BF2:MC = Fun Online!

This review is for the Playstaion 2 version only, so I can't comment about how it is on the XBox. I played Battlefield 2 on the PC at my friends house, and it was AWESOME! I was hoping that BF2:MC would be almost as good for the PS2. Unfortunately, it's not as good as the PC version (most games ported from the PC to a console aren't). I mainly buy games for the online play. You can find reviews in game magazines and websites that focus on the single player campaign, but almost no info about the important online play. Here's a list of the online PROs & Cons:
CON:
...Doesn't measure up to the PC version. PC hosts up to 150 players at a time, PS2 only handles 24 (SOCOM3 & Delta Force: Black Hawk Down each can handle 32, so why can't BF2?
... Very limited game types available. Only has Capture the Flag and Conquest. Plus, it is only respawn, so people just run in guns a blazin' without using tactics because they know they will come back to life in about 15 seconds.
... Can't host games, so you can't keep team killing A$$holes from joining your game.
...Some maps end up with 80% of the players sniping, so it becomes boring fast.
...The included instruction manual doesn't cover very much but the very basics. It leaves out instructions on how to use the parachute, fly a helicopter, use the GPS, use the artillery strike, pick up dicarded equipment, etc...
PROs:
...Almost no lag/frame rate shudder no matter how many people are fragging each other in a confined space (unlike SOCOM3 which can lag pretty bad when there is lots of action in a small space).
...When you find a good game, the back-and-forth action can be a lot of fun.
...Using tanks, HUMMVEs,"jeeps",helicopters, parachutes, artillery and mortar strikes is great.
...BF2 is very easy to learn, and A LOT less imposing to log on and play when compared to any of the SOCOM games.
RATING: I give BF2:MC a 4 out of 5 for the online play. If you want more of a challenge online, buy a SOCOM game or Splinter Cell game. If you want an easy to learn and play game with lots of other people online at once, buy Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. You won't be disappointed.

Amazing!+Full of action & intense.-Fixed control scheme

I have yet to play this game online, but single player has incredibly fun action. This is mostly because of the freedom to swap characters instantly to get a better shot at the enemy or just go where the action is, control vehicles, etc. In fact you have to swap a lot to win the missions in single player mode to defeat the enemy. The effect when you swap never gets old. You ZOOM across to the highlighted character and continue destroying the enemy under the control of a different soldier on the battlefield. This really gives you the feeling you are in control of an army rather than the typical lone gunman shooter in a crowd of AI at war. It's truly exciting and one of the best action shooters I've played. Before you buy it however you should be familiar with the default control scheme that the PlayStation 2 uses for most (if not all) of it's shooters, because this game won't let you change the analog stick control scheme at all...ouch! The left analog stick controls the strafe and foward/backward movement and the right stick looks/aims. That set up works fine for me, but if you like your aiming/moving controls another way your out of luck. That's a limitation worth losing a point over. So this is a great game that brings an enormous action-packed freedom to the battlfied... but limits the gamer where it hurts... after all it's only the controls! Thanks EA we know you mean well. This game is a keeper!Read full review...

Battlefield+improved singleplayer+PS2=1 awesome game

This is an awesome game! I didn't have a good enough computer to play the original Battlefield 2 so BF2 on console is awesome. EA improved the single player by adding objectives and a point to the missions. Some of the missions can be challenging but very rewarding. The guns are cool. EA added a new feature called hot-swapping. It is a thing you can do to take over any allied body that you have a clear shot of. So if your running low on health just zoom into another body. The missions are based on completing objectives BUT it still carries some battlefield traits. Vehicles are awesome. No planes because the maps are too small. I would recommend getting a network adapter because Battlefield is known for its great online. The controls are also easy to use. All the reviews say that this game blows away the competition. Excellent online play but poor single player campaign.

Battlefield 2:MC offers two very distinct types of gameplay: single-player offline and online multiplayer.

The single-player campaign component comes across as very weak and the missions are very structured. There is very little room to deviate from the planned path, although the entire levels are wide open. Enemy AI ranges from insanely difficult to incredibly easy... sometimes both found on the same mission. This leads to a frustrating experience. To the game's credit, there are dozens of medals and ranks you can earn by playing well. You can replay old levels anytime, ignoring objectives and going for medals/extras. This gives the game some good replayability if you can stomach the weak gameplay setup.

Online, this game is fantastic. Like the solo campaign, online keeps record of your stats and achievements. If it is you penchant, you can go for online-only medals and keep your stats high enough to advance through the ranks all the way to 5-star general.
Two modes can be played online. CTF (capture the flag) and Conquest. CTF is very fast-paced and reflexive. Conquest gives you much more room to work with and allows for so much more teamwork.
Despite a few exploitable glitches and a tendency for servers to play the same handful of maps (although there are many different maps and they all play well), BF2:MC is an engrossing and thoroughly enjoyable online experience.

The graphics and sound are perfect for online play. Neither detracts or distracts from the immersive gameplay, yet you can appreciate them.

If you are looking for an online FPS, you can do no wrong with BF2:MC.
As a strictly offline game, there are better choices.

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (Playstation 2)

This product is one of the greatest games for PS2's online capability. The graphics are outstanding, the online missions are fun, intense, and always great to play; and its voice communication in-game (multiplayer) is outstanding.

