Electric percolator makes hot coffee!

This electric coffee pot makes a hot pot of coffee quickly and keeps it hot after perking. Perking time depends on how many cups you make - a nice feature. It has a short cord -- you could acquire a longer extension cord but it would have to be a "heavy duty" according to the manufacturer instructions (which comes with the pot). The percolator basket (where you put the coffee grounds) was slightly out of round but this did not interfere with operation (the "spreader" still fit well into the basket). The carton had some damage but the product info said it had been inspected. No apparent damage to the product. Carton damage yielded a hefty and attractive 60% discount off list price.Read full review...

Great cup of coffee, but quality concerns

I have never enjoyed a cup of coffee more from any other "brewed-at-home" coffee maker! I purchased this to replace my Keurig - absolutely no comparison!!! The coffee has a great flavor and is not at all weak - I put in one scoop of coffee for each cup I make. I leave the percolator plugged in all morning until I pour my last cup, and the coffee comes out PIPING hot with each serving.

It's extremely easy to use and clean - only 4+/- parts!

The reason for the 3 instead of 5 stars: I just received this Percolator, haven't even used it a 1/2 dozen times, and the screw that holds in the handle is already rusted beyond belief! NOTE: I did not submerge the exterior of the pot in water. Why would the manufacturer not use rust-proof screws in their coffee pots that will likely get wet during cleaning? I have concerns about the quality of this percolator, and what will happen with the rest of the parts after continued use.

The way coffee was meant to be.

Awhile back I began searching for a more convenient way to brew my morning coffee than the Chemex pour over manual brewer I normally use. The Chemex makes a wonderful, full flavored and rich cup of coffee, but the glass carafe does not do a good job keeping the coffee hot. And, I really don't want to transfer the coffee to a thermos, as this adds an extra step, and an additional piece of equipment to clean. Auto drip coffee makers just don't do a really good job of brewing coffee due to the fact that they don't brew at the optimum 195-205 degrees. What was I to do?

I had looked into percolators for some time, but was reluctant to buy one because of all the negative information out there concerning the resulting brew from a percolator. "Percolators are the worst possible way to make coffee"; "Percolators boil the coffee through the grounds repeatedly, destroying all the flavor and causing the brew to be bitter". These are just an example of the comments I found on percolators. They seem to violate all the rules of making good coffee.

Yet, I remembered the smell of percolating coffee from my childhood; from the days before my mother bought her first Mr. Coffee machine. And all the reviews I read on percolators indicated that they made wonderful coffee. And these reviews were, for the most part, from people who had switched from auto drip coffee makers. I, too, had grown frustrated with these flimsy plastic machines over the years, but what could I do? Percolators make bad coffee; or so I was led to believe by all the "coffee experts".

I finally broke down and bought a Farberware 8 cup percolator, and conducted some fairly thorough tests on it before coming to any conclusions. The Farberware heats the water to a perfect 200 degrees, and it brews fast. Using a grind slightly more coarse than auto drip, the resulting brew was very rich and full flavored. It wasn't quite as complex as the brew from a presspot, but it was far better than anything I had made using any other method of brewing. All the experts were wrong!

Farberware's line of percolators brew at "cup a minute speed". This is on par with the best quality drip mahcines, and better than the low end ones. This percolator will keep the coffee hot without scorching it like auto drip machines, nor will it become stale as quickly. The coffee is piping hot, rich, robust, and NOT bitter. Using the Melitta 3 1/2" disc filters helps to significantly reduce the possibility of getting fine particles into the coffee. Another plus for Farberware's percolators is that you can replace the heating elements if they burn out. These heating elements are available through Marbeck Appliance, Goodman's, and other online retailers of small appliances, and are a fraction of the price of a new percolator. I have also found that a high quality grinder makes a dramatic difference in the final brew. With a blade grinder, the brew is okay; with a good conical burr grinder, the coffee is complex in flavor and intensity, rich and robust. If you get this percolator, look to investing in a good grinder. And then, don't look back.

Good value and makes great coffee, but no longer American made.

I bought this percolator because a friend had an older model that works great and has "Made in USA" stamped on the bottom.....which is what helped sell me on it. The newer ones work great too but have "Made in China" stamped on them, which was disappointing. Still makes great coffee like the old one; an auto shut-off is the only feature that I'd like to see added. I'll keep searching for U.S. made products.Read full review...

Overall, this is a good product. See the below review.

This product was purchased to replace a similar, larger percolator from another manufacturer, that, after a year and a half, quit working. I have used this product for a short time, and even though, as stated, overall it is a good product, there are a few things that caused me to set it aside as a spare, and go back to Gevalia and their coffee maker. The percolator is advertised a super-fast brewing product, and I think that might be part of the problem. The design of the basket doesn't allow for the rapid flow-thru of the coffee during the brewing process, and alot of grounds end up on the outside of the basket. Sometimes, not as much as other times. There willl normally be some grounds at the bottom of the percolator, and even though the first cup might not have grounds in it, as a norm, some of the subsequent cups will. The persolator that it replaced, Cuisanart(spelling ?) never had that problem, and the basket design was much different, and it brewed at a slower speed.Read full review...

The Best Percolator You Can Buy

This replaced an identical percolator which my mother purchased around 1970. Although this new one was made in China instead of the USA, the quality seems the same as the 1970 USA unit which lasted 50 years. This new one has functioned perfectly for two weeks now and I don't think that my wife and I will outlast it - highly recommend!Read full review...

Excellent Coffee

This type of coffee pot make coffee taste better that the regular "drip-o-later" type. The taste will sell you on the first cup. I was introduced tot his by a friend and will never go back to the old style. The "K" cup method is way too expensive.Read full review...
