Love the phone, great features, fast, very good battery life and excellent screen quality

Went from Blackberry to Samsung and now finally back to this Blackberry. Love the fact that it runs android, which made my life very easy when transferring my contents from my old Samsung S4 to this one.
The phone is pretty fast, smooth and very easy to manage with Blackberry Hub, which gathers all your email, text, call, messenger, whatsapp and facebook notifications in one place.
The sound is simply amazing, great bass and surround effect even while using bluetooth.
The battery life is also very good. I use it a lot, keep getting too many calls and messages a day and it still manages to keep its charge for close to 2 days.
The only minor con for me was the touch was not as smooth and sensitive as my Samsung, but it is not too bad. The keypad is a great plus for those with small fingers, but not as helpful if you have big fingers.
Overall I would say it is a great buy and definitely worth it.

The Blackberry PRIV, Is A Decent Phone, With A Whole Lot Of Issues!

Not really all that great of a phone. The phone heats up constantly. The memory card slot , often fails. The phone can not charge, while you are using it. You have to let the phone charge, by not using it, at all. The SIM and Memory card slots, are difficult to access and prone to breaking. With voice calls, the person on the other end, can not hear your at first. It takes a second or two, for them to hear you. It is very difficult to add contacts. The options that are supposed to let you add contacts, don't work, in the way that they should. You can't automatically download files to the memory card. You have to change settings and download apps, in order to transfer the content from the phones Internal memory, to the SD Card. The Spell-Check doesn't work like it does on other phones. You will see all of the possible spellings on the keyboard, but you can't click them and have the word typed in. Plus, with this problem, you have to Back-Space, in order to correctly add the words that you really wanted. It has no removable battery. It has an extremely annoying Nanny-Like function, where it will keep changing your curse words and other spellings of words, into "SAFE" words. Also, the Mini-USB port is really susceptible to breaking. I bought this phone, because it has a Hard-Where keyboard, a lot of Internal memory, it is running the most current version of Android and it is still able to keep upgrading the OS, decent battery life, support for up to to 2 TB's of SD Card memory, large screen, ect. I know some of these issues are caused by Android, but this is actually Blackberry's version of the AndroidOS, so they could have customized it better. If you can buy it for around $150 to $200, then it could possibly be worth it to you. But not $700+. I really wanted to love this phone, but I dont see it lasting for anymore then a year. The Blackberry PRIV, is just a poorly designed phone. I could go on, but I imagine that you get the point. A somewhat decent phone, with A LOT of issues!Read full review...

Reliability and security of BB but the fun features of Android

Finally went back to BB with a keyboard after having many without (with the last one being the Z10). This phone has the reliability and security of it being a BB, but with the capacity of running Android and getting to download all the fun apps...that unfortunately BB has been left out of most of the time. The size is a bit bigger than I'm used to, and the weight is a bit on the heavy side, but it feels like a very well made and solid phone. The battery takes a bit to charge (maybe I'm a bit on the impatient side?!). I bought the slide case to go with it, and everything works perfectly together. It's a very good looking phone, and received many compliments on it : ) I'm very happy with this purchase and will keep this phone for quite some time...cheers to BB to finally making a fully functional and integrated phone for all to use!

Okay...I'm adding to my original review: I had to change it from 5 to 4 stars because of the charging. It's not me...it's super S-L-O-W!!! Seems like I have to have to leave it plugged in and charging when I'm not using it because it takes HOURS to charge!!!! Just giving you "all" a heads up...that part of the phone is disappointing : (

PRIV impressions

I would have to keep using this for a while to really have any insight. For now the things I'm getting used to: 1) the size is like a Galaxy note or something, a huge leap from my old Blackberry, I had to buy a new tool pouch just to fit it when I'm at work; 2) Android is pretty annoying, like Windows it always needs your attention for some notification or update, but I'm trying to take a more active role in raising my phones, I guess; 3) the one thing they really messed up in my mind is they half-assed the phys keyboard! Why does anybody buy a Blackberry? Obviously not for the OS in this case! But now when my fingers brush across the keys searching for the next letter because I'm trying to type one-handed, it moves the cursor around without my intention, and I've gotta go back to the touchscreen to re-position, and inserting the cursor right where you want it is tricky with this OS, like I guess you need to swipe the keyboard to finely position it, but I think the whole arrangement defeats the purpose, like I don't want the buttons to do anything unless I "click". Tragic. But what a steal, this was a $700 phone just a few months ago. Vendor was great. Read full review...

The jury is still out

This Blackberry is very unlike the user friendly Q10 as it is not compatible with the Blackberry desktop software used to back up phone contents. The calendar function does not store completed appointments resulting in no tracking history being stored, Battery life appears to decline at about 4-5% per hour and compared to the Q10 seems relatively slow to recharge. Although font sizes can be changed in the settings, the "desktop" screen fonts are still quite small. I admit that I haven't fine tuned the instrument yet and I'm hoping to reduce the power draw of the many pre-loaded apps. It will take a while to learn the Android ways... On the plus side - Blackberry Customer support is really exceptional.Read full review...

