Excellent Weather Station

This unit was easy to install and works well. No problems with its functionality at all. The unit must be installed some distance away from any obstacles to wind and sun, like buildings and trees, for it to function properly. Don''t put it on a roof top. You have to access the unit every few months to clean the rain gauge and change batteries. Also, that will skew the temperature and wind readings.

I have the sensor array about 100' from the display, and the signal has to go through 2 walls. But, It shows a full 5 bars, and never misses a reading. The WiFi connection works well too. An Android app is required to set up the WiFi, which can be a little finicky, but works with patience.

It needed a firmware update when I received mine, which was done through the Android app. One must reenter any weather service feed credentials one has stored in the unit after firmware updates.

Price is right, the product is NOS....14 years old and parts are not available.

What I discovered is that this weather station is about 14 years old....it is new old stock. When trying to upgrade the battery powered transmitting unit, I discovered that parts are no longer available. While that is a bit disappointing, I have installed the system and it appears to be working as advertised. I did not try to contact the company where I purchased it, only the manufacturer. I hesitate to recommend it unless you are an avid DIYer and sill settle with saving some money rather than having a really new product...Read full review...

A Good Value Overall

This station performs as described. In general, the readouts seems reasonably accurate, with the exception of barometric pressure. The changes in barometric pressure reported by the Ambient 2902C are not nearly as accurate as desired. Frequently off by as much as 0.4 in.

My other complaint is the angular visibility of the display unit. Other reviewers have reported the same. The unit is best visible situated BELOW (!) eye level. So it works best on countertops, desks, tables, etc. Hanging the display on a was is a challenge.

Overall, I would buy this unit again as it is much simpler to install and generally better accurate than most comparably priced stations. Just be aware of the challenges and shortcomings.

Home weather station at its best

Very pleased with the station. Easy assembly, quick mount to a 1-3/4” post. The unit linked up very fast with the signal passing through one wall then about 25 yards. Had to calibrate the inside temperature comparing to a mercury thermometer off about 1.5 degrees. The rain gage is spot on with my regular rain gage which I have to empty. The display setup and units take a little study to get what you want. But after you do it’s easy to switch between options (heat index instead of temperature and such). The viewing angle of the display is a little odd but a stand is provided to help get it angled as needed. Wind speed is great watching the trees start to move a lot and saw 20+ mph gusts displayed. Barometric pressure seems to track the weather pattern as rain moves in. Had no issues linking to the internet for remote access to the conditions at home. But you have to follow the instructions closely. Still learning it’s capabilities.
I’m very pleased with this purchase.

Same features of all the other makes, but the ease of set up is a great benefit.

Easy to set up and function. Only time willl tell how long lasting it will be. Previous brand lasted two years.

Good instrument- accurate and reliable

UPDATE July 2021... Well, it's been a couple of years, and the 2902 needs an update.
I moved the wx stn and got it back online, it's been working great! I recommend this wx stn now...it has proven to be reliable, even in the ungodly heat of AZ..

I had multiple problems with getting the unit connected to the Internet, and more problems with getting readings correct. Apparently there are known issues with certain phone/router combinations. I finally got it working with a work-around supplied by Ed at Ambient. The console seems flimsy and display has a narrow viewing angle. A poor product.

Very solid once set-up.

I managed to get this installed a couple of years ago. No problems with mounting it or setting up wifi connection, but registering was a bit tricky. However, with some grit and patience I got it all set up, and to its enormous credit, it's worked ever since without any tinkering. It's so reliable I know that when I'm away from home and it doesn't show up on the Ambient Weather site either the power or internet is out in my house, or most often Ambient's data base is down. Only the difficulty registering it and starting the data archiving deprives it of a perfect score, plus the limited access to archived data.Read full review...

Great weather station and DON'T buy a mounting brack before reading my review.

