Required for class, glad I bought It

In depth analysis of 100 master drawings by Robert Beverly Hale, in regard to light, mass, anatomy and why something works when it's demonstrated with skill and lots and lots of practice. Not a flashy book by any means, but one that will help the serious art student that will take the time to look at and READ each breakdown, understand what's happening, and even copy each drawing (as I was instructed to do by my teacher at the Art Students League in NYC).

Robert Beverly Hale was an instructor at The Art Students League for forty years. This book was first published in 1964, and has not changed since it's first publishing.

This is the 45th Anniversary Edition printed in 2009 with a forward by Jacob Collins who was also a student at the League.

Really. Drawing Lessons From the Great Masters

So insightful. I have no idea how to draw, but this book is so poignant that I really feel the knowledge is being passed on from the great masters.
