Decent Lens for the Money, hard to beat it for how usefull it is!

Decent Lens - I'm a pro photog, and use mostly primes, and this was all I could afford for a true 28mm prime...

the 2.8 is fast enough for me for what I need it for... but it is a little bit fuzzy at the corners at f/2.8 - at f/4 it's much better for sure...

I like it too, because it is very close focusing, and if you need a lens for this, you can't beat these... it is not a MACRO lens, some people get that confused... close focus and MACRO are 2 separate things...

all in all a great little lens - decent build, etc - great for doing group shots on a crop camera like the D20,30,40,50, etc, and the rebels of course too...

There is nothing else in this price range that will give you 28mm as nicely... great also for landscape stuff...

I own the 50mm f/1.4 the 85mm 1.4, this lens holds it's own against those...Read full review...

Sharp images with a few downfalls

While my planned images (nighttime photography, posed shots) were always crystal clear, using this lens during an event can range anywhere from awesome to frustrating. The autofocus is loud and unreliable in low light, but get outside or in a well-lit area and you're golden. This lens is light and wonderful for street or interior photography, not suitable for portrait photography unless the distortion is fixed in post.Read full review...

A fast, good quality lens perfect for crop-sensor cameras.

As a used lens, the value for a Canon AF-S sensor camera is excellent. With a 1.6x crop factor, this lens gives you an equivalent of ~45mm on a full-frame sensor camera. This is a reasonable approximation to a "normal" 50mm lens field of view.

The fast f/2.8 aperture is a great advantage for lower light scenes, although f/2 or better would be optimal. Given the price difference though, I think the better choice for an enthusiast is this lens.

The autofocus is standard motor driven, so it is noisy and slow - at least compared to a USM-driven lens. Again, given the price advantage the autofocus is fine.

The image quality I've experienced has been excellent. I haven't done a pixel-by-pixel comparison, nor would I as I'm not a good enough photographer, but overall I have nothing bad to say about the resulting photos produced with this lens.Read full review...

Canon 28mm f/2.8 FD Lens

From many years of experience with this lens, I found it is a great, dependable, lightweight lens with a good maximum f-stop and a very useful angle of view. Probably the best wide angle lens to own if you are picking one wide angle lens for your Canon F-1, A-1, AE-1, AL-1, T50,70,80,90 or other FD lens mount cameras. If you go much wider, you may have problems getting your flash to cover the entire area of view. Since it is light lens and a very flexible focal length, you're more likely to want to carry it with you and have the benefit of its focal length at your reach.Read full review...

This is an essential lens for Canon 5D cameras, as well as for Rebels.

This lens is a normal lens for Canon Rebel cameras. For the larger Canon 5D cameras, this lens is 50% more wide than a normal lens.

With a fixed focal length, it is sharper and brighter than the corresponding setting on the kit zoom lens. The focus motor is noisy and the build quality is not a match for lenses in the luxury class.

Sharp, wide-angle prime lense for use on Digital Rebel cameras.

I purchased this lens second hand as a lightweight, wide-angle alternative to my 28-135 zoom that usually stayed on my Digital Rebel SLR. I was also interested in making more extensive use of prime lenses, and my 50mm isn't wide enough to use effectively around the house.

The EF 28mm takes sharper photos and better portraits relative to the zoom lens and is the standard lens that I use on the camera when around the house. I look forward to making use of it for many years.Read full review...

Great little wide-angle prime

This is an oldie but goodie. Pretty sharp (for a wide angle) and surprisingly quick to focus. Yes, it's noisier than a USM or STM lens but it's no worse than a kit lens. Feels quite sturdy with a metal mount. Gives a very useful 44mm equivalent view on a crop. You may wonder why you would get this lens for a crop rather than the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 which is smaller and a little sharper. Simple: this is a true EF lens that will work on full frame or crop body. I use an APSC for now but plan to upgrade to FF soon and didn't want to make my lens redundant. This can be a true wide on FF or normal on crop. If you're committed to the APSC format go with the EF-S 24mm.

This makes a better walking-around prime for a crop body than the popular 50mm f/1.8. True, the 50mm performs better in general but the 80mm equivalent view is rather useless for anything other than close portraits. This lens is better for street shots and group portraits.Read full review...

Old stock back in vogue

With the advent of lens adapters, such as on the Panasonic Lumix GH2, old lenses with aperture rings are experiencing a new life. Canon abandoned the FD series in 1987 and changed to an electronic aperture with EF lenses. These only shoot wide open with most lens adapters. And why pay more for plastic parts and non-usable AF or IS with a single aperture?

FD lenses are sturdy, sharp, and have nice long focusing rings. A lot of these lenses have been sitting in closets or haven't had much use for decades. Many good to excellent FD lenses are still on the market, and eBay is a good place to find them. They are not hard to find and are not "vintage" per se.

The 28/2.8 is excellent for the GH2 since it becomes a relatively fast 56mm "normal" lens. This is my "go to" lens for indoors shooting with existing light. This lens is easy to find at a low cost.Read full review...

Great piece of Canon glass

I usually use Canon EF-S 17-55 and 10-22 lenses, but this lens on my crop sensor camera is about 44mm. Great for walk around and super sharp!