Although having a multiplayer game that is of the highest quality, BF2:MC for PS2 lacks in the single player range. I personally was able to beat the single player game in 2 days...that was a dissappointment.

All in all, if you have, or plan to set up your PS2 for online play, I highly suggest buying this game, as its online feature is excellant; but, if you do not plan to/don't have online capabilities, then this game may not be for you, as (how I mentioned) the non-online portion of this game lacks.

Armed Forces refuse to buy vehicles

Ok folks, this game would be much better if they could fix the physics in the game. These are a few the the things if fixed would make the game much better. 1. A 55 gallon oil barrel will not stop a 60 ton Abrams tank dead in its tracks, unless it was full of explosives. 2. A hand grenade will not do squat to an Abrams tank and very little to a Bradley. 3. A 120mm HEIT round at point blank range cannot be stopped by a hand railing and not kill the guy standing at the railing. 4. A c4 charge will not do a thing to a tank unless it is shape charged ( we had to use 40 lb shape charges on T-55's and up) 5. A 120mm HEIT round, just one, would blow any helicopter out of the air, no matter where it hit it. 6. Anti-tank mines cant just be tossed out, they have to be set. 7. A 40mm grenade from an M203 will not damage an Abrams tank. 8. the blast radius of a HE round is much greater than portrayed in the game. Also the server for this game is not well maintained. Lag problems are always an issue and it takes some patience to get into a room because only a couple of games list and usually the number of people in the room display is wrong.
The offline play has some of the same issues but if you can live with these issues the game as some entertainment value

The best for online on PS2

Reviewer's age: 27

Engage in online combat with up to 24 players online! It has conquest maps and capture the flag. It is slightly modern, but nothing futuristic. You will find yourself in a world where you can free-roam anywhere. It has vehicles like hummers, tanks, and choppers. Several vehicles can hold multiple people. Hide in buildings, parachute from ledges, swim in the rivers, or crouch in a trench. Pick a character class from assualt, sniping, engineer, etc. Hear all the action on the headset if you have one, or shout orders to your team-mates. Make friends, or join clans. When you die, you simply respawn back at any base that your team currently holds. This game also has a built in voting system for the players to vote people out. This is good if you get a team killer. The better that you get with the game, the higher rank you will achieve. You must achieve so many points per hour, and medals to advance ranks. This game has the option for rank restriction. This way if you choose a rank resticted map you can play with people like yourself. ie. a Master Seargant wont have to play with 3 star generals, nor a noob. This game has so much potential.

This game is the best money I have ever spent for the PS2. This game is great with a headset and logitech wireless controller. My review for this game is a purely online multiplayer experience, I don't play single player offline games. The graphics are good for PS2. They look even better on the PS3 because of the upscaling.

This game is fairly easy once you learn the controls. You will soon find it easier after you learn all of the maps. Most people play Backstab and Bridge too Far. Those you will need to learn first, because they're called the noob maps.

What would I like to see in the future for this game? I'd like to see the game able to splitscreen and take 2 players online. You can currently only take one player per PS2 online. I'd like to see these online games have some sort of update and support. Why can't they get on their server and change a few things from time to time for us? Like oneday host a new map online, or change a few items. I feel these games need to be able to evolve online. I'd like to see a map where you control ships. Like one ship has 2-3 flags, if your team gets them all, then you can control the ship to manuever, etc.

classic PS2 shooter

BF2 is one of the best console FPS off all time. While the graphics are outdated by today's standards, the gameplay, especially the online multiplayer, is awesome. The single player campaign is fun and a good way to get used to the controls and improve your skills but the meat of the game is online. Variety in vehicles, strategy in picking the right kit for the right situation, conquest mode, flexibiiy in selecting servers and sides in game, and the different map types make the game super addictive. Even the online background music is nice. As of summer 2009 there are still a lot of people playing BF2 online. There are a few downsides to playing online - you'll encounter your fair share of team killers, cheaters, nowadays it seems like the only maps being played are Backstab, Dammage, Bridge Too Far, and did I mention Backstab?! It's a real shame because some of the other maps are great but the current players vote for the same map every time. In spite of all that, the game is still great. Long story short, if you're on a PS2 and like shooters this is a no brainer. I have a PS3 and even go back online from time to time for old time's sake. :)Read full review...

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (PS2)

Battlefield 2: Modern Combat for PS2 is one great FPS. The game has excellent graphics and gameplay. Has fun online play and Single Player. 5 Different gun kits to choose from; Assault,Special Ops,Sniper,Engineer, and Support as well as 4 Teams including The U.S,Chinese,British, and Arabian Forces. The thing that I believe is the funnest is the online play. There is a wide variety of maps that can be played over and over for hours of fun. You also have the ability to drive an even wider range of battle vehicles such as Tanks,Boats,Cars, and Trucks to name only a few. Overall this is a really fun PS2 FPS that is all-round a fun and enjoyable game.Read full review...

Great condition and quality!

I am very happy with the delivery and product! I'm not one to keen on using Ebay for things like this. Scratches and condition was a fear of mine, but I could see no problems at all no scratches, marks or anything! Played like a charm,Read full review...
