Eric Clapton - Journeyman (never been remastered on CD)

As with all music, much of a critical review is based on personal choice and preference as to what speaks directly to you, the individual. A direct good or bad conclusion cannot be drawn from an expressive art form, however one can say that they love it, or just don't like it.

Journeyman is an album, like the soundtrack to the motion picture Rush, that I prefer over much of Eric's other releases. However, I do not like the entirety of Journeyman. There's a few songs on this album which fit quite nicely with products of other artists, which make quite pleasant compilation discs.
Hey it's just my preference.

One good thing, is that this album has not been 'broken' on a later CD release, as with most remasters. There has been no remaster of this title on CD, but there has been a vinyl remaster.

Average RMS volume over the album is around -15dB, occasionally going a little higher or lower, whilst dynamic range content is pretty good average a DR of 13 over the album average. So, although a pinch louder than I'd prefer (to fit with other earlier 80's CD's) it's not loud by todays standards, and this shows the benefit of not over compressing the music.

The EQ choices are by and large pretty neutral nothing is too brash or too boomy. I would say that on "No Alibis" the drums are mixed a bit too hot, but hey, they were done like that for a reason I guess by those concerned.

Yeah not bad bit of easier, mainstream sounding Clapton, with some nice bluesy licks. Can be a bit of a cherry picking exercise to get the best from it, but not an awful listen as it is.

Grab one and it's going to be the best it can be on CD - it ain't been dynamically smashed by new remastering processes in the loudness war.

the legend is back....

After a lot of pop/rock album Eric God Clapton back to the blues he can play better than anyone other....Brilliant album one of his best. Eric has been in the music for many years but here, without Phil Collins,he's back to his blues style. Best tracks are Pretending, No alibis, Bad love and running on faith.
Very good arrangement it's Hard Times, a wonderful cover from Ray Charles

Eric Clapton - Journeyman

This is a good offering from Eric Clapton and his band. EC's voice just gets better and better, and on this album his guitar playing is more prominent than on recent albums. A worthy batch of songs sung and played with Eric's usual passion and ability. This is definitely one worth considering for your collection. Recommended.Read full review...

I have recently enjoyed reading Eric Claptons autobiography and bought this album as it was made at an eventful time of his life, and gave you an insight into why the various songs were recorded.
