A great book about money.

This is the basic book on economics. Over the years I have given away dozens of this book. The book isn't full of complicated formulas or unusual vocabulary words.

Every recipient found this tome about the free market to explain how the economy should work.Read full review

decades old insights into what is happening today

This book was written in 1946 but was updated in 1979, still quit awhile ago. Mr. Hazlitt guides the reader through all of the unintended conciquences of government intervention in business and labor. His discussions of the effects of a mandated minimum wage is playing itself out now in many major metro areas on the west coast this year. The war against personal savings by our current artificialy low interest rates are explained years before they came to pass. Subsidies and bail-outs of industries are analized. Our "Great recession" would not have happened if our leaders had read and heeded these lessons.Read full review

The Title Tells It All

The title tells it all -- economics in one lesson. You will learn the basics of economics in language you can understand. It should be required reading.

Great examples of how the human behavior works

If more people had basic knowledge of how economics works, politicians could not lie to people as they do today. This book touches on a lot of day-to-day topics that everyone talks about without understanding anything. If you are willing to read it, you will be able to understand your reality much more and, able, to make the people around you begin to question why things happen the way they do.
Thank you Mr. Hazlitt

Timeless! Basic economic principles, which are not taught in schools today.

No elected official should not be able to take office, without first reading and understanding these basic timeless economic principles! A must read book for all legal voters!

Wow I never bought about it this way

Enlightening. Never thought about how harmful programs intended to do good can in the long run. His points are so logical when they are pointed out just didn't hear them and don't know how to get the broader public to listen to the logicRead full review

Prosperous Economy....Government Initiative or Private Sector Organism?

Written in the late 1940's the content is no less relevant. I like Hazlitt's simplified explanation of economic consequences of government initiatives from taxation to incentives to projects. He emphasizes what the private sector might have done with monies taken through taxation verses what is 'accomplished' by the hand of government.Read full review
