Good Bridge Camera with lousy view finder!

Nice bridge camera which takes very good, sharp photos - but the new finder is very small and you can't tell whether your photos are good until you review them! Also, the small view finder makes it very difficult to find subject matter - at least, the small ones! I enjoy bird photography and sometimes just shoot in the direction that I know the bird is without being able to find the bird in the view finder. That said, even bird behind branches generally come out well focused. The ISO can leave photos grainy at higher ends, but 400 ISO has been working fairly well in low light. Battery life seems good and it is a very light weight camera. For serious photography, I still use my DSLR, but this Canon Powershot is great for quick walks or to throw in the car and have handy. I also plan to carry this while biking when the weather cools down a bit more.Read full review...

I like the Canon Powershot SX50

I prefer the Canon Powershot SX50 to the SX40 which I preordered but immediately sent back. Did not order the SX60 but I finally decided to replace my SX30 with the SX50 and have never regretted it. Both my wife and I use the SX50 and I have two back up cameras still in their original boxes - that is how much I like this camera. I use the SX50 as my primary camera and rarely break out my 60D. This is a prosumer camera and easy enough to use for me since I have progressed with this camera series since the S3. I hate that Canon does not provide a printed user guide or even the option to purchase one. I think they do a great disservice to those who are not familiar with the SX series of Canon cameras. I shoot primarily on AV or TV, M (manual) when aperture or speed preferred setting do not provide the desired results. I love the articulated monitor and probably will never purchase another camera without one. I carry my SX50 with me at all times in my modified photo vest. I recommend it to anyone wanting a camera that will shoot from 24 mm to 1200 mm (35 equiv). Image stabilization helps a lot.
It is easy to use - if you know how. I find the image quality satisfactory and shoot JPEG almost exclusively. It is an excellent value. Charlie Wambeke Photography October 2015

Canon PowerShot SX50 is a great value and a quality camera

It is a quality camera at a low price. My first Canon. Have a Nikon D800 and D610, higher res than this camera but both are a lot more expensive. If you don't need professional level images like my D800 produces with a 36 mp sensor, then I recommend this Canon PowerShot SX50! High quality, low price, easy to use.Read full review...

The Best Camera for the Price Out There

This is my "desert island" camera -- if I was stranded on a desert island and could have only one camera, this would be it. I never go out the door without it, even if I'm also carrying DSLR's worth thousands of dollars this camera is always with me. Yes, it sometimes lacks a little detail, sometimes produces images with some digital noise, and things of that nature, but overall this camera produces amazing images and has pleased me for years. My original SX-50 died after many hundreds of thousands of photos and I went in search of a replacement, and found this one. It's like new and works perfectly. I expect it to continue the legacy of my beloved original camera.Read full review...

Super everyday camera

I take this camera with me most days and have it at the ready when I need to capture some image. Often my target is in a tree or distant field, but sometimes it can be something close at hand. The lens on the SX50 lets me take good photos in all those situations. It is so much easier to take this camera than to lug a DSLR and a couple of lenses. It isn't going to produce the same quality of photos as a DSLR, but considering price, weight and size this is an excellent alternative.

I have owned an SX50 since they first came available (4 years ago?) and bought this one for my spouse.

Incredible Zoom! Very stable! Excellent battery life!

I've been looking to get a do-it-all camera that could fill my camera + camcorder needs. This bad boy takes incredible HD video! But after recording onto a 64GB 45mb/s Class 10 Sandisk SD card, the HD video had automatically stopped after 15 minutes of continuous recording twice, so please take note of this if you're interested in recording non-stop video for a long period of time with this device. Might I note that after recording in full HD for 30 minutes, the battery was still full? This unit has an amazing battery life to it! The movies record into .MOV format for easy editing and playback as well.

The picture quality is fantastic! The fact that this takes pictures in RAW format makes this camera even more phenomenal! But as you may already know from researching this camera, the zoom on this is amazing. Even without a tripod, I'm able to take a shot of someones face at 50x zoom. When I go to use autofocus on this camera for a shot, it does take a couple times holding in the shutter halfway before it focuses right. However, if you're more about manually focusing, you'll have no problem with this!

If your budget is $400 on a camera, this is ideal, especially if you're not picky with size. Having the ability to have a vari-angle LCD screen is VERY useful for those high and low shots that you're never normally able to review until you've already taken the shot.

Amazing Camera !!

I am a hobby photographer at best. I live in the mountains and the wildlife and birds have me taking pictures all the time. I have bought other point and shoot zoom cameras , and have always been very disappointed in the clarity of the pictures. A friend recommended this camera, and trust me.....this camera does not disappoint !! At full zoom pictures are clear and amazing color. There are so many bells and whistles on this camera that I am like a kid in a candy shop.
You wont be unhappy or disappointed if you buy this camera. But I would suggest you go online and buy the complete manual, opposed to reading it on line with the disc provided. Much easier to read and play all at the same time to learn all there is to know.
You just cant beat this camera for the price, and having so many features and options is a major plus. Amazing and I am fully enjoying it.

Canon PowerShot SX50 HS 12.1 MP Digital Camera

This is my 4th Canon camera. I have 2 G11s and a 40D with several lenses. I bought this particular camera for its 50X zoom capability. I want to be able to shoot pictures of birds and wildlife from a distance without changing lens. I find the Canon cameras easy to use and, to date, I have never had a problem with one. In size and weight, the SX50 is a little larger than my G11, but is still easy for me to handle, and easy to change settings. I need the stabilization feature since I am 80 years old and I have a tremor.
If I had to pick my favorite feature, I guess it would be the view finder. It's hard to find an eyepiece on a compact camera. I like this feature in the bright sunlight.
I bought this camera, used, but before I did, I went back to find and read the reviews, which were good. The reviews gave me the confidence to move forward and make my purchase. It's a honey of a camera.

Great Camera!!!

This camera is amazing. I could not be happier with my purchase. I wish it had wi fi capability but I knew it didn't when purchasing it. I wasn't willing to sacrifice the quality of the pictures just to obtain the wi fi feature. Someday, maybe Canon will come out with one that has this same outstanding qualities AND wi fi. For now, this camera can't be beat by any other at this price point. Read full review...

Love it, especially the long reach of the lens.

I have a Canon EOS Rebel XT, and my longest lens is a 250mm. That really limits my bird pics to those within 10-15 feet at most. And I simply can't afford the good lenses that go past that. This whole camera (at a 'used' price) with the loooong lens costs a lot less than a longer lens for the DSLR. This Powershot SX50 with it's 1200mm lens lets me reach out significantly farther, with excellent picture quality. Have only had it for a couple of weeks, but am loving it so far! It's smaller and lighter than a typical DLSR, but is also easy to hold thanks to the large grip on the right side. My only problem is trying not to hit buttons on the back while maneuvering for shots of birds as they move about. That's probably a personal problem, not a design flaw, although I never had that problem with the larger DSLR I have. Anyway, check out the feather detail on my example pics. I never even saw details like that while using my DSLR with it's 250mm lens.Read full review...
