All time best movie ever
William Wallace (Gibson) is born a common highlander, the son of a lowly farmer, but he soon finds himself at the very eye of the storm. For Scotland suffers under the rule of the ruthless English king, Edward the Longshanks, and any attempt to resist his cruelty is met with the harshest punishment. When young Wallace's father and older brother are killed in a failed bid for freedom, Wallace is taken away by his uncle Argyle, who raises and educates him. Years later, Wallace returns home seeking a peaceful life as a farmer. He finds his childhood sweetheart, Murron (Catherine McCormack), and secretly marries her, hoping to start a family. But in so doing, he's already broken the law. Longshanks, in a bid to strengthen his control in Scotland, has given his lords there the right of "Prima Nocta" - the right to sleep with any new bride on their wedding night. Wallace's defiance leads the local English lord to last out. In a rage, Wallace responds by leading a revolt that wipes out the English presence in his village entirely. When Longshanks attempts to crush this uprising, the situation quickly escalates. Soon, Wallace finds himself the leader of a massive rebellion determined to free Scotland from the English forever or die trying.Read full review...
Braveheart defines honor and nobility
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, definitely in my top 3. There are all lot of life lessons here, some that are just under the surface, others that are right in your face. This is my definition of a guy movie! This is Rated “R” for nudity, adult situations and graphic violence. It is a classic, and at 3 hours long. There is a great mix of romance and battle scenes, to keep you interested. It will someday, probably be sliced and diced for a “PG” TV audience.
This is directed by Mel Gibson who plays Scottish hero William Wallace, a man with simple roots who finds himself, leading the Scottish revolt against England in the late 13th century against the despicable King Edward the Longshanks (Edward I).
Braveheart defines honor and nobility in a way we all accept, reinforcing what we've always felt, that true nobility is not the result of your birthright, but that it comes from the way you live your life. It's an excellent “rule to live by” that stays with you long after the film is over, and that is all too rare these days. There is a lot of people who take issue with the films Historical inaccuracies but it is not meant to be a historical text book, it is a drama, and a dam good one. Buy the dvd and watch it numerous times, it’s that good!Read full review...
Braveheart Special Edition DVD
Despite the media's attempt to destroy Mel Gibson's reputation, this is just another of the masterpieces this fine actor and person has lifted to greatness. This story does take some liberties with history, as no one is really sure about the specific details of William Wallace's life and rise to be Protector of Scotland...Gibson's portrayal of an uncompromising patriot flying in the face of cruelty, oppression and immorality is a fine message for our times, especially in the United States, which needs this message more than ever today.
The actors in this film all give first class performances, in my opinion, and the musical score is worth purchasing the soundtrack, if you prefer Celtic style music, which this reviewer does...
Man's fight against evil continues, to gain true freedom for the world, and this film is a first classs reminder for those who need to come out of their cocoon.Read full review...
Braveheart
This movie is amazing Mel Gibson is a fantastic actor and director. Mel takes the character of William Wallace and does a great job. This is probably one of the most beloved movies in cinema history, especially the speech he gives at one of the major battles "They can take our lives, but they will not take our freedom." What a powerful scene and the most remembered. This is almost a three-hour film but it does not feel like it because you are so engaged with it. The locations they picked just made the movie that more authentic, hey if you are going to make a movie about a Scotsman do it in Scotland. I'm pretty sure almost everyone saw this movie so this won't be a spoiler but I was so upset that he died but when he denied the king mercy and said freedom even though you know he will die you still root for him. Patrick McGoohan who plays Longshanks the king is a threatening and menace presence and he does a fantastic job at it and you hate that character with a purple passion. There is not a single thing wrong with this movie. The acting is amazing, the story is amazing, directing is amazing and the music is amazing. I'm so glad that Mel directed this movie because he knew what he wanted and if it was someone else we would not have gotten this masterpiece. there is a reason why it won so many awards. And Catherine McCormack who plays his wife was excellent and so was and Angus McFayden who played Robert the Bruce was excellent too. If you have not seen this movie then I recommend you do.
