The Best

Still the best high drama musical production of all time, with utterly smashingly elegant choreography by the spectacularly precise and beautiful Gene Kelly, incomparable artist and dance master. Between Kelly and Astaire, no finer dancers have ever swept across this earth. The lovely Leslie Caron graces the screen with her smooth footwork and sweet presence. Exquisite sets, sleek costumes, gorgeous camera work, perfect direction, incomparable lighting, great attention to detail. Anyone who wants to understand the perception of clean, pure sophistication and class should own this dazzling film and watch it on a regular basis.Read full review...

Fun and Artists in Paris

What wonderful old movie. Gene Kelly had excellent moves. A few lines were corny but time appropriate. Caron was a darling first time star.

Very entertaining!

A very clear and good recording. I enjoyed very much watching the movie and will enjoy as many times as Our Good Lord will allow me! No wonder it won Best Picture for the corresponding year; not surprised at all after watching movie.Read full review...

Singing and dancing through Paris

"An American In Paris" is one of my all time favorite movies. It's light and silly sometimes, people bursting into song and dance with cute kids at Paris Bistros, etc.

Of course the main reason for the film is to watch Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron dance. The climatic dance sequel is just great. Leslie Caron was a very good and real dancer. Kinda goofy/toothy looking in her younger years.

Oscar Levant is an added bonus to the film. Very funny. Nina Foch uses the word "assiduously" in one scene. That's much too literate and high brow for todays car chase and explosion type movies, but was fascinating to hear in a movie.

Que Magnifique!

This timeless classic is dear to my heart. It is an Oscar winner that, if it was produced today, would still beat the best.

Gene Kelly soars as a struggling American artist working the creative streets of Paris. Things get difficult when, after receiving the patronage and attentions of a rich and attractive heiress, he falls in love with a french shop girl, Lise.

Musical classics are boundless in this Gershwin masterpiece: "Our Love is Here to Stay", "I Got Rhythm", "Nice Work If You Can Get It", "'S Wonderful", "Embraceable You", "(I'll Build a) Stairway to Paradise"

As an American who has lived in Paris, I'm ever charmed by the international cast and the Parisienne atmosphere.

Incredible. See it. Period.

Dancing with a Memory

This movie, though an older one, never ceases to amaze me for the talent Gene Kelly has. Introducing Leslie Carron, the movie is about an American painter (Kelly) who falls for a girl. In the long run, he shouldn't even be with her, but he can't help but love her. Wonderful sets, music by Gershwin costar Oscar Levant does a wonderful job of playing in the movie.

Though musicals are somewhat a style of the past, the emotions it tries to capture can be considered old-timey. Yet it's nice to think of a time where ideals were simple. This is one movie that if you like this genre of film I highly recommend watching at least once to understand how emotions need no words to express themselves.

1950s movies is an American classic

I bought the movie because it was the show my parents went to on their first date. As an 83 year old widower, my father has less and less that he can take great pleasure, so when I saw this movie, I bought it for him. It brought back a lot of good memories for him.Read full review...
