Fair deal

My initial complaint was with the screen until I discovered that the protective layer was still applied. The other problem was in the specs where the 32gig choice came with a microSD slot. However, after using the unit for several weeks I was overall satisfied with both it and the price I paid.Read full review...

Dont buy this table no matter how cheap

I am disappointed to learn that Blackberry will end all support for the tablet and all its products by the end of the year/2019. No way to upgrade browser or any of the preloaded APPS. I'm disappointed that I can't upgrade the browser(s). Plus on my snail wifi, where do I begin. This was a great product back in the day, I purchased it thinking I'd have a better experience oh well I only paid $56 bucks for it. May be it will perform better on a different wifi...Read full review...

Awesome Tablet which would be excellent with improved and/or android apps.

I had a Kindle Fire which was nice, but I found that this display & format better & the ablity to create & edit office files is better. My biggest dislike is the quality of the apps and lack there of. The apps on the Kindle & my Epic phone are plentiful & quality apps even the free ones. The Blackberry PlayBook 32g has good size/weight, good battery life, good value for the money if you don't have much use for apps, useable apps because 50% of the apps displayed in the search are unavailable. I still will recommend the BlackBerry PlayBook 32GB, Wi-Fi, 7in to a friend in hopes that an update is coming soon with android apps.Read full review...

(Pros: Awesome OS experience) (Cons: Small app market and subtle quirks)

The reason I bought this tablet was because I wanted to experiment with the QNX operating system and I kid you not it is awesome! Apps are slow to load at the first go, but from then on onwards it blazes along on its dual-core 1Ghz processor. The file management system is a god send and a definite improvement over the Android tablets and iPads I have used. I love the size of the thing and if things go well it might just replace my MacBook Pro as my class gadget. However, the Playbook isn't as user friendly as it may seem with subtle quirks like its inability to charge when turned off and the fact that the BlackBerry App World is lagging heavily behind the competition in terms of number may put you off. But the fluidity of the OS, the ingenius usage of the bezels to enhance the users experience and the solid media playback capabilities means this beautiful product is going to stay close to my heart.Read full review...

Great value for the money

The reason that I bought this tablet is to have a mobile device that allow me to communicate with my family by Skype,I couldn't download the app, having hard time with that,I'm very disappointed. The app store has to be more develop.I have another tablet and the app was so easy to install. But I have to say that the size, weight and price are very reasonable. If you use it for browsing the Internet and email it's ok.Read full review...

Its worth the money...pretty darn good.

Bought before I got my IPad 4 navigating takes a little to get used to. I was able to install kindle app with some work. Since it has Kindle it has every thing I could want. It has a camera though the pics are a little grainy looking. Its very good for the price. I use it if I don't want a bulky 10 inch tablet. I recently ordered a Blackberry phone so I can bridge it free...You don't get that with Ipad. Overall its a good deal. If you don't have 500 bucks this is the next good thing.Read full review...

BBPhone users are best for this Playbook

It looks like I may have made a mistake in getting one of these. The features are great if you have a Blackberry Phone along with it. At this time I am not going to get one, so hopefully I will be able to sell it. I do miss my BBPhone and maybe someday will be able to get one. A business person may benefit more to having this combo.
My thoughts are maybe a Samsung would have been better for me at this time. I would recommend this product to only BBP users.
My concern with this one is that I cannot get wifi at other places besides my home. I have asked the experts and along with my son to ne avail.

Best tablet! I have no regrets!

I freaking love this thing! Even though it's much heavier than the ipad mini it's a better tablet. It's resolution is beautiful, typing on the keyboard is easy and fast. Yes it has much fewer apps than android but I don't mind. Once you pair it up with a blackberry phone it really comes to life. You can use your bb phone as a mouse and keyboard. You can connect your phones carrier to your tablet to use Internet when Wifi is not available. Open many apps without having to close one first, if paired with your bb phone it let's you know when you have an incoming call or text. You can text back from the tablet too. I have no regrets so far, I got it for a great price! I will admit I was reluctant to purchase it be because of the whole "open box/damage box" but once I got it I checked it thoroughly for Scratches and chips. It had not one single scratch but it had chipped around the speaker. I mean it's not noticeable unless you take a magnifying glass lol so overall I would recommend it unless you want a million apps this tablet isn't for you.Read full review...

Well-built, perfectly sized tablet, but Inferior Software Platform!!

I bought this during CyberMonday at a steal at $249 + tax and initially I loved this device. The size is actually perfect compared to other ~10" devices as you can basically add this Playbook to your RIM and just the fact that the Bridge allows you to "tether" the tablet with a Blackberry phone is truly amazing...

HOWEVER...

Too many stabiity issues with this device. I could barely take advantage of the dual processor that actually works inferior to my single core generic 1Ghz processor. I could only attributed to RIM software versus something like Android or something. Although I've read in February this device would make more sense with its transition into Android platform, it was a bit too little too late on my part.

With many quad-cores coming to the market, I had to return this well-built device with an inferior Software platform. However, I have a feeling when it transitions into Android, it will be an unbelievable device, if that makes any difference!!!

If you actually try each tablet out, I think you'll love the Blackberry!

The size, the quality, the screen. Blackberry really hit the nail on head with this tablet. If you're looking for little bird games and silly apps, this doesn't have them (yet, until 2012 when they release their free update with the 2.0 version that ports android apps) however the speed, and the ability to actually have more than one app running at the same time CAN NOT be matched.

I have purchased the blackberry brand "journal case" and I take it everywhere now. It's smaller size makes it easy and less nerdy to carry versus an iPad (and I have used one before). I use my cell as a hot spot when I'm on the road, then use it for web and checking my companies orders. I also am able to add PDFs and PICs and show them to my clients on job sites with a pro touch.

