good value for money

i have been using this handheld for a few months now...found all the little quirks of this old pda gadget...once i bought the docking cradle it became very convenient...i got both the serial and usb cradles and as my old dell pc supports the 9pin serial-i chose to use that connection as it would never have another use...the dell axim is fine if you dont need all the latest functions of touchscreen smartphones...this does word dot doc..and its own note format dot pwi-choice of both..its 400mhz processor might seem slow today but its quick enough for the small demand of its programs...these were 300 dollars+ in the US 10 yrs ago...got mine for less than a tenner this year..obviously if you have 2 or 3 hundred pounds to spend you'd purchase a smartphone...many get them on free upgrades and with contracts..i dont have that option..this axim has limitations but for the money i cant critcize it...best value gadget ive ever owned (next to my cheap mobile!)Read full review...

Dell Axim X5 PDA

A very good product, it offers me the opportunity to listen to music, watch videos and also work on the move.
The price affordability and comfort of the purchase coupled with the usual guarantee and protection of ebay makes it all worthwhile and highly recommended.Read full review...

Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC

The Dell Axim X5 is, admittedly, a bit old, but it is still a great tool for anyone seeking to organise themselves. It is easy to use, and has excellent screen clarity, even when under bright light. Very user-friendly, and quite fast (when running Windows Pocket PC 2003).

The only glitch is hard disk space which is minute. However, it does have an SD card slot port to upgrade, as well as a Compact Flash II port. Beware though, the maximum card size it will take is 1GB. Fine for Pocket Word docs, not so good for music, photos, and anything else requiring a lot of hard disk space.

Despite the hard disk issue, it is a good machine, and incredibly useful. It is possible to get Skype Mobile on the machine, and theoretically, when combined with a Wifi card should give a VOIP phone possiblity (it has built in speaker and microphone), although I haven't been able to test this yet.

It is a very handy bit of kit, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a Pocket PC on a budget.

Dell Axim X5 PDA

The unit looks as new, coming from the Dell refurbishment program. It runs on windows 2002 so it works like a dream which is more than you can say for the later Windows CE, So it's a little bigger than your average current iPhone but it's from a different stage of technology and that is no bad thing. It is well made, works well, and the bundled chrome charger base keeps both the unit and its spare battery charged yet looks very smart indeed on the desktop with its blue Dell logo lit in blue. All in all, a brilliant bit of kit for anyone not ready to make the jump to an Android phone, and all at an amazingly low price. (£14.99!) The base unit simply plugs into a free USB input and communicates via the Microsoft Mobile Device software. Even better, it works with Windows 7!Read full review...

A piece of tech walkers simply cant do without!

An absolutely superb piece of tech. I am an avid fell walker and Scottish Munro's. With a GPS and memory map on the SD card this has to be the ultimate GPS handheld. Full 1:50000 or 1:25000 OS maps with track, route marking, electronic compass, altitude,ETA, distance travelled and so much more enable me to leave all those maps at home. With a full battery charge I have well over 12hrs of usage which is probably good for a 10-12 mile walk. You thought the Dell Axim had had its day? I tell you it's only just begun!Read full review...

Reliable

I like the Dell Axim Pocket PC for its capacity and portability. Having added 1GB SD card to it, I have loaded at least ten voluminous e-books and can read them anywhere I am. I am hoping to add some wireless features to it for more operations and connections. Excellent gadget.Read full review...
