You are going to need more batteries.......

If you are looking at going electric here are a few things you need to know right off the bat. #1 If you have any thing other than a postage stamp sized yard you are going to need the larger capacity 60v battery or multiple 6ah or 9ah. I am not a fan of cordless outside of 20v hand tools. Since I jumped in with the 60v pancake air compressor I thought I would give the weed whacker a try (since my gas one would not start). I am a big skeptic of this move towards everything electric and this Dewalt Trimmer proves my point. I had enough juice in my single 60v battery to weed eat around my AC condenser two small trees and 6' of planter box before I was out of juice. $250 dollar tool and I was able to weed eat all of 10/15 min. I am now faced with the decision to return the tool (which is well made, has a lot of power and is refreshing to not have carb issues) or sink another $300 into batteries that will need to be replaced in a few years. How about just designing a carburetor that wont clog up after every summers use. Read full review...

Works good, when it works.

Hated the spool on it, always had to remove the spool cover to feed more line. The string is week, some of the weeds in Texas is stronger than the line. The trimmer overheats and shuts down in about 45 minutes of use forcing me to get out the gas Stihl trimmer.Read full review...

A good investment

This is a very nice weed trimmer! It is way lighter and more balanced than the gas Stihl it is replacing. It's got great power and good battery life. The only thing I hate is the guard. The one it comes with is narrow and useless. An extended guard is available as an add on from Dewalt. The bump feed seems to hold up but replacing it with a universal one that's easier to load would be the way to go. All in all, it's a good weed trimmer that I think you'd enjoy. I would definitely buy it again!Read full review...

Nice trimmer with half the noise!

I had hesitated for quite some time in making this purchase thinking that the run time would not what I expected. I was pleasantly surprised as I weed eated my yard and my neighbors yard with two bars left. Keep in mind this did not come with a battery and batteries are VERY expensive. Overall experience is positive and was pleased with how it handled. Unit is solid and weighs about the same as my gas powered unit and with the 60v battery, it balances out well so there is no forearm strain. The spool head mechanism and feeder appear to work fine though there is a high pitched whine associated with it while in use. Line feed and line replacement has yet to be evaluated, we'll see how it works after the first spool is run out.

Dewalt is one of those brands that most folks can't go out and buy all at once. I have been accumulating Dewalt products for over 20 years and now I'm at the replacement phase of converting from 18v to the 20/60 volt line of products.

Powerful

Very powerful. The hi/lo and variable speed trigger is nice. Haven't had to respool it yet. But line bump works smoothly, and nice line that it comes spooled with. All depends on what size battery you use and how thick the grass and weeds are on how long the charge holds. Only downside is how heavy it is. If you run it all day, your arms will know it. Others complain about the narrow guard. I didn't have a problem with it. Never had anything hit me in the face. That's all i care about. Of course my boots and jeans were covered. But I've never ran one that didn't do that..... I should also note that it came packaged well, was brand new, and very little assembly. Read full review...

Great Product, Good Power!!

Great product, good power. Can cut 90% of grass on low setting. Need away to clean air pathway on motor, grass easily blocks air passage ways. Love Dewalt 60V tools!!

Beast, but replace the guard and probably the string head.

First off I'm not getting paid for this and I'm a farm kid who owns every Stihl product made and the Snap-On truck used to stop at my shop to borrow tools to show. So when I say this tool is a awesome tool it comes from someone who knows their tools. With that said, be prepared to change batteries if you plan to use it a lot. It will drain a good 60V Flex battery in about 20 minutes of use. Also, order the Black & Decker OEM N512929 Replacement Guard, 15in right away as the guard that comes with this is about as useless as it could get, honestly just a good waste of a little plastic. It's only about 4 inches wide so everything will come flying back at you. Also the way the string is fed into the head is a joke so that will probably be replaced also. But, for the motor, and the way the unit works, it's worth replacing a couple parts and not having to mess with a gas trimmer. It is weird to let go of the trigger and have it be dead quiet and then pull it again and have a trimmer as strong as a gas trimmer. Read full review...

A quiet well balanced string trimmer

I have had this string trimmer for about a month now and I really love it. Because I didn't use it everyday my old gas powered trimmer was always a struggle to get it started. No more mixing gas and oil. no more multiple pulls to get it started. And, best of all, no more ear protection required. This tool is very quiet and with a pull of the trigger I am off trimming and it is well balanced. I was concerned about the weight of the battery but it doesn't seem to be a problem. I use it once a week and I have yet had to charge the battery.Read full review...

Works perfect

Ship on time. Durable, light and easy to handle. Battery last for my whole yard. Highly recommend to those who are tired of dealing with electric or gas operated weed eaters.

I wish that I had bought one earlier.

No more mixed gas, pulling a cord repeatedly, long warm ups, loud engine noise and that exhaust smell that lingers in your clothes all day. I was skeptical at first but wow! This thing cuts through tall grass very easily just using the low setting. Set it on high and it screams with very little effort. The throttle control is very good for feathering the trigger around river rock in order not to toss them as projectiles. Its light weight is also a plus and very user friendly.Read full review...

Not as much run time as you would expect

With the 6ah battery on low, I was able to get 27 minutes on low. On light to medium foliage. The battery is a bit troublesome to put on and remove. I would suggest getting the 20 volt trimmer with the flexvolt battery. I bet that would last quite a bit longer.Read full review...
