If you just want a good sword & sorcery romp that doesn't take itself seriously, but Heavy Metal was too short & didn't have enough plot, and the Evil Dead movies were sorta corny, this is what you want. Bastard - Excellent Short Anime Series

Bastard and 4 evil wizards want to rule the world. Bastard, their leader is defeated (pre-series) and thought dead. Is he? Or is he imprisoned as a different being waiting to be awoken at the right time by the right person. The series begins with the right time and person awakening Bastard. Of course, his 4 friends are used to Bastard's being gone and now they have their own plans for domination. Bastard is no longer part of their plans. Thus, he automatically is their enemy. Some what reluctantly and influenced by the person that awakened him Bastard combats the 4 evil wizards on behave of the populus that had previously imprisoned him. Bastard is conflicted by his emotions, the old good versus evil. No real plot killer, when I say the good in Bastard prevails. Some nice battles between Bastard and the other wizards. TOOK A CHANCE IN PURCHASING THIS "NEW" UPDATED VERSION AS I STILL OWN THE OLDER FIRST GENERATION DVD OF THIS TITLE...I WAS HAPPY TO FIND THAT IT IS A DEFINITE IMPROVEMENT OVER THE OLD VERSION...THE SUBTITLING IS A LOT MORE ACCURATE..THE DUBBING AS WELL...THOUGH I STILL PREFER THE ORIGINAL VOICE (IN JAPANESE) OF "DASHU" AS WELL AS SOME OF THE OTHER CHARACTERS
