It can EAT UP about anything - including batteries but you want power of a gas trimmer, this is it, it's going to require the power to run this heavy duty of a tool... I have 2 OEM and 3 knock off flex batteries, I will be getting another or 3 soon as I can, with 10 acres and arthritis I can't run gas trimmers but this can handle it. Nice and powerful..you'll need at least one dewalt 9ah 60v battery...two batteries is ideal as the power of this weed eater can drain a 9ah battery in 20 minutes if you hold the trigger full blast on high the whole time youbare using it....on low and being stingy with the trigger whenever possible you can get 40+ minutes out of 1 battery...it has plenty of juice in it for a battery powered trimmer...never use a gas trimmer again..got mine for $140 cuz it was an open box but it was in good condition...I did switch the dewaly trimmer head out for the husqvarna t35...it works great and has had no issues at allRead full review

Switched from gas, overall am happy

It spins a little slower than my gas powered weed eater but it feels as if I have more control, plus no more mixing gas. It is also obviously quieter and the rotational acceleration is quicker and feels like it has more power (torque). The guard is also much wider so I don’t get hit as much with debris. Only downsides are really that it is heavier than my gas powered trimmer and less maneuverable. So there are some trade offs but I am overall satisfied. Read full review

As good as Gas

The last 40 years I have used Echo gas powered weed eaters. When I decided to go cordless DeWalt seemed the way to go for obvious reasons. I bought a 20volt folding handle model and was really disappointed. It was heavy on the head end with the motor there. Felt really light duty, like the first corded model I had a long time ago. The only disadvantage with the DCST 972 flex volt is the price of the batteries. It is balanced well and is absolutely bad ass. Feels extremely heavy duty and well designed. I can’t pull start a trimmer any longer. Having a trimmer on a cord is unusable for me. This battery trimmer has been a great choice. Lots of cutting strength! I bought an additional battery so I can do large areas without the delay of a single battery charging. So far, so good. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to get away from a gas powered trimmer. My only question is why is the guard so small? Well worth the $$$

I really like this trimmer, its insanely powerful! The only bad thing about it is the cheap string it comes with. I installed star shaped .95 string and its insane. This thing legit cut down 6' young shoemack trees. I have had no issues with the trimmer or the battery. I have many flexvolt batteries so I never run out however its worth noting the battery doesn't last very long when you just have the 1 battery. I have trimming work to do on over 40 acres so I use an entire battery when I use it. You cant go wrong if you already have dewalt stuff, the batteries and chargers work interchangeably. If I did not have a dewalt system already I would look elsewhere, like ego.Read full review
