I bought this album on CD format to replace my worn out tape version won at my local pop quiz raffle in 1996. This was one of my favourite albums of the mid 1990s when Britpop was at its height and the sound is as immediate,full of conviction and as questioning as it was back in those halcyon days when "cool Britannia" still ruled and music counted for something other than corporate with a capital "C" or identikit plastic popsters gleaned from reality shows or media hype. I love everything about this set from the uplifting "Girl Who Wanted to be God" to the anthemic choruses of "Everthing Must Go", "Australia" and "Design for Life" and the haunting,cynical and sometimes bitter overtones eveident in "Elvis Impersonator" and "Small Black Flowers" (allegedly referenced to the band's missing member Richey Edwards). I know opinions have changed in the advancing years and some will beg to differ and call me biased (I am Welsh and used to see singer James Dean Bradfield around a lot) but it is and will always be for me one of the all time classics.Read full review...

Great!

This is an amzing album....combination of the Manics current sound and the style they took on when superb lyricist Richey was still on board.
Highlights of the album are "Small black flowers that grow in the sky" which is one of their best songs and some of Richey` best lyrics. "A design for life" which is obviously one of their classic songs and alos "kevin carter" and "Elvis impersonator blackpool pier"

The Manics At Their Best!

There isn't one song on this CD that I don't like. A Design For Life, Kevin Carter, Everthing Must Go, Australia....need I say more. Without a shadow of a doubt one of the best investments I have made & one of the best Manics CD's to date.Read full review...

Manics

I would say that this is one of the Manics best albums. The first one after Richey disappeared. It features the last songs wrote by him, the pick being Kevin Carter.

If you haven't got this album, I would say take a chance and pick it up as a bargain, loads of sing-a-long tunes!Read full review...

Everything is great!

A classic Manics album, in my opinion one of their best. Bought this to complete collection of albums, haven't stopped listening to it yet!

This was the Bands next album after the dissapearence of their friend and bandmate Richey Edwards, packed with emotion and haunting lyrics this is a Manics Classic! The band went a bit too commercial after this one.Read full review...

this cd has a lot of really good song it i lost my copy of it to a friend he must have felt the same as me as he never returned it so another copy had to be purchased good songs good memories good cd

Fantastic album.The Manics are amazing.Every song on this album is incredible with Everything must go being my personal favourite.Recommended!!
