Great binoculars

This is the second pair of this binocular that I have owned. Something went wrong with the first pair, and I did look into getting it repaired, but I was told there was some reason it wouldn't be repairable (it was years ago, and I can no longer remember the reason). So they have been sitting unused for years. So I purchased this new pair. I love them every bit as much as I did my first pair of binoculars. The stabilization makes images very steady and clear. I laughingly refer to these binoculars as "nose hair" binoculars because from a distance you can get a very close-up look and clear look at anything.
The only issue I had with this new pair of binoculars was that it did not come with a neck strap. This is not a lightweight binocular, and a person wouldn't be walking around for hours holding them by hand or in their carrying bag--which does not have a shoulder strap, anyway. They need to be quickly accessible--hanging from your neck so you can grab them on a moment's whim (there are actually slots built into the binocular for a neck strap). My solution was to take the neck strap off my old, unused pair and put it on this new pair.
For me, this binocular is the next best thing to a spotting scope.

Cheap latches can make binocs useless.

Broken latch. Cheap part. Way overpriced. Buy a real Telescope. Not binocs for stars, planets, etc..
I will, say, the idea of non shaking binocs is great. How ever, I will never buy any binocs again from Canon. Read full review...

It's been almost 4 years now and I never get tired of using them!

I have owned the 18 x 50's for 4 years now. I have thoroughly enjoyed using them. The daytime scenic views are really impressive. But, using them for astronomy is where I think they really shine.
<br>Holding a pair of bino's up and looking at stars takes time and is exhausting. My first pair of bino's had less power and were lighter. Even so, trying to keep them steady for any length of time was near impossible. Even with a reclining chair, the jitters left me feeling dizzy after a while. I also owned a pair of giant 25/45 x 100 binoculars. They came with their own tripod. They were the same kind used by the military on the Korean DMZ. They were amazing. I could see things so far away with them. The jitters were their downfall too. They would make my eyes tired and sore.
Canon to the rescue! Now, I just activate the "image stabilization" and all my past frustration with binoculars just disappears. Yes, I can easily go through a set of AA batteries in one night, but, for me, they are well worth it.

If you can find someone who has one of the larger Canon IS models to try out, go for it. But, I am warning you! Your binocular world will never be the same! After all these years, I still enjoy letting people use them, just to hear their, "OH WOW!" during and, "These are really amazing!" afterwards. Everyone who has ever tried them, has loved them.

Very Satisfied with Canon 18 x 50 binoculars.

This model has added two features to my previous 8 x 30 model. The Image stabilizer button clicks on, and you do not have to continually press it to operate it. It also has a connection where you can fasten it on a tripod. It could be better, if it had 70 mm lens vs the 50. Maybe the next model.Read full review...

Essential Power and Image Stability

Until I came upon the Canon 18X50 IS, I thought binoculars and telescopes were a waste of money. No longer. The Canon binoculars actually work. The reason is simple: these binoculars have the essential power and image stability that are needed for seeing long distance. Anything less is a waste of money. I can now truly enjoy the ocean view from my backyard.Read full review...

Great binoculars, the best!

Living on a lake I can see clearly boats, fishermen, skiers, ski do's and swimmers a mile away. Fantastic optics and I knew before purchasing that they were a little heavy. Still, my go to bino's for distance viewing. If the astronauts use them in the space station what more can I say? Buy them, they are great.Read full review...

Used, Abused, But Awesome

I have looked at these stabilized binoculars for years but could never justify the need for them until I had the need for a high magnification yet portable optic to use to spot target shooting at longer ranges. The ability to stabilize the image has been invaluable using these binoculars for this purpose. I bought these used and the exterior is pretty beat up and the lens coatings have been practically rubbed off but the image quality and light gathering is still excellent and the stabilization functions flawlessly. I am pretty darn impressed and very satisfied.Read full review...

Best Ever Binoculars

During time time I have had them which has been about two weeks I found that they are the beat I have ever owned.
The stability is great.
The lens are super clear.
They are expensive, but you will get what you are paying for, stable binoculars.
You just press the button and the drifting and wiggling stops.
Would recommend.

A LOT OF RESEARCH AND EXPEIENCE LED ME TO THE CANON 18X50.

I already own the Canon IS 10x30 and 10X42 L. I wanted something that would reach further and not be as shaky as my standard 15x50. The 18X50 are superb! You may want to do the same thing I did with these and the 10X42 set, and that is invest in some good Hoya filters to protect the objective lens. Or spend less BUT by all means protect the glass. The only downside I can think of is the eye cups are a little stiff and the weight is perhaps more than some people want to deal with for extended periods. I'm excited by the contrast and clarity at long distances.Read full review...

Superb stabilized binoculars

Wonderful binoculars, when tremor prevents normal binocular use. I had a pair of 12*36 Canon which are excellent - these are even better! A bit heavy, but image quality excellent & stable, even with marked shakes, no down side that I've found, other than the price! Zeiss 20*40 mechanically stabilized binoculars £5,500!!Read full review...

Cream of the crop

Pros & Cons:

Pros: Great lens quality, Great for viewing when on land. I use them from beach home to watch the boats out at sea. I no longer use my tripod and spotting scope because the stabilizer has essentially removed the need for a tripod and therefore take up less space. Also, they are just easier to reach and grab for a quick view.

Cons: They only have 1 degree of stabilization, which is fine if you're on land, If you're on a boat, look for binoculars with 4-5 degrees of stabilization to compensate for rolling on the water.
