Still the best Nook ever made BUT as of July 1 2018 a warning!

Barnes & Noble have officially deliberately stop supporting this particular version even though it's perfectly fine and usable, they're just trying to force people into buying newer versions of the hardware. This Hardware is perfectly fine and it works great and I love it. But for reasons that probably have more to do with greed than Common Sense, Barnes & Noble have cut off all of the loyal users of this particular generation. Why would I buy another ecosystem ever again if they're simply going to arbitrarily stop supporting their devices? And before you say oh it sold it should not be supported anymore, the E Ink screen is perfectly fine and is still extremely great to look at. There's nothing wrong at with this device whatsoever other than Barnes & Noble wants you to buy a new one. No thank you. Their new devices don't even have an SD slot and they severely limit the amount of content that you can sideload. Their new devices are designed to rope you into their ecosystem and pay extremely high prices for their books. I'll say goodbye to you now Barnes & Noble. I tried to support you, I really did. the device itself is absolutely wonderful. The color screen is a nice touch and the Pearl e ink display is absolutely gorgeous. It has plenty of space and it feels very solid in the hand and is very well-constructed. That's why I'm going to miss it very very much now that I can't download any of my books anymore but I'm forever locked into the ones that are loaded on it now, I'm very disappointed. But the device itself is definitely five stars. :)Read full review...

Device made exclusively for the US based users

I am unable to use the device because the debit card I attached to my account is not based in the US, and thus, i cannot complete any purchse and read any of the books i want to get. Why this restriction on the International Users?!Read full review...

Convenient and Reliable

The nook is a great little ebook reader. Crisp, clear images and easy to read. I also have an Amazon Kindle. I purchased the nook because it allows me to read books while I am in or, at times, near a B&N store without purchasing the book - a nice added bonus you can't get with the Kindle. There was one time I was attending a conference in a convention center that had a B&N store located on the 1st and 2nd floors. The conference I attended was held on the 4th floor and I was able to access the B&N store's "WiFi" from the conference hall. During, shall we say, less stimulating sessions of the conference, I accessed B&N and read a couple of short stories. I take the nook with me on all of my trips - just in case! The nook isn't as intuitive to use initially as the Kindle and isn't as quick downloading books (although it does do it quickly), but both are reliable and I have saved tons of space at home by buying electronic versions of several books instead of the bound copies. Buy and enjoy!Read full review...

Nook 3G-WiFi is the best device made for READING

I received my first 3G+ WiFi Reader 10/2010. My Nook has been my constant companion every since. I get great books from B&N and also from my Pubic Library.

Last month I decided to up-grade to the Nook Color. This was a big Mistake because. (1) I used my Nook for reading and with the 3G connection I could shop & download books anywhere** COLOR has only WiFi. (2) The screen was not effected by glare from lights or the sun ** Color gets glare like a computer screen. (3)The battery-life was much longer than the COLOR Nook.
Let me add that I still have my Nook Color. It is great for Apps.- Games - E.Mail-Internet browsing-but it Only has WiFi Connection and its only advantage for book reading is the back-lit screen that works well for reading in the dark.

Nook- a very nice e-book reader

I bought my Nook 3G six weeks ago for a sole purpose of reading e-books while away from home for a longer time. Nook does this job very nice with a single complaint, perhaps the e-ink screen could be a litter faster when changing contents. I also tried reading some pdf magazines with the pictures embedded but the pdf reader installed does it good only half way; when zooming out of default text size the pictures are lost from the screen. Anyway, the manufacturing quality of the device is very high, design is very polished and well thought, with its navigation touch-screen and all, but one thing deserves critics, it's the quality of the navigation buttons. They are just made to hard to press and they really can come handy when the touch-screen gets greasy and unresponsive.
Conclusion, if reading e-books is your priority, go after Nook.

I DO like my NOOK 3G.

I ordered my nook thinking I could read it in the dark, but opps that is the nookcolor. I considered returning it, but started to use it and liked the feel of reading on the nook. I bought a cover with a lite attached, that uses reqular batteries, it works great for reading in the dark. However, I dont really read in the dark as much as I thought I did. And the Nook reads great in sunlight and artificial light. I like the size of the nook, I am currantly reading a large book, but on my nook it fits into my purse. And you can change the font, brightness, etc. The battery lasts for days. Someday maybe I will upgrade to a nookcolor, but for now I really like my nook and plan to keep it.

