A very nice camera/recorder

The flu cam/recorder cane very quickly and in good shape pe. We really do not know if it is easy to use. We are in our 80's and the print is very small. We want to use it to record my husbands life history and I want to
take photos of art work. We will figure it out. Thank you.

Best HD Camcorder for under $200

What I like best about the Flip Mino HD is that it is as simple and convenient as I can imagine to take excellent HD video. Carrying it around is easy. Turning it on, pointing, and clicking to start taking video is easy. Charging it is easy (just flip out the USB plug and stick it into the USB port on any PC - no cables to hassle or lose). Transferring the videos you take to your PC is easy (same as charging it). It even takes great video with great sound in most average or even dim light conditions. It even has a tripod mount on the bottom, and I'd recommend using it when possible, because with HD, high quality video, jitter is more noticeable.

The price of simplicity is, of course, that it lacks bells and whistles. No optical zoom. No fancy effects. No titling. No stereo sound. No big deal, if you ask me, unless you're doing professional shots.

So if you don't mind giving up advanced features in exchange for simple, great video from an inexpensive, convenient package you can keep in your pocket (just keep it in the nice protective velvet sleeve it comes with), I heartily recommend the Flip Mino HD. I use it more often than my more expensive camcorder, and I suspect you will too.

EASY & Great for the $$

Very easy to use. I bought it for my 8yr old. Out of all the Flip camcorders, a rechargeable battery is a must have!! I think the Mino and the UltraHD are the only ones with rechargeable batteries. We tried a Flip that was a 30 min camcorder and the batteries were used up in 2 uses. This model is 60 min which seems to be plenty of time. It's expecially great for the spare of the moment thing. Those videos are more fun to watch too. One drawback is that there is no light to use at night. It does however do ok in low light, but works best in natural light. We also tried the Sony Webbie and I feel this Flip has a better quality picture. The Flip also has software built in that you can take a snapshot from the video. The pic is not great quality, but nonetheless it's nice to have that option and it's fine for the internet.Read full review...

Crystal clear!

This sleek little gadget is perfect for capturing HD quality video anywhere but underwater. I've taken it to a few concerts to record things. Opposed to a cell phone or digital camera video, the sound is FAR less distorted. Have you ever gotten great video but garbled sound because of too much bass, crowd noise, etc.? This is the answer. About the size of a cell phone, it's discreet enough to carry in your pocket. It does have a tell tale red light just as any other recording device. I love the fact that it charges via USB port. Granted it takes about 3 hours to charge for only one hour of recordable footage which seems odd, but I'm willing to look past. At times it's as if it recharges itself. I've used almost half my time in one spell, came back a few hours later, and had 3/4ths battery life. Cool! Easy as cake to use. File lock so you don't accidentally erase any good moments. Very nice safety feature. Software is inside the cam, no CD/DVD install to fuss with. It's like a little best friend that remembers everything for you.
I haven't bothered to plug it directly into my TV or burn any video to DVD yet. I also haven't read the instruction manual. I'm a typical guy. Don't let that hold you back from enjoying this item.

2nd Generation Flip Mino HD Review!

The camcorder itself gives out very good quality at it's price range. Recording at 720p at 30 frames per second, things look pretty good. Well, until you get into low light situations (Indoors, dark outside, etc.) The picture quality starts to degrade at that point, but not horribly (Well, unless its REALLY dark out). You get some "noise" at that point, the picture starts to become fuzzy and it's just not that pretty to look at. Another thing that you might want to be aware of is that it has no image stabilization. So if you have shaky hands (like me!) the video can be quite...well, shaky! Luckily, if you have a video editing program that has an image stabilization effect you can apply to your videos, it won't really be a problem. Otherwise, it would probably be a good idea to buy a small tripod for it!

The software that comes INSIDE the camcorder (no CDs here!) is a very basic video editing software. It allows you to view, trim, snap a photo, email, create a DVD and upload your videos to the internet in a few clicks. It might be nice for people who want to quickly edit and upload their videos to youtube. The 2nd generation Mino HDs also have a mini-HDMI to HDMI port on the bottom. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with this cord, so you'll have to buy one on your own time. There are no cords that come with them either, you simply connect it from a USB connector from the top of the camcorder. It pops out like a switch-blade, I think it's pretty neat :)

The controls on the back of the camera are touch sensitive and seem to be very responsive. Also, I'm not sure if this option comes with other Flip video cameras but you can choose to turn the recording light off on the 2nd Generation Mino HDs. I've heard some people complain about the light, so I thought I should throw that in there. All in all, I'd say the camera is pretty darn good. You may not get Hollywood type movies but it'll be pretty close!

