lot of action, somewhat "dry" at points, and the mid to end was very disappointing, as we expected a different ending.
The movie was "Inspired By True Events".

Most likely a movie we will not watch again, but maybe. :)

Our Overall Rating: 5.5/10

A TRUE FBI STORY

I just saw this @ Sundance. The people leaving the first screening gave this bad buzz so I was sceptic as to what I was in for. but Since I got a ticket @ face value I went on in. Much to my surprise this turned out to be a good flick. I'm tired of the happy hollywood endings and prefer something more real. Well, this was based on a true story! Bruce willis was his typical self. Sharon stone was great, especially at the ending! The only reason I can think why the first screening gave it bad reviews was, the people were parents, & were relating to the errors that the parents in the movie made. If you want a happy ending, rent something else. If you want to see what really happens when people make bad decisions in life then you should like this.Read full review...

No Sympathy

Though the movie is well made, the acting is fine, and it is based on a true story. I have to say that there wasn't one single character in the movie (save perhaps the worried mother played by Sharon Stone) that was worth even a second of sympathy. I felt ZERO emotion for anyone in the film. IMO each one (and surprisingly) even the poor missing "victim" was NOT worth the waste of oxygen it took to keep them alive. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but the entire cast of characters were useless druggy "Gangsta" trash. Granted perhaps that was the point of the film, to show how useless that culture group of youngsters really were, how that behavior, "Scene" and the priorities there-in were such a waste of space in just about every way. Most surprising as I mentioned was there missing boy at the center of the film. His behavior most of all was so shocking that the end result barely made me feel a bit of sorrow for him.Talk about willingly lost souls.Read full review...

Timberlake Shines!

Justin Timberlake breaks out of the Boy Band and into the Movies!! Alpha Dog is Based on a True Tragic Story of how Things can spiral out of Control quickly when Dealing Drugs are involved. The Opening scene begins with a Gathering in a Lavish Suite of the Young Drug Lord. This scene sets the Tone and Hierarchy of the Close Circle of Friends, some of whom are obviously just the brainless leg-men. The Plot Thickens when a Large Deal with a Drug User/Distributor outside of the circle of friends turns south when the debt cannot be repaid. The Kingpin devises a diabolical plot to strike revenge against the Deadbeat User by Kidnapping his Innocent Adolescent Brother. One thing leads to another and Justin Ends up being the "Babysitter" and befriending the Kidnapped boy even letting him party and hang out with him at parties unrestrained. My Heart went out to the Naive Boy who actually had chances/offers to escape but decides instead to hang out with his Newfound "Friend". Knowing the Conclusion of the Movie was inevitable it was Sad watching a Young Boy Live, Love and Learn his Last Day! The ending was very Moving watching the Tearful Exchange between the Victim and Justin.
The Performances of Justin and the Kid were Sensational. They put you actually in the moment of the Tragic Events. Justin is full of Tatoos and Often shirtless which only adds to this Truth Based Tragic Story!! I recommend this movie to be watched with the whole family as a Very Valuable Lesson about Drugs and Misplaced Loyalties can be learned by all! Thank You for Reading!! Happy Ebaying!

Alpha Dog

He takes his shirt off, sports tattoos, acts tough and smokes a shitload of weed. That's right, Justin Timberlake plays a shit-for-brains in Alpha Dog. His Frankie is head flunky for a snot-nosed California pot dealer (Emile Hirsch). But what Timberlake lacks in cool, he makes up for in cred. This is a fine, fierce dramatic performance, alive in the eyes, in the gestures that reveal a scared kid under Frankie's bravado. You watch Timberlake in this movie and you want to see him take on bigger risks. His comic touch shone brightly on a recent Saturday Night Live, especially in the skit where he stuck his dick in a box and made the girls open it. Mr. SexyBack has talent way beyond his voice and hunk appeal. And that it shows through in a movie this inane, inauthentic and irritating is a tribute to him.

Alpha Dog is a gloss on the true story of Jesse James Hollywood (Hirsch plays him as Johnny Truelove), arrested in 2005 for the 2000 kidnapping and murder of the teenage Nicholas Markowitz (Anton Yelchin plays the kid as Zack Mazursky). Writer-director Nick Cassavetes, whose rap sheet includes the execrable John Q and The Notebook, was reportedly given access to inside info on the case as it was happening.

Alpha Dog

ALPHA DOG is a tough movie to watch. The story, in part because it is true, is repugnant, and the slice of life in 1999 in San Gabriel Valley, California. But this heinous kidnap/murder of a 15-year-old kid by his peers is captured in an intense manner by writer/director Nick Cassavetes in the way he has cast, directed, and propelled this story of the infamous Jesse James Hollywood to the screen. It is tough to watch but it needed to be put in front of us to make us examine current parenting/adolescent dysfunction and the possible results. The story is so well known that summarizing it is most likely unnecessary. The cast is strong and includes Emil Hirsch as Johnny (the Alpha Dog), Justin Timberlake, Shawn Hatosy, Fernando Vargas, and Vincent Kartheiser as Johnny's 'gang' Ben Foster as the addicted debtor whose brother Anton Yelchin is killed and Bruce Willis, Sharon Stone, David Thornton, and Harry Dean Stanton as some of the severely dysfunctional parents. They make a fine ensemble cast, especially the despicable characters they are asked to portray. Cassavetes ends his movie with a survey of the consequences faced by each of the characters and that helps bring closure to an otherwise difficult bit of history to swallow. Despite the horrifying material, the movie is well made.Read full review...

Toxic Parents / Toxic Kids, mix with drugs and guns

The film that answers the question as to where all the young narcissists (jerks) come from!

The plot was intense, the acting and directing significantly above par, the sociological and philosophical statement very powerful.

A drug culture, unavailabe parents, a souless, hedonistic philosophy, guns and kids with no goals or discipline. The movie scared me since I had neighbors like these families in a million dollar neighborhood on the other coast.

The saddest statement came when an investigator I worked with gave a copy of this to a female attorney who should have learned from it. She had a son with above average intelligence who never really got into school and therefore had poor results. She and her husband were busy in their own world and she thought her sleezy clients were exciting, grass was great, the Sopranos were to be admired, and the world had a good number of wimps that you didn't have to respect in any way. He son was found nearly beated to death in a drug deal gone bad. He was almost 20, hadn't worked in months, was found behind a very bad bar in very bad shape and had nearly $1,000 in cash in his pocket. Not enough to pay the medical bills but he did live. Of course this was a small town in the midwest. Anyway, the PI sent the lawyer a copy of this film. She couldn't see that it had anything to do with her.

Fade to black.
