Fantastic pedal, well worth the money.

I purchased this pedal because I was looking for a DI box and a distortion pedal for my bass and I figured that I could cover the two with it.

Having played around with it for a few weeks I have found it to be quite versatile and greatly improves my sound. It sound great as a standard pedal through my amp, where it adds more to the non-distorted sound. It also goes well plugged straight into a PA where you have the option of using your amp as a personal fold back.

The distortion isn't a real dirty/high gain distortion that most modern metal bands like. Saying that, I have been able to get a Cliff Burtonesque sound out of it. Personally I am happy with the distortion this pedal gives and it suits what I play (Metallica, Talking Heads and all things in between), but I can see where others might not like the distortion this pedal has.

Fat EQ boost or crunchy distortion with a distinct growl - this is it!

When I first took this pedal out the packaging I didn't realise that it would be quite as heavy as it was. It feels like a tiny military tank in your palm. Sturdy. It feels expensive.

I was even more blown away when I plugged it into my dirt chain and started playing around! The EQ switch provides a nice boost to fatten up other effects and really bring out any slap I might want to play (especially in a live scenario). The "Color" switch scoops the EQ and gives it loads of bottom body. I didn't originally intend to use the distortion but after having a fiddle it really sounds great. Either on it's own or with other effects it's constantly awesome. Combining it with analogue synths and envelope filters have resulted in some very unique sounds!

If you're in the market for something that's going to add some colour and punctuation to your bass playing; the M80 is professional, affordable and super awesome!

great d.i. but poor distortion

Used it for the first time in a gig, direct in to the mixer (no bass amp) and it sounded great . but i have to admit that i was not to impressed by the distortion

$100 cheaper than the sansamp

Had it for several yrs but was nvr happy w dist I tried the sansamp v1 and I really liked it, but back then the sansamp was $250-ish and I already had this. Even now the sansamp is about $100 more. The color button w eq engaged sounded pretty close to the sansamp so I decided to just keep this. I have the behringer sansamp knockoff too, its not a sansamp but its pretty close. great effects pedal for price

excellent work from Dunlop with the MXR bass DI M80. a wide range of sounds to suit my rig cheers to the guy off ebay who sold it to me, a bargain.
