Great Scanner. Poor software
It was not better than expected. It was worth 4 stars
The accompanying software is inferior
So I bought SilverFast and find it very capable
To further refine special photos I use GIMP

A great scanner which does the job
Very pleased with this scanner. I have 1000s of old slides to scan and am finding the process quite easy using the Epson scanner. Delivery was also very quick.

A decent general purpose scanner, if you can find one at a good price.
This is a decent general purpose scanner. It performs well with non-transparent materials. Be aware that it will scan 35mm and 120 (medium format) film, but not to the same quality as a dedicated film scanner; if are primarily interested in scanning film however, look for a dedicated film scanner instead, such as a Nikon Coolscan or a Plustek.
To get the most out of the Epson V600, use third party scanner software such as SilverFast or VueScan. This software can be quite costly, so factor that into your budget.
For Australian buyers, note that these scanners are often VERY over-priced in Australia. The V600 is available for as little as $181 in the USA, so be careful not to pay too much (price from Amazon.com in Aug 2012).
Overall, this is a decent general purpose scanner, if you can find one at a good price; film buffs look elsewhere.Read full review...
