Bette Davis calling a spade a spade
Bette Davis was nothing if not a great judge of material. Handed a great script, she would scale the heights. When landed in - to be blunt - trash, she would pull out the stops and yank it to the level of compulsive viewing, if not exactly high art. This film is just reworking of the "twin kills twin and takes twin's place" trope that Davis had already played in the rather more subdued A Stolen Life. In this film, both twins are thoroughly unpleasant, and Davis delineates between them brilliantly and with surprising subtlety. Utterly ridiculous but full of campy delights, this was worth every cent.Read full review...