So far the weather station is working well. It was fairly easy to set up, WiFi and get it started. There is a problem connecting with Wunderground weather, with their password on my other devises, but that seems to be a Wunderground Weather problem. They do not respond to emails ether.
The instruction manual is a little hard to figure, as I am not a weather expert and the order of setup seemed to be a bit out of place, in my opinion. But that could just be me.
The WiFi setup was 100 times easier than the AcuRight Weather Station, WiFi set up, that I pretty much gave up on linking. That is the prime reason, (that and the Ambient Weather Station reviews) I did not choose AcuRight Weather Station, for my next weather station. When I got AcuRight WiFi set up , it went down and was never able to link it again. The AcuRight Station body, also yellowed from the sun and is very brittle now. It appears the Ambient station will not do that. The plastic seems to be a better quality, than the AcuRight station.
The mounting was very easy, after realizing, I could use an old Dish Network/Direct TV, dish mounting bracket and a 6 foot metal fence post from Lowe's. The dish bracket even comes with a coupler, that can attach the pole, to the mounting bracket. The dish bracket allows you to mount to a angled surface, such as an angled roof or overhang, just like the Ambient bracket, you would purchase online. The Dish bracket was free and pole was $12.95 + tax. I was able to take one off the rental house, of a friend, or you could look at local thrift stores, junk shops, flea markets, or ask a neighbor or friend, if they have one, that they are not using. That will save you about $75.00 to $150.00 dollars from ordering a mounting bracket, online. It's basically the same mounting bracket. Works perfectly.
So far I have had 2 rain events and they were very close the actual rain taken from our airport. I live close to the airport, so I can pretty much figure that it is accurate. Everything else seems to be working as intended.

The "pros" and "cons" of the Ambient WS-2902D Remote Weather Station

Admittedly, I've only had my Ambient WS-2902D up-and-running for a few days, so, there really hasn't been sufficient time to run the Weather Station through its paces. The instructions even suggest that you allow up to a month of uninterrupted operation, before making any judgements of its quality and/or accuracy, to give the operating system time to become familiar with "normal weather patterns" in your location......especially when it comes to the "Forecast" function. BUT......as for my initial thoughts about the unit, I was thoroughly impressed with the very-secure packaging, which protects the unit from damage while in-transit. The Instruction Booklet is VERY comprehensive, and yet, easy to understand, and the instructions are easy to follow while assembling the Weather Station, properly mounting the Weather Station and then calibrating the information to your personal preference on the Remote Display Console that you've installed in a suitable location in your home. Choosing the right location for your new Ambient WS-2902D is extremely crucial to the quality of its performance and accuracy, so you need to take extra care when choosing where to place the Weather Station - are there any obstructions that might interfere with the proper recording of Wind Speed or Wind Direction? Are there any obstructions, overhead, such as overhanging trees, that might interfere with the proper measurement of Rainfall, UV Radiation or Light Intensity? AND, if you intend to mount your new Weather Station on the roof, it will need to be mounted at a sufficient height so that radiant heat from the roof itself, summer OR winter, doesn't cause false Outdoor Temperature readings to the Remote Display Console, inside. These are all parameters that are measured by the Ambient WS-2902D, so, choose your mounting location, wisely, so that you will receive accurate weather information. Thus far, I've been very impressed with my new Ambient WS-2902D Remote Weather Station, BUT, as I stated at the beginning of this review, I've only had it running for a few days, so, maybe ask me, again, in February 2024.
CONCERNS OR ISSUES: I DO have a few concerns with the Ambient WS-2902D Remote Weather Station. My first concern is the strength of the plastic from-which the entire Weather Station is constructed - how well will it stand-up to bitter-cold, intense sunlight and possibly, gale-force winds? Only time will tell. My second "issue" is that the Remote Display Console CAN be difficult, if not impossible to read, at various angles. I mounted my Display Console to the wall, directly over my desk, slightly above eye-level, BUT, in-order to see the display, clearly, I had to form a small "wedge" of corrugated cardboard, to put behind the display, tipping it forward, so the data being displayed on the screen was bright and clear. NOT a big "issue", BUT, one that I felt needed to be mentioned. Other than these few items, thus far, I am SUPER-pleased with my new Ambient WS-2902D Remote Weather Station.

Best weather station I have ever used.

Unit works very well temp sensor works correctly in full sun, unlike others I have used that could be off 10 degs with full sun. You need to pay attention when setting it up on your network but once you get it it make the unit even more useful. It has a public broadcast side to the web interface that is great for those around you who you would like to share outside sensor info with. If your numbers are off it can be calibrated. I did not have to adjust any of them. If you like weather data and graphs for the day or even a whole year thise can provide those on the app or web interface. The display is layed out well and easy to read from 5 feet way.
I RECOMMEND for anyone who loves weather data.
Tried to take a good pic but a little refection got in. You can still make out most data.
