Least bad phablet available in 2016/17 - for keyboard adicts

As this is the only phablet on the market with a sliding keyboard, it is an easy win in it's class, with no competition...

That said it fells surprisingly sturdy despite it's thin waist for a slider.

They are even quick to deliver security patches.

The only real issue is the lack of a fingerprint scanner.

I have written a lengthy review elsewhere, so will not repeat it here

Odd to be BACK on BlackBerry

I thought I had owned my last BlackBerry. The $300 price of the PRIV was too good to pass up. And the big battery suggested long usage. The display is wonderful and the phone is fast. It updated Over The Air to Marshmallow after a week or so with no problems. While it came with a SIM unlock code (that worked fine the first time) it does have a locked bootloader and is running an AT&T ROM. It'd been a while since I've used a carrier ROM and it came with its share of bloatware. I just disabled all of the AT&T software and that hasn't been a problem.

The big screen is hard on the battery and while I can go all day on the battery I haven't observed the expected looooong battery life.

I haven't used the physical keyboard as I love the Google Keyboard. They keyboard makes it heavier than I expected.

It has been getting Android security updates about a month later than my Nexus 5 does.

I like it.

Brilliant Excellent Classic Superfast

What is great discovery! Great multi-tasking, excellent screen resolution. The touch sensitive physical keyboard is so wonderful giving you uninterrupted screen, perfect when browsing the Internet, a document or social media. The virtual keyboard is even quicker when it comes to messaging. I guarantee it's the quickest of all available.
The camera is phenomenal!
The most important bit is the phone's security credentials.
What a comeback, Blackberry!

Best BlackBerry/Android Phone ever!

I have owned many smartphones, iPhone 4, HTC Evo 4G, Windows Phone, Samsung Galaxy, BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry Classic and now the BlackBerry PRIV and it is hands down the best phone I've ever owned. I am a big BlackBerry fan and used the Classic but until this purchase. The screen is absolutely gorgeous and has a large 5.4 inch display with the curve glass. The Snapdragon processor on the device is fast and delivers a quality experience. The onscreen keyboard is the best I've ever used on a smartphone and the physical keyboard although far from BlackBerry's best it is certainly decent. I find myself being split about 50/50 between using the screen and physical keyboard. I actually enjoy using the keyboard as a track mouse as you can swipe it to view content without having to tap the screen. Texting and writing emails is amazing on the PRIV with predictive text, best in the industry.

The BlackBerry HUB is a huge asset and I love having all my information in one spot without having to go and open various different apps. Security on the device thanks to the DTEK software offers great security as is expected from BlackBerry. It was a great decision to go with the Android OS with the PRIV as it offers a much larger ecosystem of apps. I loved BB10 on the Classic but the amount of app support kept dwindling, I ended up having to use the browser to get on Facebook since they dropped support for the BB10 OS a couple of months ago.

No matter what the naysayers say I believe that this is the best mobile device in the market. It may be a year old already but BlackBerry products have an incredible track record of having awesome quality built and product longevity. I can see this being my daily driver for the foreseeable future. It's a shame BlackBerry will no longer do in house devices, I would have loved to see a successor to the PRIV. But for now this is the best BlackBerry device ever built. Buy one and enjoy it while you still can.

Loving my PRIV!

The slide out keyboard has made my life so much easier. I was worried this phone would be too heavy, but it is extremely well balanced and I haven't dropped it once (yet)! Definitely an upgrade from my last phone, which, despite being the same size, I dropped all the time. The PRIV is significantly more comfortable to hold in my hand and is far easier to keep my grip on.

Battery life is pretty standard. Requires daily charging, but seems to charge up pretty quick so it isn't really much of a chore.

Speakers are good quality and not too fuzzy, which is nice! Camera is the same. Doesn't have the same vibrance as my Samsung did, but that is an easy fix. High megapixels make for a high quality photo--with the right tweeking it can look like some seriously professional shots.

Love it!!

Love the camera and screen resolution. That's all

This is my first Android phone. The phone was originally made for AT&T. I am using Cricket, that's probably why it has been having lots problems. Phone freezes in the middle of usage. battery life is terrible. I have to charge it twice a day at least. The phone produces a lot of heat, I can feel it when the phone is in my pocket. The system is not as user-friendly as Apple's IOS. For example, I was composing a list on eBay. I took some pictures and edited them beforehand. However, when I clicked 'add pictures' on eBay, the system took me to the camera instead of my photo library and there was no other options I can choose. So I had to re-take the photos, but eBay listing page doesn't allow me to edit them. There is a long list problems I had, but those may be just something I needed to learn how.Read full review...

Great value and function.

Pros:
Slide out keyboard
Access to battery and SD card for replacements
Android marshmallow platform.
Blackberry legendary security
Audio blasts
13 m pixel camera works well
Blackberry hub is great work asset

Cons: Had to download some updates to prevent dropping of ATT signal (but all good now).

I traded up from a Blackberry z10 to the Priv and have no regrets. I like the security of Blackberry phones and I was interested in regaining the physical keyboard. Ironically I find myself not using the slide out keyboard because the touch screen works so well.
The sound volume is light years better than the z10 and other phones.
Battery: Some other reviews knocked battery life but I'm finding it on par with similar phones.
One charge lasts pretty much entire business day with regular use. Overnight without charge uses less than 5% of battery life.

Overall: I highly recommend the Blackberry Priv, especially in the price range. Just be aware that you may need to perform some software updates to prevent the dropped signal situation that took place over 2016-17 winter. I don't believe this was Blackberry's fault but they have seemingly worked it out. My phone is performing flawlessly since the updates installed.

Good smart phone

Good design in look. But back carbon cover has tiny gap between body that lets sometimes holding phone makes crack sounds. There is one little defect dots on panel at left-down side near center. Battery loss fast on 100% backlight setting. Besides that, works smooth, real keyboard, good balance. Good choice at this price.Read full review...

New Priv

I am happy with my purchase. The phone was as described. I'm transitioning from a blackberry classic, and am a long time cracberrier. This phone is a huge adjustment being the android system. But I'm glad that the phone still has a keyboard because I have sweaty palms and it doesn't go well with an all touch screen phone. I have a phone case which makes the size of the phone a little wider and doesn't fit in the hip case unless you remove it. However, the phone came in top new condition with all the essentials. Thank you much!Read full review...
