Built Like an Airplane - Not a Tank

No this lens is Not "Built Like a Tank", but it is lightweight and optically Awesome.

Now you realize that this lens has a fixed F/Stop at F/11, so you have to know what you're doing to get the shots you want, and at 800mm, that can be challenging.

Although the lens has a plastic body, it is well made from a mechanical and optical stand-point.

You can read details about how you have to extend it, and all of the specs elsewhere, but I'm simply going to describe my experience using this lens with what I consider, the hardest photographic subjects to capture, Birds in Flight.

Bottom line; The IS works great, especially when coupled with In Body Stabilization, which allowed me to hand hold video... At 800mm !!

So the IS is fantastic, and the optics are great as well. I'm getting tack sharp images of birds moving very fast, in and out of extreme lighting conditions.

So is this lens built like Canons L lenses, No. Is this lens fast, No.

But is this lens Great... I think Yes.

Not so great

PROs
provides wonderful bokeh
good focus and fast interaction with camera
does great for bird pix in the middle of the day
lightweight for such a long lens

CONs
can't use it in even semi-low light, as it causes ISO to run so high it ruins pix
bought for a wildlife lens, but can't use it because I can't use it in low-ish light

I knew on front end it would have limited use, but didn't realize how limited it would be...

Terrific value or the money

Not for the purist.

But combined with a Canon R5, for example, that shoots at ISO 6400 with minimal noise, you can shoot wild life, and the moon and planets, in ways that are simply not possible short of a $17,000 lens. It has limitations such as the F/11 fixed, or the no water sealing at all, but these are easily dealt with if you are shooting with something like an R5.

Terrific value for the money.

Great lens, great price.

So far so good. For an 800mm, it has very good handling. The f11 fixed just lessens the variables, but still provides good bokeh.

Light weight super telephoto

Image quality and reach on this lens can't be beat for the price point. I have mine in camo and use it for bird photography.
