Audio_Technic ATR 3350

The Audio Technica ATR 3350, great product for the price. Lets start with the microphone, Small light weight picks up voice well, add the small wind sock and depending on the placement of the microphone you make not hear any wind noise. I have a habit of taking a small piece of gaffers tape to secure the mic cable in place in addition to just using the clip it come with. The clip itself could be more solid, but has no bearing on performance. The on off switch an battery holder work well. The battery is not to difficult to change out. The sound produced by this mic is great. I have read other reviews that say the sound is horrible.I run the mic into a mixer, a Behringer or Alesis then into a sound program by the time the audio files are worked some of the things pointed out regarding sound really didn't matter. Nobody likes to spend hours in post production trying to make a bad sound...sound good. If you are running this mic thru a mixer and your levels are set, hey you can have a great mic at a super price. I do my own work, and for what I do ..is a great mic i can take on location. I have 4 of them.Read full review...

Decent lavalier at an bargain price point!

I used to own two Rode Lavalier Microphones but sold them due to limited use. They were excellent but cost me around $250 each with the connectors.

On a recent project, I needed a lavalier microphone and really tossed up between getting another Rode Lavalier and this. However, I thought this would be a silly investment as I don't use them too often. Instead, I chose to buy one of these for $30 and it has performed surprisingly well.

Of course, not as well as the Rode but considering the $220 price difference, it has held up remarkably. Another thing that is really useful about this mic is the really long cord, which is great for connecting the mic straight to the camera when the talent is further away. The build quality is on the cheaper side (as would be expected) but as long as you don't put it through too much, it should hold up. Another thing that can be a bit annoying is the capsule that holds the battery and the on/off switch (not found on other lavaliers) but again, $30!

Overall I highly recommend this microphone to anyone who needs or wants a lavalier but doesn't have the money for something upscale. Obviously, if you are doing professional work and use these mics on a regular basis, I would recommend looking for something like a Rode, Sennheiser, Countryman, Tram or Sanken. They cannot be beaten for professionals!

Not pro sound, but for the price you get capable good audio from this mic.

Only Four Stars due to battery, it's a great mic for the money. Don't expect miracles, it's not pro equipment, but you can get it to sound pretty good.

Only caveat is the battery has to be charged to get good sound, when the battery wans you definitely get more noise. So if your getting annoying noise...just make sure the battery is fresh before you think it's broken.

I bought this to show my dad who is a teacher doing video productions with his students that he could get cheap lavalier mics without breaking the bank.

There is some noise, as with any lavalier. At this price range most people aren't going to invest in a preamp, or mixer/with preamps. But pumping up the gain of the mic signal turns it into a more powerful line signal which sounds a lot better with a lot less noise.

Cheaper solution, record 10 seconds of ambient silence/background ambient noise and use the free program Audacity to reduce and eliminate all that noise. I have Sound Soap does the same thing, but at a bigger cost. (I've used both)

All in all the bottom line is, you can get great and usable sound from this mic. With a little work from audacity or sound soap...noise free sound.

You get what you pay for, if you have the $$ move up, no $$ its just OK

Having had a costly wireless lapel mic system start faulting on me I thought I would purchase a small, low cost alternative as a back up. The ATR3350 was the one I decided on.

First thoughts were the packaging is cheap, next was how do you handle so much wire! The length of the cable with this mic is more than enough for sure. It will allow you to get a good distance from say your video camera for example to get effective focus and positioning.

The general quality of the lapel mic is OK, its what I would expect for the price, nothing fancy just built to get the job done.

The quality of audio on the mic is not good. Its adequate but if your looking for 'good quality' then make another choice. Possibly up your budget. The pick up on this is fairly good, but again could be better. I have used it now direct into my mixer, direct into a Kodak Zi8 and into my Panasonic Lumix GH2. I have found its temperamental regards self noise. On some occasions it creates buzzing noise other times its ok. The best performance has been using it into my Zi8 for some reason it appears to be better in that video camera?

My final thoughts: Its a just OK lapel mic, if price is your issue then buy it, but be prepared to upgrade later. If you have some more $$'s to spend then for sure improve your purchase and buy the new rode, or other lapel mic between say $75 and $200 you are for sure going to be more happy wit the performance from that level of mic.

Build quality 5/10 Audio quality 4/10 Value for money 4/10
Hope the review is some help.

btw the mic will be tested and demonstrated on my Podcasting Coach Podcast late in March 2013.

Great Inexpensive Lavalier

I'm using this, along with a Zoom H4N recorder, to record off-camera sound for video interviews. I've read nothing but good things about the sound quality of the little Audio-Technica, and it didn't disappoint.

The only important feature this microphone lacks is some sort "low battery" warning light, that could also indicate when the mic is on (it's easy to forget to turn it off, which drains the battery).

I'm sure there are better-built and better-sounding options if money is no object, but for the price this is an excellent deal. I'm considering getting a second one to record two voices at the same time.

Great mic for the price.

This microphone is certainly a bargain. It sure beats using your in camera mic. The sound quality is very good. One of the best things is it comes with a 20 foot cord so you can back off from your subject. One of the sometimes annoying things is that it comes with a 20 foot cord. It can be a little unmanageable. However, you can use a separate recorder or if you are on a budget like me you can use your smart phone with a splitter adapter. (I bought one for $2 on ebay.) Make sure you don't forget to turn it on and off. There is no LED to indicate if it's on or if the battery is low. Overall, I love it for my simple purposes. I am not a pro.
The videos on Before and After Magazine use this mic. That's why I bought. Check it out.

I would recommend this product for semi-professional movie maker.

I purchased this product to film videos with my camcorder as well as make YouTube videos. I like the weight of the product. The microphone clip is made of steel as well as the battery compartment. The sound quality is very good...better than a traditional webcam integrated microphone. The only drawback is the sound playback. I had to take the wav file and raise the decibels in Audacity. Not a big deal...just a minor inconvenience. The price and quality is hard to beat.Read full review...

Low price-High Quality Investment

I absolutely love this product. I'm using it to do some filming of interviews both indoors and outdoors. Even with cars driving by, wind, dogs barking, etc., I am able to hear the interviewee or actor excellently. The chord is long enough that I can be far away with my camera and tripod, and connect it to my mp3 recorder (works both on the BOSS and the Sony recorders). I have absolutely no complaints or issues or further requests of the product. In all honesty, to find this product at the price I bought it for, with the quality it has, is ridiculous. I feel like I stole a high-quality mic. No joke. So if you don't have too much to invest, but need to get rid of all those annoying ambient sounds, this mic does the job.Read full review...

Good mic at cheap price. Check ON/OFF switch after use. Sacrificial lapel.

This is not the greatest lapel microphone, but at the price it does a fine job. I now have two of these.

Very long cable.
Good sound.
Uses hearing aid battery (ALWAYS check you switched off after use).

Gripes:
- The foam wind muff slips off easily (but common on lapel mics)
- I've come to dislike the long cable, but I have upgraded my audio setup which now doesn't require this long unshielded cable.