I plan to check with the local library to see if I can get loaner ebooks from them.

Reading in the bath is no problem, i just slip the nook into a ziplock and read away. My books used to get so wet I could never have borrowed a book and read in the bath.

Call me a germophobe but I like the fact that I am the only one that handles my nook.

The best thing about the nook is the size and the screen, it is easier to read than a paperback.
The worst things are the touch screen is so small (but you get use to it) and no back lite. Although I am not willing to trade battery life for a back lit nook. So for now I am keeping and enjoying the Nook 3g

Love All the FREE BOOKS! Access to Libraries and More!

Love (and bought a Nook for):
- FREE B&N eBooks
- FREE Library eBooks
- Downloads are quick
- Text size can be changed/ enlarged
- Like the 2-games too

Dislike:
- Kids would like more games and 2-player chess game (unit has 1 player chess).
- No stylus... My cold hands cannot always get it to work properly.
- The display is so small that I often lose my screen unintentionally, by hitting the wrong key- a total pain!
- White? Why would you make it white? How about gray to hide the dirt?
- No light or protective case with it- have to buy these extras.
- A little heavy - Lighter in weight would be better so you can hold it longer.
- Nook can only be laid flat -- not rested on it's end. When you set it down on it's end, it rests on the cord (because it plugs into the bottom). How much weight can the cord take before it shorts and needs to be replaced?

Overall, we love the Nook. We are also getting used to the small touch pad. And, we may have to get another Nook since, the whole family wants to read their FREE books at the same time!

*******************************
Update - not 4-stars now... waiting for B&N improvements and will then regrade.

Well, my Nook just crashed! (Had it 1 week+) It rebooted and erased my week-long list of downloaded books from the "MY DOCUMENTS" file. They are all gone and B&N does not save them online either. Ugh!

Also, the (online) B&N Library does not have folder capability as of this 1/2011 date so, all of their books which I did have saved on my Nook, are now scrambled. Frustrating!

Hours of downloading eBooks off the internet are lost and I am NOT happy!!

When working properly, great device but would upgrade to the Nook 2 edition

Well, first I would like to say I love the whole e-book reader in general. Now, with that being said I have had so many problems with the Barnes & Noble Nook its not funny. I purchased my first Nook two months ago and within that time I have had three replacements. The first Nook would freeze up after about four hours of reading it. The second started showing black lines thru the screen to the point where I can not make out any images and now my current device will not connect to any WI-FI connection. So now I am waiting for my 4TH device. The one good thing I can say about Barnes & Nobles is that their customer service is great. I have not had any issues with them as far as replacing the defective devices. But now I wish I want with another brand or up graded to the Nook 2nd edition. However, a side from all the problems I have had the Nook is wonderful, when its working properly.Read full review...

great for ebooks! buggy web browsing. Fun games.

Nice product. Definitely a bit heavy but very easy to use and looks really great. I absolutely love reading on it. Screen is fantastic and does not strain my eyes. Browsing the web on it definitely takes a while but is capable of it. Seems to have a problem with some sites though (such as ebay). For those who don't know.. 3G is only for the BN website. I really like the games though :) Sudoku's especially fun.Read full review...

I like IT!,now I need his football card

I was fortunate enough to happen across this book "nook" at a very good price
Re furbished
As I have carried a paper back book for nearly 50 years
I was not sure that I could adjust to the new technology
The larger font sold me
I have found it fairly simple to operate , intuitive
I felt that I would never get in at a lower price
so
If I didn't like it, I could give it away
I don't think so !
I have not used all the features yet
One thing
I think that they are asking why to much for their book down loads
May be with nook clubs, we could make it work, for us
Of course , I'm still readind from old fashioned books also
LOL

nook color

I don't like that once you turn it off wi-fi goes off immediately so next time when you turn it back on and want to continue where you stop browsing, you can't because you have to get connected first then look for where you stopped. It's very time consuming. Otherwise great ereader, just wish kids books would be a little bit cheaper, it's a little bit too much to charge $14.95 for a book that will be read maybe 3 times. Other cheaper books don't have "read to me" option, another thing that sucks. My kids love Curious George books but I really don't want to read them of enook when is more fun to read real book. The only way I would bought it as ebook if it had "read to me" option but it does not.Read full review...
