Is a retro must have!

The Nintendo Family Computer (or Famicom for short) is a video game console made by Nintendo and sold in Japan starting in 1983. The Nintendo Entertainment System, which Nintendo sold outside Japan a couple years later, is nearly identical in behavior with a few changes in the cords, controllers, system look. While the Famicom was made to look friendly and well matched for a Japanese household with bright colors, the NES was made to look like the "future" to get it into the homes of Americans who had been burned by the crash of the second-generation consoles in 1983-1984.

Differences from NES

Input:
-On the original Famicom, the controller 2 has no Select and Start buttons but it has a microphone. It can be used on some games like Zelda.
-There is a 15-pin expansion port. The light gun and other specialty controllers connect to this instead.
-It can be connected with the Famicom Disk System and read games from a special Floopy Disk

Output:
-The Famicom had only RF output, not the yellow and red AV output seen on the side of the front-loading NES.
- The Famicom is NTSC
The Famicom audio path goes through the cassette, allowing boards to mix the console's audio with that from a synthesizer chip.

Other:
Since the Famicom was sold mostly in Japan. All the compatible games are in japannese, but there are a lot of games that can be played anyways.

Great find!

I usually like to support local shops for goodies like this but a Famicom bundled with a Disk System was something not easy to find in the states. The Famicom works great. The Disk System however is throwing up a few errors. I am troubleshooting it currently. It will be a cheap fix so either way this was a great deal!Read full review...

Great console, as if you need me to tell you that.

The FC, if you played NES in the day, is a great way to find some new titles with that good old feel and style. You could just buy an adapter if you were only interested in some of the Japanese titles and versions, though for hardware purists and collectors this is a must. It is important to note: only use a FC power adapter, this system runs on less amperage than an NES; if you use an NES AC adapter you will fry your famicom!!!! Also, you will need to set your tv to channel 95, not 3. Only complaint I have ever had about this system is the hardwired controllers. They are not easily replaced if broken, and the cords are only about three feet. If you’re considering buying the Famicom, I would suggest doing it sooner than later. They will be harder to find every day that you wait.

Mod this Console for a great Famicom experience!

I had this imported into the UK and then sent it off for modification. I had installed the NES RGB mod and I will state that the graphics look truly fantastic! (Note, once the NES RGB mod is installed, you lose the ability to use the Ejector slider)
The console and the cartridges I think are so much better looking than the NES system that Europe and America got. Plus, Famicom games are cheaper too in some cases.
Of course the downside is that the controller cords are very shortly, approximately 70cm in length. So you will need to get a long video cable to go from the Console to you TV for playing, or you could modify the cables and make them longer.

Great console, highly recommend it over the NES.

Good value for as-is Famicom consoles (for parts or repair)

These were listed as Junk, meaning as-is condition Famicom consoles. The graphics and quality are great for that item.
I was able to get one fully working and cleaned, the other has a bad chip that I will replace. They are exactly what I was expecting and I am very satisfied with my purchase. The description was very accurate!
Photos are the original listing and the working console AFTER cleaning and restoration.

Item arrived safe and sound, sooner than expected, haven't been able to test the power supply since I live in the US but the Famicom is working as I have an alternative power supply to use for it.

I like Nintendo

The Famicom is good for Nintendo fans, collectors, or people who want to just play good games, even if most of them are in Japanese. Mine works great btw!

the console wars have been won

Greatest console i've ever owned, great replay value on the games but the DLC has been a bit slow recently.