Particular phone for particular people (ie, slide-out keyboard fans)

I love this phone!! This is why:

-Slide out keyboard! With keys that light up and you can change the color of the light with certain keyboard programs.
-Big screen that is curved at the edges with a quality display
-Thin so that it feels like I'm holding a web page in my hands
-Fast (I rarely wait for things to load)
-Haven't had an issue with space yet
-The edge Blackberry hub is useful
-Some nice design components: the back of the phone is made of a rubbery, nice feeling material, and the edge display when it is charging looks super cool.
-I switched from iPhone to Android and so far, LOVE Android. Primarily, I like having more control.

What I don't like:

-It seems to heat up pretty easily if you're running certain programs, then has issues with freezing up
-The MMS issue: this is well known, idk why Blackberry hasn't fixed it yet. But there are problems receiving MMS and group texts. This can be "fixed" by using the text program Textra. But still unacceptable by Blackberry that there is no fix yet.
-Battery runs out quickly out of the box. If you use programs like IFTTT to turn off wifi when you're out and don't keep the screen on super bright, etc. it will last much longer. If you've got the screen on constantly, it will die fast.
-Camera is not as good as iPhone (but decent)
-Comes with a lot of software that I don't want or use. Still haven't run out of space though so it's more of an annoyance than a major problem.
-You can find it here for cheaper than retail, but the retail price is very expensive given it's got the MMS issue, an average battery, and inferior camera.

Basically, you are paying for this phone's badass slide-out keyboard and nice looking design and screen. I am totally happy with that and I still prefer it to my old iPhone. If you don't care about camera, willing to set up stuff yourself to get it running smoothly, this is a great phone.

Not bad for the only Android phone with a physical keyboard.

Last phone was an LG G4 that was terrible after Marshmallow update. Saw this and wanted to have a physical keyboard again. So far, it's a decent phone. Fast enough. Expandable storage. Battery life is acceptable, but not as much as one would expect with 3000+ mAh. Unlock code worked, but can't update without an AT&T SIM card. Buy an AT&T GO prepaid sim and it will work to get you updates. Phone is bigger and heavier than I'd like, but big screens are the trend now, so hard to avoid it. Personally, I'd love to go back to the HTC Dash / ChaCha size phone or even original iPhone. Screen is AMOLED vibrant as expected. Blackberry hasn't crippled the phone with bloatware and their apps work well, especially Hub. Camera is just OK, but serviceable. I'm reasonably satisfied and this is my first BlackBerry.Read full review...

Better than you think.

The PRIV is a much maligned phone that is actually very clever.

First, the phone is heavier than it looks and has a huge battery. The screen is beautiful. For comparison, I also have an S7 Edge and a few other phones and the PRIV goes toe to toe with all of them. The slider mechanism is very sturdy and the matte finish on the back gives just the right amount of grip. It is a durable phone.

Sound is clear through the earpiece and the front facing speaker. A front facing speaker is a real luxury these days.

The OS has bee. Updated to marshmallow and that greatly improved the battery life.

Reception is excellent. Really.

The physical keyboard has some often overlooked benefits. First, it gives you a very large screen to look at while typing. It has flow. Every key can be programmed to do something. It is a TouchPad.

The dtek suite is more than meets the eye. It really does make the phone safer both by alerting you to problems and checking the kernel to be sure nothing has changed it.

Well I can't scroll here... the AMOLED screen is hard to see in the daylight. The keyboard doesn't have the kind of travel I am used to with other BlackBerry phones. It can get slow. It can get warm.

The 808 system in a chip is not the best but is adequate for everything except hard core gaming. Battery life with the chip is all day for light users. But heavy users will have to recharge. Here is the interesting part: the BlackBerry charges faster than my S7 Edge. Significantly faster.

Good phone. If it gets Nougat I'm going to use it a lot.

What don't I like? The AMOLED screen is hard to see in full daylight.

keyboard with android

The phone is comparable to a Samsung note5 powerful with no lag can’t take battery out and has a slot for sd card on top. Screen has a clean display and gaming is fine All I play is clash royal sooo can’t really say anything bad, just that it gets hot. Like super-hot, only when I play games but all that heat is condensed to the top where it’s metal might be the built in heat sink. Battery seems to drain fast but so did my Samsung edge; I’m on it all the time and playing clash royal that may have a lot to do with it, stand by wise it’s like every other phone lil drain. I enjoy the keyboard I have fat fingers and the screen keyboard on any phone always has me pressing the wrong key where in this case I feel the key I want to press like reading in Braille but if you don't slide up it has a screen keyboard as well oh and I love the spell check it gives you options rather then just replacing with a word. The camera is good. I always had a problem with my note edge auto adjusting, but this one gives me a crisp picture. But really the star here is the keyboard. Can’t go wrong if you’re like me and cant text on flat surfaced screen overall I enjoy the phone it’s an android with a big screen and a keyboard. How can that be bad?Read full review...

A Blackberry with Android!! Yep

Managed to get this priv and have had for almost 2 months... So Far the only major problem I have is the Bluetooth Connections, they come in and out too frequently, but when still I can here and the other end can hear clearly (odd). Also so very choppy. The device arrived as expected from the documentation from the ad. So I replaced the glass protection screen with a brand new one and so far so good. The book cover was fine but prefer the framed cover. So far so good.Read full review...
