Fantastic “always carry” camera!

This is my “always carry” camera for fast deployment. The zoom is, frankly, quite amazing with a 1365mm focal length equivalent enabling absurdly close-up shots of birds and animals in a flash. My other main camera is a Canon EOS 6D Mk.II which is a bigger and more deliberate full-frame unit with interchangeable lenses. Ultimately the image quality and operating parameters are higher with the 6D, as would be expected, but the SX70 is a brilliant compromise to carry at all times for opportunistic shots. It is also an excellent first “proper” camera for new users.Read full review...

Lightweight but low quality images which lack any detail

The only positive I can find is that it is light weight.

The negatives are many. Slow to zoom, I can't stop it from freezing images in the view finder despite turning off the review thing. This means it is impossible to take anything that is moving as you can't see to pan the image. The object has long gone by the time you can see through the view finder again.

The image quality is pretty poor. Birds should have feathers, animals should have fur, grass should have individual spikes. A lot of the time it blurs into one colour. I have tried loads of different settings but find it very hard to achieve anything I would bother looking at. My previous camera is a Canon Eos 7D. I was looking for a light weight camera to take on walks and the idea of having just the one lens was very attractive. However this camera may have a big zoom, it may be light weight, but the quality is sooo poor what is the point. I don't own a mobile phone but people seem to get much better images from a mobile phone than I have achieved so far with this.

I will continue to experiment to try and get reasonable colours, with enough detail but as I like to take moving objects if they continue to freeze in the viewfinder I have no idea how I will ever get images beyond flukes mostly out of focus. Very disappointed. I would like to give no stars but for being light I will give it one.

The wonder of Canon and it’s bridge cameras.

It’s A combination of many Canon Ways of operating so feels intuitive. The hardest thing I found was pairing the camera to my iPhone but it’s well worth doing and the combination produce some really nice pictures. The best ever done, that I feel now it’s just the camera and the phone rather than me. However I’m not averse to pointing and shooting.Read full review...

Very pleased with Canon Powershot SX70HS

The camera is in very good condition and offers promise of fulfilling my hope to take better wildlife photographs.
The Seller has obviously cared for the camera, included helpful extras, such as spare batteries, and carefully packed and sent it by courier.
To the question is it easy to use, truth is there is a steep learning curve if you want to get off using the camera exclusively in automatic mode. The quality of the images will depend on your learned skill, where and when the picture is taken. All bridge cameras are least 'happy' in low light conditions, and this one is no exception. I have yet to test it in brighter conditions but remain hopeful that it will prove a good purchase. I have other Canon cameras and they are very good quality products that are reliable, well built and can produce superb results. This camera was reduced to encourage a quick sale before Christmas, therefore excellent value for the money.

Impressive zoom let down by poor image quality

The zoom is impressive and that's all.- Image quality is generally poor, and especially at the extreme end of the zoom, not help by extremely narrow aperture range. Also design is such that if you fit a tripod plate, it obstructs the battery/card slot.Read full review...

Great camera

Excellent bridge camera, superior to the SX60 in a number of ways and I was fortunate to buy it at a very good price.

I can recommend this model as a versatile, lightweight camera with loads of complexity for the enthusiast and simplicity for those who prefer point and press. Great results should ensue.Read full review...
