Pleasantly Surprised

The iPad was exactly as described. There was a small dent in the bottom left corner. The deal was so good that I decided to purchase anyway. To my surprise the dent was so small it was not noticeable, especially when placed in the iPad cover. The quality was excellent, like new. All the extras were great and I am so glad I decided to bid on it and won!Read full review...

Where was this all my life?

In my profession, a teacher, iPads are quickly becoming the essential tech device, even for elementary students. I bought my iPad to become fluent before I was expected to integrate it into my instruction. Besides all the traditional uses which replaces any computer (email, internet access, etc.) the iPad has applications (apps) which are infinite in diversity. I can prescriptively use these apps, many of which are free, to load onto the iPad and provide fun, individualized reinforcement to students on any level needed. I will not outgrow this unit, so keeping up with the newer versions isn't a concern, hence why I chose the maximum GB. While I'm still learning and my students are somewhat ahead of me, I'm seeing how my iPad replaces all other tech tools and is just perfect to tote around. I still love my Kindle Fire for reading and doing lots, but iPad helps me survive in my job with continually increasing convenience and ease. Plus on ebay I got a great deal on a NEW one!Read full review...

A great product, but a fairly lackluster upgrade

As an original product, the iPad is a great portable computer device. It lacks a lot of features of a traditional laptop, but for basic tasks like e-mail, web, games, movies, music, and typing a letter, the iPad is very fast and very easy to use. The design and battery life are amazing. Apple recently added the ability for the iPad to work as a standalone device without a computer. My only complaints are the lack of a good file manager, printer support, and a closed software ecosystem that's overly restrictive to developers and the homebrew community. But as a second computer or even a main computer for the technically challenged, the iPad is in a league of its own. Countless competitors over the years and still no one has been able to touch it in nearly every category.

As a sequel to the original iPad, the iPad 2 is very slightly lighter and slimmer (nearly unnoticeable), can use pricey magnetic covers, and includes dual cameras for video chat. The purpose of a rear-facing camera on a device this large is beyond me, but a welcome addition, I suppose. The greatest single new feature of iPad 2 is the speed increase, especially the improvements to the video card. 3D games were often choppy on the original but are now smooth on the iPad 2. Don't expect this to last long, though, once the iPad 3 comes out and developers start ignoring this one.

If you play a lot of 3D games on the iPad and want a boost in framerate, or if you want to use video chat, I would recommend an upgrade. But most people will be satisfied with the original iPad, especially given the high price.

Great value

Nice basic iPad for a good price. Pros include: 64GB memory, excellent like new condition.
Cons: The language was not set to English, so the initial setup was difficult until I was able to reset it. I had to translate words by looking them up online to figure out how to change it. It also uses the old wide sized Apple plug for charging since it is an early model iPad. But still a great value and I am happy with my purchase.Read full review...

Better than expected

I was kind of wary about buying anything advertised as "refurbished", but was pleasantly surprised. It took a while to find anything, but finally found a very small dent on the bottom left corner. It had been wiped clean and setup was quick and easy. This iPad was built in 2011 and lacks a few features of newer models, but for the price, I am very pleased.Read full review...

Excellent value!!!

As a performing musician, I needed the iPad to view charts loaded onto forScore (there is NO sheet music. The iPad functionality is easy to navigate. The display is crisp (you do NOT wanna be unable to read 32nd or 64th notes no matter what you're playing; Berlioz or Shostakovich, Brahms or Bruchner). Anyway, it's also great to have a long-lasting battery, and access to a lot of other apps and also having 64Gb of storage is terrific as well!!!Read full review...

iPad 2 - true desktop, laptop, gaming, DVD replacement

The 1st iPad was as close to a laptop replacement as one could get, finally bringing the web, photo editing, word processing, and gaming Mac-style not only affordably, but in an easy to use fashion.r>
As a daily user of my 1st generation iPad, I've found the The iPad 2 has several new features that make it even better than before. The only drawback is that many older cases and accessories will no longer work. Docks and Sync cables remain the same.

The new iPad is considerably thinner, more durable, and almost a 1/3 lighter in weight.

The iPad 2 also features a new docking accessory, sold separately that allows video mirroring for your computer or video out to your TV via HDMI and audio out.

This allows you to watch download movies, youtube videos, facebook, and even games on your big screen!

- A much faster processor and more RAM. This allows better app multitasking and allows the iPad 2 to have three new features that the 1st generation iPad wasn't capable of ...

1) Facetime video using the two built in cameras. One on the rear of the new iPad, one on the face. This will allow true video conferencing over wifi and 3G.

2) The faster processor has also allowed Apple to release a version of iMovie for the iPad. iMovie for the iPad allows editing of videos right on the iPad. (iMovie is an additional $4.99 from the Apple App Store and does not ship with the iPad 2.)

