RF remote works great
With 2 DirecTV boxes in the same room, one controller has to be RF and the other IR and when my RF remote went bad, tech support send me a replacement but they sent an IR unit, but after 2 more calls to tech support and receiving 2 more IR remotes and even gave them the RF model number. Better than the new and improved remote.
The remote that came with my new DVR was too small and frustrating. I kept turning off the tv when I wanted to see the guide or start recording something I didn't want to. The mute button was poorly placed as well. This remote works fine with my DVR and has the buttons well placed just like the old one I had become accustomed to. Does its job well
We had the old IR type control and fortunately it died so I thought I would try RF and it works better than having to aim the IR perfectly to Chanel’s etc. Glad I moved up to this.

It is a good thing these are cheap.
These remotes are cheap for a reason. They don't last very long. I believe that is why you buy 2 at a time. This is the 3rd time I have had to buy new remotes. The buttons wear out pretty quickly. They are pretty much self explanatory. If you have had a DirecTV receiver for very long, there is not much else to say. They didn't want to set up as RF remotes at first. I had to set them up as IR, then do it again as RF. Other than that, they are what they are, and not much else need be said.Read full review...
