Old kit but it works

It's old kit but it does the job I wanted. Setup is difficult due to lack of clear instructions but I have my sip phone up and running and the voice quality is great.

Used (eBay) Draytek Vigor 2600G

Various on-line comments and reviews had indicated that the Draytek range is well regarded especially for firewall strength. I chose the 2600G because they are now readily available on eBay at a small fraction of their price when new.

Pro:
Unless you MUST have wireless-N, the 2600G has all you are ever likely to need in a home/small office ADSL router.

There are too many features to test within the review period offered by eBay, so I have not yet tested the Wireless-G, the USB printer port or the exotic features such as VPN or QoS.

Matching VPN phones and switches can be found on eBay, so you could possibly unite your worldwide family with your own private phone network.

Caveat:
Make sure you get one with the original instruction booklet and if possible the CD. It can be difficult to set up the unit without these. On the CD is a Windows program that guides you through the setup process. If you buying one without any instuctions, ask the seller for the IP address that the unit was set to. As a last resort, set your PC to "discover an IP address automatically" and magically it will discover (as its default gateway) the IP of the routers internal website. You can then set up the unit from your web browser. No windows drivers are needed.

Criticisms:
The "reset to factory settings" button only works if you follow exactly the instructions in the printed booklet. The rest of the written instructions will only work on a reset unit.

Much of the printed booklet is in very small print.

The instructions are also on the CD, but I had problems reading this using the supplied version of Acrobat.

When the unit is wall mounted, all the writing on it is upside down.

Overall, the unit took too long to set up, but it works well once operational.

very reliable

I have owned the wired version of this router for 6 years without problems. I recently needed to go wireless and bought a new router, not a Draytek. It was awful, kept dropping the line. It was returned and I decided to look for the wireless version of the Draytek on eBay. Fortunately, I found one. I have had it for a week now and it hasn't given me any problems at all and cost me far less than the new one did. I would never purchase another make again, great.Read full review...

Fantastic!

I've been using Draytek Wireless Routers for years, in my experience they are robust and reliable. Highly recommended. Packed with features.