I also enjoy the fact I can use this as a hard drive, and I can access all my files and folders from within windows. AND it supports flash, I don't feel restricted by someone.

This is a professionals tablet!

Fantastic hardware. Operating System is a beast! More apps on the way.

Okay, first things first. The only reason I'm not rating this a 5 out of 5 is because of the limited app selection and the still missing native email, calendar, and contacts support.

EDIT 2017 .... Blackberry... what can I say. I've given up on them. They screw over their users, make promises and don't deliver, never again.

Regarding the email, calendar, and contacts support, it's the universal belief and understanding that this will be coming by the end of the summer (2011). This NEEDS to happen or RIM is in trouble. For now, one can STILL access his email and (google) calendar in the playbook's web browser (which is pretty awesome btw).

Regarding the app selection. At the moment, it's REALLY not that bad.

GAMES: There are some really great ones like Need For Speed, Gravitee Wars (AWESOME), DoodleBlast, A Zombie Stole My Toaster, Automaton 2015, PhysiCat, and plenty more. No Angry Birds, but I'm sure it will come. Some games I have on my android phone that aren't on the playbook include, LineUp, Unblock Me, Enjoy Sudoku, Super Tumble, and GeoQuiz.

SOCIAL APPS: An official Facebook app comes installed, there are a few twitter apps (blaq, Blackbird-free, and Tweedless-free), no Linked In app which is a huge bummer for me. Still missing skype which seems to be a HUGE MEGA ISSUE for many, but I don't see the fascination with it, ... Regarding Linked In, there's this thing called a web browser. I use it.

NEWS: Fantastic. 3 free apps will give you everything you need: the official RIM news app, GeeReader, and News360. There are others, but these are my favorites.

MEDIA: Comes with Slacker, which is okay, but I prefer Pandora (nope, not available yet). Good music player, and music store. Never heard of 7 digital before, but they're great. YouTube app. GREAT for viewing. Missing tons of functions. Cannot access your account, favorites, subscriptions. Cannot share to facebook, twitter. The YouTube app was made by RIM and my thoughts are that because YouTube is a google thing, google only wants the official app to have that functionality. So, until google makes an official app there won't be any favoriting, and sharing. At least not through the app. Maybe on the Browser? But, again, it is a very nicely made app and fun to use. Photo app, great. Camera, great. Video player is what you'd expect.

NOTABLE ABSENCES: Where the H*ll is my Netflix?! Good luck with Netflix and Hulu. It's not available at the moment. Coming in the near future? My conjecture is yes. Skype is missing (boo hoo hoo). There IS some video chat application, but I haven't tried it out. The official Twitter and Linked In apps are MIA. Various google apps such as Maps are missing. GeeReader syncs with Google Reader and is fantastic. Bing maps is nice and works fine for me as a substitute for Maps. There is a paid Magellan Compass app that uses Google Maps and LOOKS to be quite good. Where the F is Pandora?! Not available, and when I attempt to use it in the browser, it doesn't work. Tune In Radio is also missing! WTF I love Tune In Radio. Luckily this DOES work online. I want the app but this will do in the meantime. Kindle: nope. Hopefully it will come. Comes with Kobo which is NOT compatible with your kindle books.

Regarding these shortcomings. This is a new operating system (QNX based) and the playbook is only about 2 months old. There are no QNX phones yet. When the QNX phones come, the apps will come. Patience.

Running out of room.

Hardware and OS. FANTASTIC IN EVERY WAY. Dual core processor, beautiful screen, brilliant user interface

First and best professional grade tablet

PROS: Great hardware, BB Bridge, built in cameras are awesome, it really is professional work enabled
CONS: Experimental OS is not totally polished. Lack of apps. Lack of recognition. People think it’s a small iPad

Some say the playbook is just an iPad with a blackberry logo.
Please, don’t RIM judge because they want some tablet money as well. They have created one of the best tablets around, with an OS that can only get better and top notch hardware that won’t be outdated in a long time. 1GB of RAM, dual core processor and between 16 and 64 GB of HDD storage make for an attractive selection in what a consumer most sees when selecting one of these devices. Software is no bad either, built in Documents 2 go for Free (a sort of port of the MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel products specifically for blackberries), Adobe reader/flash, Facebook dedicated app and other apps that work with the all new QNX OS come already installed. And to test the playbook’s power right away, there is Need For Speed and Tetris in full HD ready for use.
My personal experience with the playbook has been awesome. The tablet can use internet either by Wi-Fi or streaming from my phone and works pretty well. Recently, I washed a streamed soccer match on YouTube live and I lost signal very few times, so that proves the browser and processor and totally reliable. I’ve also started to use this tablet for school, and as it is compatible with Bluetooth accessories, it is now my laptop of choice. One feature that has become extremely useful of BlackBerry bridge, it can stream all my phone’s data and files (except media files for now) and I can write over it straight to my phone. The playbook has no space wasted! So, what I do for now is fill my Plabook’s space with media and my phone with just a few music to use as an MP3 player and the rest of space is to use as a drive for my documents made in Documents 2 Go.
Media is very well supported, it plays the most common files that are used. My only complaint is that you cannot search within a playlist in the music, it will search in all the music and then continue playing using all the music. Videos work awesome, and the portability makes for a nice entertainment during car travel or a comfortable flight.
Apps are what most people are complaining, but for now there are enough to please everybody. Soon enough, it will be able to use Android apps along with the original Playbook exclusive, so the complaints will be diminished a bit.
Anyway, this tablet is a must have if you have a blackberry, it will enhance your experience. If you don’t own a blackberry, don’t worry, the tablet is very useful for all your needs.