3) The addition of a Garageband audio creation and editing application. Almost identical to the Mac desktop version but now with touch controls. (Garageband is an additional $4.99 from the Apple App Store and does not ship with the iPad 2.)

- The addition of cameras has also allowed Apple to release Photobooth for the iPad. Photobooth is Apple's real time Photo/Video effects enhancing application. Example: One part of the application allows you to look like you are in funhouse mirrors - stretching your face in various funny ways. Another effect allows you to look like you are in a heat scan and another an x-ray view.

The iPad 2 is also now available on both Verizon CDMA and GSM networks. The GSM version is sold by various retailers in the United States but does not come carrier locked - but AT&T does have specific data plans for the iPad.

If you happen to have the iPad unlimited plan in the United States with AT&T - AT&T said that you are grandfathered in and can continue to use your unlimited plan with your new iPad 2.

The iPad 2 will also come in black and white in sizes of 16 gigabytes (GB) 32 GB 64 GB and in wifi and wifi + 3G versions.

My personal recommendation for the iPad is to save a little money and get just the wifi version and then use other options to connect to the internet if you are near a wifi hotspot - options like jailbreaking your iPhone for a wifi hotspot or paying to wirelessly tether your phone.

iPad 2 is still the best tablet

Let me begin by saying that I think that the iPad is a fantastic device. I am an early adopter that has Windows, Apple, and Android products and enjoys them individually for what they are. This review is comparing the new iPad 2 to the original iPad release to help you decide if you should upgrade or try to find one of the older units on the “cheap”.

The iPad 2 comes in the same memory options as the original – 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB and no external slot is available for memory cards. With all these memory options you can install tons of apps. With the dual-core in effect, you will notice a faster loading of apps, web-pages, and web based apps compared to the original. The original was not “slower”, but in comparison, you can notice a definite speed increase. I believe that web pages and web-based apps are loading faster do to increased wifi capabilities, but I am unable to test this theory.

Like the original, iPad 2 is a slick device, meaning both beautiful and slippery. Looking much like the original, except now it's 10% lighter and 33% thinner. What does this mean? This unit actually becomes even more slippery when moving it around in hand. The original's had some weight behind it, good and bad (though only by a few ounces), was enough to keep it in your hands. iPad 2 is like a is beginning for a warranty for the unit because when hands become sweaty playing games or in heat, this thing could go flying out.

However, the Smart Cover, is an awesome option to combat this, albeit a minimum $40 option, it is NICE! Using magnets embedded in the iPad 2, the Smart Cover clicks into place to protect the iPad screen, adds hardly any weight or bulk, and turns off the unit very “sexily”. When the Smart Cover is closed, the iPad goes to sleep automatically, and then awakens when the cover is opened. The Smart Cover can also be folded to act as a stand for typing or movie watching.

The display is the same, and this is why I feel this isn’t the leap we were expecting. This does not have the Retina Display, and still boast the same specs as the original. I’m not saying that the screen is awful at all, the iPad 2's screen is still as good as the original.
The iPad 2's speaker has been moved from the side to the rear. In my opinion, this may be the only negative thing that has changed with the new release. The cameras on this device actually don’t have iPhone 4's 5 MP HDR camera, iPad 2 has a .69 MP (960 x 720) rear-facing camera and a.33 MP (640 x 480) camera in front. Unfortunately, the pictures are not the best, but in defense of the device, you are probably not taking stills with this thing. The pics tend to be grainy lack pizzazz. The cameras are really for are the ability to video chat using either Apple's FaceTime or Skype.

But if those upgrades aren't important to you, the original iPad at it's newly reduced price is makes for an excellent choice as well.

The iPad 2 includes three major upgrades over the original iPad 1:

•iPad 2 is a third thinner and a few ounces lighter than the original. It also has a slightly smaller surface area – the screen is the same 9.7 inches, but the bezel is smaller which makes it nice when you do hold this.
•There is now front and back cameras, so you can use Apple's FaceTime video chatting.
•Dual core processors (actually two 1 GHz processors on a chip).
Other than that, the new iPad is just a slightly smaller, thinner, faster upgrade to the iPad Original. You could call this an iPad 1.4 per say.

I could live with or without it...

It is great to check email, FB, or entertain the kids. For those who actually know how to type, an external keyboard is a must!!! DO NOT EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO CREATE ANYTHING ON IT!!!! Strictly for viewing information. Easier to use than iPhone (larger buttons ), but less portable. I know I am going against the 'hip crowd', but I could live with or without it. Video and Photos are okay if viewing online, but do not expect to be able to print or enlarge anything.Read full review...

Let’s play spider solitaire!

The iPad looked good, one rough ding on the corner, but screen looks clear and it works great. Something that wasn’t mentioned was that it is at the max for downloading updates. It stopped at 9.—-. That said it can’t download newer games, etc,,,. Overall, though, I feel it was a good purchase for my aunt to use. She’s 70 something, lol, and she’s not computer literate. Read full review...
