Series goes out on a whimper.

With all due respect, the Critters films are not what we generally refer to as "quality" cinema. You have Gremlins-inspired Muppets with mohawks whose only purpose in life is to feast causing violent mayhem. It is what it is. And there is something to be said for films that are borderline ridiculous and overly outlandish that do it with a straight face not attempting to hide their minor league tendencies. Critters films are goofy, and a bit gory, and often humorous playing on dark fantasies we only dare think of in daydreams. And there's nothing wrong with that.

But, where Critters 4 gets into trouble is the lack of Critters themselves (or Crites, forgive my lack of political correctness). For starters, we basically have a pair of Crites running rampant on a space station laying havoc to a group of salvagers who've unknowingly released them. The Crites aren't really present until the half way mark and only make brief appearances after that. In addition, all the humor is gone. Charlie's antics and mishaps were often a highlight of the previous entries, but here a couple d'oh moments on his part and that's it. The physical slapstick was often a fun accent to the Critters films.

What does highlight this otherwise forgettable entry is the solid production values. The space station (Terracorp)looks expensive. And one unintentionally entertaining bit is seeing how they perceived future technology. Big, clunky, pixel displays. It was quite common of the era and to get a refresher of former perceptions is nice. Of course, Brad Dourif is a pleasure (when is he not?).

Critters 4 isn't a total loss. If you've made it through the first 3 films there's no need to avoid the fourth. Just know that it's kinda bland, takes it's time with what minimal story it has, and we don't see much of the Crites. In fact, they really aren't even imposing as oppose to an afterthought. For Critters fans only. The rest can go play Skip it.

Disappointing!.

Shot in low light, a lot of talk, good sets, very little real good shots of the creatures. A lot of these kind of movies seem to be shot in low light and not show what they advertise. I was disappointed.
I'll not be purchasing many more of these cheap, poorly acted, scarce creatures movies. They all must get their music from the same place to.

Hey, your win some and you lose some.

"Could've Been Better!"

Don Opper, Terrence Mann, Brad Dourif and
Angela Bassett star in this 1992 sci-fi/horror
sequel. A bounty hunter helps a group of
space salvagers fight hungry furballs.
This final installment could've been
better and one of the things I don't
like is that Mann's character, Ug is
bad. This dvd has nice picture and
sound plus trailers for all 4 films.
Still recommended for Critters fans.

Well Worth the Money for this Movie....

This is the 4th and last installment of the "Critters" movies. They made the last 2 movies as a continuation at the same time. This series of movies came out around the same time Gremlins came out, and did not get any "HYPE" like the Gremlins movie did. I would recommend this movie and all of the critters movies to watch for you and the whole family. Excellent quality, acting, storyline, and over all effects. Well worth the time to watch and money spent...Read full review...

critters 4

This movie is just not up to the standards of the other 3 critters. These are all campy films and that is what I love about them but it was just like...Oh well, let's just make a film that kills these things off so we don't have to do this anymore. People who love these movies should be really disappointed in this one.Read full review...

Critters 4

I like all of the critters movies. Critters 4 concentrated more on the characters then it did the critter action. But still, it was an enjoyable movie.

Did not like it as much as the others.

Liked all the critter movies but, I did not like the ending. I can't stand when a movie is going good and the producer ruins the movie by giving it a bad ending.
