Easy and not school-book rote

I've had traditional foreign language classes before, including Latin and French. And for all of that work, I have retained very little. I was skeptical that the Pimsleur course would be any different, and was leery of a course based on listening to native speakers to try to learn a language like Icelandic. I was wrong in my skepticism. It IS easy. You hear a conversation up front and before you can say to yourself, "no way," working within one minute, you are engrossed in learning the first word and by the end of the next 29 minutes you know exactly what the conversation was. The learning is startlingly quick and built upon in subsequent lessons. Small errors are easily corrected and really won't bother you at all. You'll recognize immediately what you did or didn't do. I highly recommend this course. Plus it's real language and not necessarily only the stiff, very formal school taught language that is typically the norm.Read full review
