Best replacement for your Ford

The concentric clutch release cylinder should be replaced along with the clutch disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, and release bearing in Ford trucks that use this design. My experience has been that this part will probably wear out before the clutch components do. This one from Sachs works great and appears identical to the original part. Some auto parts stores carry one with a different design for the hydraulic line connector, I think it uses a hairpin clip instead of the quick disconnect. Reviews I have read say the new connector design doesn't stay in place very well so be sure to get one with the original design.

One thing I was impressed with is how easy this release cylinder was to bleed compared to the original. Once you have everything put back together just crack the bleeder screw and let it drip for a few minutes with the reservoir cap off, adding fluid as needed. I would make sure all of the dirty original fluid is replaced, total system capacity is only 8 ounces or so. Once that is done, you should have a good clutch pedal with no mushiness or pretravel. Another thing you can do to get one of these bled out if it is being stubborn is to leave the bleeder screw tightened, take the cap off, and then pump the pedal over and over. This will help shake out any remaining air bubbles.
