Among Wolves is a personal tale about working with captive wolves in a wildlife park, in a country that exterminated wolves by the 18th Century. This is a book about captive wolves, so any criticism of them not being wild is pointless, as is some complaints in reviews about seeing them chained up. The image of one wolf with a simple domestic 'check chain', for its own welfare, is not a sign of abuse or restriction, as the animal pictured was working through hydro therapy. Overall this is a wonderful book which outlines the day by day work done by humans to protect ambassadors of a species in crisis. More can be learned by humans, and about the importance of endangered species, if we all take the time to embrace these facilities, like this one run by the UK Wolf Conservation Trust.
