What a way to end the decade!

By the end of the decade of the 60s, the rock music scene had grown by leaps and bounds. In this volume of the Rhino CD "Billboard Top Rock & Roll Hits", the songs from 1969 were a truly eclectic mixture of varied musical styles that appealed to a wide audience. The 5th Dimension triumphed at the Grammy with "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In"; Tommy Roe had a catchy pop number with "Dizzy"; the number one song of the year 1969 was "Sugar, Sugar", performed by the non-human animated group The Archies; Tommy James and the Shondells had two of the year's most memorable songs with "Crimson And Clover" and "Crystal Blue Persuasion", which were perfect for the era; the studio group Steam had one of the catchiest sing-alongs with "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye"; a favorite R&B song was "Take A Letter, Maria" by R.B. Greaves; the Foundations were also on the air with "Build Me Up Buttercup"; British group the Zombies landed their final song "Time Of The Zombies" into the pop charts; "Good Morning Starshine" by Oliver was a stand-out number from the Broadway musical "Hair".
