Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 USM Lens

This is a great macro lens, sure if you want to do pictures such as insects you may want a longer range lens, but for 1.6x crop factor cameras (if you do not want to lose any photo) and for the price, this lens is the answer. Very well built, metal mount. Superb glass on both ends and a 7 blade-diaphragm keep your pictures very sharp and the bokeh beautiful. Color is great and distortion is extremely minimal (only there if your actually LOOKING VERY HARD for it.) And being that it's a USM, the focusing is smooth, fast, and silent. It also focuses internally so the front of the lens does not move or rotate and the lens stays the same size during focusing, great if your shooting an insect. Well priced high quality macro prime lens

If found the 60mm f2.8 EF-S USM Lens is an excellent lens for Macro Photography and good prime lens for portrait photography. I feel that this lens was better than the equivalent 100mm f2.8 when using a C frame camera such as my 7D. The 100mm lens seems to be the optimal size for the full frame cameras. Since the C frame is 1.6 x 60mm it is effectively 96mm.

I am very satisfied with the lens, it produces exceptionally sharp pictures with little effort and I would consider the sharpness better than any of my Zoom Lenses which are all L lenses.

The downside is that I reciently purchased a second camara which is a full frame 5D Mark II body and the 60mm can not be used on that camara.Read full review...

This lens is awesome! The detail is incredible, the blurring of ugly backgrounds are amazing + it is light weight. I'm SO pleased! Great for Macro AND More!!!!

Excellent lens for Macro. Love it, nice focal range lets you get close and still get a great crisp shot. Great Bokeh!!!

Also works as a prime lens for portraits. I used this lens for nature shots on hikes and it takes really nice shots. No IS but worked awesome for good rich colorful images. I am torn sometimes which lens to use, because this lens is so nice, I sometimes choose it for A LOT more than Macro!!!

Great compact lens

Snappy focus and tack sharp picks lets this lens shine. Plus macro capability as well. Definitely worth a spot in your camera bag.

Sharp and compact

This is a sharp and compact lens at an affordable price. There is nothing fancy with it, but it simply delivers. Look at the MTF chart -- it's just sharp. There is NO noticeable IQ defects whatsoever, and bokeh is very nice and controlled (in a modern-style sense, but in a different league than those now expensive, old lenses which produces artistic boken).

The manual focus ring could be wider and more dampened, and the construction could be more solid, but given its mass production heritage, that is as expected.

If you have a cropped sensor Canon DSLR, this should be a prime that you have in your bag. That's the 350D, 400D, 450D, 500D, 1000D, and 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D family.Read full review...

Excellent lens for special needs

I got the lens because I needed to take close up pictures of crystal figurines for eBay sales and auctions. My traditional lenses did not let me get close enough. This lens works fine and the pictures are as I had hoped. I'm not a pro so this is the best I can say. I also like the lens because it is amall and light and works very well as a portrait lens.

Awesome Macro

My very first shots with it were just spectacular.

I love the light weight. It is really quiet, too. The fast f2.8 is also pretty nice. It occasionally searches for focus, but I simply get it close manually, and the auto-focus then does its job.

It appears to be a perfect companion for my 20d. Wonderful choice!
