Cool effects! worth getting for that. Distortion sucks.

I first got this pedal for one reason and one reason only. It was great for having one main Effects gear and instead of a mess load of pedals (especially of the gear of a signal getting lost in one of the many wires). And it did a great job of doing that. The interface is a little tough to get used to but after a while of messing with it you should be fine. If your product doesn't come with a Manuel, you can probably download the PDF file off their BOSS website.

I wouldn't recommend getting this if your only thinking of using the distortion off of it only. To be honest, every distortion setting in this pedal is absolute crap. What I did was only use the Preamp of this processor to the effects loop of my 6505+.

That way I got the nice tube distortion sound off my amp, but got to switch it up with cool effects such as the phaser, flanger, pitch shifter, wah.. etc...

Again that's the only thing I say it's worth from this pedal. And for the price of it nowadays I say it's totally worth it. I've had many fun gigs with it and I hope you would too!

Great for studio creation work

Solidly built item. It has great sounds and shaping. IT is rather complicated to learn and not the practical choice for complicated gigging unless your sound doesn't change. it does have a lot of expansion ports, and output options. All in all the unit is a four out of five because of it's rock solid build, great options, but over complication.Read full review...

The BEST GUITAR SYNTH EVER!

I've played all kinds of synth axes. Nothing like the tracking on this GR-55...ANYWHERE! GO LOOK! I've had a problem trying to get the on-board recorder to work when it comes to downloading my MIDI FILES onto a thumb drive. So far, only a masked file I have on an already formatted 16GB thumb drive works. That one file! I can't find any material that shows me how to format the thumb drive for the pedal; so I can't use it for that feature~~which is mainly why I bought it...but after getting it, and hearing the COSM sounds of the guitar effects...I got so much more than I bargained for. Meanwhile, I bought a 120GB iPod, and hoping I can just plug that into the USB port with files I already have formatted that already work. We'll see how it goes. Meanwhile, if you have info on how I can download information about how to format a thumb drive for this beast, don't be a stranger. Forward the link or whatever to me. glynnpetti, at that yahoo place. THIS WAS A SUPER GREAT 5-STAR PURCHASE!! Hey, if you know how to hook up a Triple-Play to work with this unit, that would be great info also. Thanks!!Read full review...

Boss GT8

I've been a working musician for over 30 years. I tried the new gt-10 out in guitar center first. Decided not to spend 500 dollars on a device that I might not use that much after I bought it. So i did some research and didn't even know boss has been making these for a ling time. Read reviews on the gt8. Most users were frustrated with how hard it was to program it. Don't believe them. I figured it out within a half hour without using the manual. What really blows me away is I paid 180 for this unit. Seller lied about a couple things but my fault for buying from a guy with 0 ratings next to his name. Unit works good and when you consider the cost for 1 boss pedal it's an amazing deal. I'm currently running this through two amps, one tube, one solid state. A lot of the sounds are in stereo and sound amazing with left and right channels. I also use it for recording and it's great. To finish this I'd like to say, tube amps live can't be duplicated with pedals but the enhancements this offers are great. I was going to use this live but have decided that my current two amp set up, a vox vtx120 and a all tube crate v3112 is probably my best bet.Read full review...

Best investment I have made in quite a while.

A great guitar effects unit. Varied my guitar rig setup to include this pedal and WOW. Enjoy performing live again. I would recommend this pedal to anyone who can't seem to find that perfect live guitar sound(haven't found mine in over thirty years). I will tell you that you have to spend time tweaking this unit as most of the sounds are OK but not for the person trying to sound over the edge. I would also recommend that you run the gt-8 through the clean channel of your amp or effects loop. Run the amp volume hotter and the volume down on gt-8 to bring out the character of the amp, tweak with guitar volume knob. Add a FS-6 or equal to really add on the fly changes for live playing. For those of you selling your gt-8 because you didn't like the tone, you haven't spent enough time with it. I would also recommend that you look at using an amp with good base response as the gt-8's distortions sounds punchy and more alive. My last comment on the gt-8 is even if you get the sound you are looking for at home, beware as the sound can(and will)sound different at a venue. Some slight adjustments to your amp will normally cure that problem but don't overdue.Read full review...

Boss GT-8 Multi-Effects Guitar Processor

Does it all! Very easy to use! Top quality & durability. Some of the Pre-amps had a lot of feedback for my guitar, but that can be easily adjusted. I highly recommend having & reading through the manual. If not available with purchase, you can download it from www.bossus.com under their product support. Demos, knowledge bases, instructional dvd's will also be helpful and not be a wasted of time & money investment. Have fun! The possibilities are endless!Read full review...

GT 8 is an awesome unit.

Been using the Boss GT8 since they first made them. I love this unit.
The Chorus is great on it as is the Tremolo. Built-in delay works fine for my needs. The distortion is good once you learn to tweak it. Over all this is a great unit for live performances. I use it alone without any other pedals. It's all in there as long as you are patient enough to tweak it to your needs.
I am now buying another one just to have a back-up. I never want to deal with a pedal board again.
PS. It's built like a tank all all Boss products are..

one of the best multi effect pedals from last decade

The gt 8 is a powerful unit. I has so much into it that it will take you about a year (yes, 1 year) to learn how to use every option, mix options and get to the tone you desire. But it's worth it. By the end, you will have acquired a lot of knowledge about the different aspects of sound that will help you when recording or playing live.
One more thing, in my opinion the pedal sounds better when it goes through a tube amp. However, what is really interesting about pedals like this one is the fact that it improves your sound if using cheap low quality guitars or amps. For example, sometimes I got better sound from a Mark II electric guitar going through the gt8 into a Yamaha power amp from the 70's than from a Jackson Kelly with Dimarzios through the gt8 into a Carvin tube amp half stack. It's all about finding the right spot with the knobs.

This is a fantastic product for its tech level!

Older model with ok amp models, But I use this only for eq chorus, etc for effects and I am very pleased this unit is the most versatile floor board i've ever owned! I purchased this after I sold my entire rig to down size. I wanted the large high gain sound of my 3 4X12 rig in a combo. I used this to replace my wet side by running it through the effects loop.
The effects are very lush and clean sounding and the EQ range is very good.
The down side is because it's an older model the amp models are very processed sounding and if you've ever owned a tube amp there is no real comparison between a set of preamp tubes driven versus a simulated version of the same thing.

If your looking for an all in one unit with a solid state amp go with a line 6 floor board there versions of driven amps sound more accurate, however if your using a floor board in the same manner like I am with a real tube amp then for the price this is the unit you want!
