Great Movie! Wildly Entertaining! Highly Recommended!

Good movie! Very addicting! Wild, funny and...very bizarre! I saw it 10 times already and never get bored. Primarily the movies focuses on the 'pros' and the 'cons' on the danger of messing with the human brain. That is the actual idea. Excellent actors and well directed. The story is goofy but who cares. I love it!Read full review...

Not funny

Unfortunately for me, others' reviews led me to believe not only that I would enjoy this movie but that it was worth buying. I've enjoyed some other Carry movies which also served as motivation to buy.

I just could not get interested in "Eternal Sunshine" and, thinking back, I don't recall laughing. The facts are I called it quits before the end.

REMOVING MEMORIES OF SOMEONE... WOULD YOU?

Features Actors:Elijah Wood,Jim Carrey,Kate Winslet,Kirsten Dunst & Tom Wilkinson
Rating: R
Running Time: 108 min.
If you could willingly have the memory of someone removed from your consciousness, would you?

The film tells the story of Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet), two people who casually met, fell in love, and drifted apart. Some time after they've separated, Joel finds out that Clementine visited a local psychiatrist (Tom Wilkinson) and had her memory of their entire relationship erased. Anger, pseudo-revenge, and desperation push him to seek out the same doctor and have the procedure to erase his memories of her as well. Three technicians (Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, and Elijah Wood) visit Joel's apartment and work through the night to remove the memories of Clementine from an unconscious Joel's mind. The remaining bulk of the movie actually takes place in Joel's mind as he suddenly decides he doesn't want to forget Clementine. Unable to wake up, he struggles through literal incarnations of his subconscious realities, his dream worlds, and his memories to hide remnants of Clementine where the technicians can't find them.Sound complicated? While it becomes slightly difficult to follow as the movie pulses along, it steadily becomes clear what's happening inside of Joel's mind. Patience is required as the linear timeline of his memories eventually comes into focus (here's a hint -- keep your eye on Clementine's hair color to track the timeline of their relationship history). Those with a keen mind, an attention to detail, and the desire to unravel character arc mysteries are almost sure to fall in love with 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.'

Would recommend to rent or buy.Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Please click YES at the bottom. :)

Excellent Movie...

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND is an unconventional romance told in the abstract, inventive, and comedic storytelling style of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman. Like his scripts for ADAPTATION and BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, this plot works off of a relatively complex idea that is more easily explained through the language of film than through words. In its most basic description, Joel (Jim Carrey) is undergoing a medical procedure to erase the memory of his ex-girlfriend, Clementine (Kate Winslet). However, while he is unconscious and the procedure is underway, he takes a journey through his mind, reliving moments with Clementine for fear of losing her forever. Using disjointed sound and action, foggy periods indicating Joel's confusion, and flashbacks to childhood where objects appear much bigger than they are to adult eyes, the cinematography communicates Joel's dilemma with visual hilarity. Only occasionally is the film laugh-out-loud funny; instead it is much more deeply and darkly amusing as the absurdity of the situation grows. ETERNAL SUNSHINE is nothing short of brilliant--a credit to director Michel Gondry (who has a topnotch reputation for his aesthetic music videos by artists such as Bjork). Carrey is wonderfully understated in the role of a simpleminded nice guy, and his signature goofiness is used only a handful of times. Winslet lights up the screen with her blue hair and orange sweatshirt, playing a lively free spirit and loose cannon. There are also strong supporting performances by Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood, and Mark Ruffalo, along with an excellent score by Jon Brion and a peppy soundtrack including songs by E.L.O. and the Polyphonic Spree. The film's conclusion promises to satisfy viewers; it offers a beautiful metaphor for the end of a love affair that brings perfect closure to this excellent film.Read full review...

Terrific Movie!! SOLID Cast!

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND is the most twisted, original romantic comedy I've seen in a long time (WE ALL NEED FILMS LIKE THIS ONCE IN A WHILE). Coming from the mind of Charlie Kaufman, this film is luckily more in the vein of BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and ADAPTATION than HUMAN NATURE.
The film, which operates on the premise that people can delete bad relationships from their memories, travels essentially backward down its story's timeline. It examines several key themes regarding compatibility, fate and how our memories can make up who we are.

Jim Carrey, who plays his role of Joel straight rather than wacky, delivers one of his best performances to date . But the movie, thankfully, belongs to Kate Winslet. As Clementine, the girlfriend who Joel wants to either love or forget, Winslet is wacky, colorful and hilarious - the sort of girl you want to either love or strangle.

While their central story plays out mostly within Joel's brain, several equally interesting subplots emerge involving the memory-erasing workers played by Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood and Tom Wilkinson.

The thing I like best about Charlie Kaufman scripts is that I don't always know where they're going but, in the end, they cover all their bases, address all the philosophical questions inherent in their twisted plots and always leave me entertained. ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND is a terrific movie.

Personal Score - SOLID 9 (Your DVD collection will improve with this terrific addition)

Very affordable copy if a favorite movie of mine!

The disc itself arrived in pristine condition. It plays very well. The movie is a favorite of mine. If you would like to see Jim Carrey in a more serious role in a movie about love and loss then this is a good movie for you.Read full review...

Quick review

One of my favorite movies.
Impossible to delineate the weaving of subconscious imagery with non-linear story telling.
Have to see it. Carrey, Dunst, Frodo, Winslet, and Wilkinson at their best. Plus David Cross, who knows no meaning of hierarchy.Read full review...

IF YOU LIKE SPECIAL EFFECTS...

This movie had a lot of really neat special effects. However, if you like good stories about well developed characters, you probably will be left feeling a little disappointed. I did not feel that I really got to know a lot about either Joel or Clementine. They seemed to be more of a catalyst for the makers of the movie to wow you with all the freaky, neat electronic tricks up their sleeves. At the end of the movie, you are left wondering whether the two characters will hook back up. Considering that Clementine "dumped" Joel via memory erasing because she found him boring and left her "feeling pissy all the time", I doubt it. This movie left me feeling pretty much the way I have felt at the end of a not so good relationship; that is to say both angry and sad at the same time.Read full review...

...NO HUCKELBERRY HOUND JOKES...

HERE IS A "SLEEPER" THAT FLEW IN WAY BELOW EVERYBODYS RADAR. I DONT EVEN REMEBER THE RELEASE OF THIS FILM BUT ALMOST 3 YEARS AFTER ITS RELEASE I RAN ACROSS THIS FILM AND FOR SOMEREASON IT SPARKED MY INTEREST.

WACH IT AND BE BLOWN AWAY LIKE I WAS! I AM NOT A FAN OF ANY SORT OF ROMANCE OR ROMANTIC MOVIE, BUT ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND IS LIKE NO OTHER. IT IS LIKE NO OTHER MOVIE FOR THAT MATTER!

A TRUELY UNIQUE FILM JAM-PACKED WITH A STAR STUDDED CAST, SUCH AS: JIM CARREY, KATE WINSLET, KIRSTEN DUNST, MARK RUFFALO, AND ELIJAH WOOD MAKE THIS FLICK A DEFFINATE MUST SEE, OR FOR THE MOVIE COLLECTOR; A MUST OWN!

P.S. I WILL GIVE THE VIEWER WHO HAS NEVER SEEN THIS MOVIE BEFORE A CLUE (WITHOUT GIVING THE MOVIE AWAY OF COURSE): KEEP TRACK OF KATE MINSLET'S HAIR COLOR THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE. THAT SAID, IT WILL MAKE "PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHER" MUCH EASYER.