Super easy to use

I bought this cam-corder on the recommendation of a friend and i was not disappointed. Super easy to use, great picture quality, very portable, fast star up and very lightweight. No external cables nor memory cards make for a small package.
My only complaint, if really even that, is that unlike a standard digital camera, the unit cannot be used to play videos on a UK television as its factory set to NTSC ( the UK uses PAL )and while this is not a great problem, it would be nice to play the movies through a television when i am there.
All in all, a great boys toy.

FLIP ULTRA HD; Great Mini Camcorder

The second generation FLIP Ultra was a great camcorder. You could keep it in your pocket ready to record any spontaneous moment and forget it's there. But the standard definition 480 line resolution lacked the visual punch of today's high definition world. The Ultra is almost identical to the Flip Mino, but it's bigger. Why buy bigger? First, there's the recessed lens that blocks sun glare better than the Mino. A few extra features like an HDMI connector and replaceable battery pack make it more usable. Perhaps the biggest reason for the Ultra over the Mino is the underwater housing. It's made specifically for the Ultra, and it won't work with the Mino.

The new FLIP Ultra HD shoots in high definition video mode at 720 lines (vs 480 for the non HD Flip). Although 720 is not full 1080 HD, the image is very clean and sharp, especially outdoors. The video is widescreen mode only, and fills the screen on a high definition TV. As the light level becomes lower, the image still retains a good deal of quality and does not get grainy until light levels become very low.

There are no manual over rides on any of the camcorder's white balance, exposure, focus, scene mode or audio. This is the most basic point and shoot camcorder. From three feet to infinity, the image is always in focus. The color is accurate under almost any lighting so you really don't need manual control. Back lighting can be a problem, so you need to frame your shots to avoid back lighting whenever possible.

If there's a weak link of this camcorder, it's keeping the image steady. There is no image stabilizer. The camera shoots 30 frames per second in progressive mode. The nature of progressive mode tends to make any image look jittery during pans or fast motion. Because of it's tiny size, you need to learn to hold this camera rock steady with both hands when you shoot, and pan very slowly.

The Ultra lacks any optical zoom like all previous Ultras. The digital zoom is nearly useless as it just magnifies the pixel size, losing sharpness as you zoom. You are limited to one hour on the internal memory, and two hours on the internal battery. The memory and the battery are not user removable. However, the built in USB plug lets you charge the camcorder on any computer as well as transfer the files to the hard drive.

Audio is very crisp and clear. Loud sounds are automatically lowered to prevent distortion. There isn't much bottom end (bass frequencies) to the audio, but this is an advantage when recording voices in a noisy environment as it prevents rumble from wind, traffic, etc. There are no audio inputs or headphone outputs. The audio/video connector that connects the Flip to a TV is only standard definition.

In order to view the video in high definition, you'll need to view it on a computer or copy it to a Blu Ray disk. A standard DVD is only 480 lines and is not high definition. But standard DVD's made from the Flip Mino HD look as good as the DVD format can deliver.

Yes, the Ultra HD has limitations. But not many high def camcorders fit in a small pocket or purse so well. The best camcorder is the one you have with you, and the Mino can be with you all the time. For it's intended purpose, casual video, it's an excellent camcorder. By learning it's strong and weak points, and with a little practice, a capable user can create some pretty fantastic videos with a Flip Ultra HD. I used it to create a music video and a wedding video.

best camera ever

I bought 2 Digital Flip MinoHD, 60 min. once i got them my wife and i fall in love with it. its perfect size makes you take them with you every where and you dont have to worry about where to put it, because it fits on your pocket. they are so easy to use that you don't need a 100 page manual to understand how it works. easy to record with a press of a button, even when you erase a clip you don't like. the only thing i don't like it's that it doesn't have a light so you can use it on the night, only where is light. other then that it has a good video quality and the fact the you can hook it up to your TV and watch the videos. the usb makes it easy to put it in your computer that you don't need a geek or special software to install it. i hightly recomend it you don't have to spend hundreds for a good camera and so hard to use.Read full review...

This is a good one!

Well, I won't say this is the best mini camcorder out there, but this isn't the worst one either. It is really good in it's looks - it is sleek and small and easy to carry around. The keys and operations are pretty simple and easy to understand as well. The picture and sound quality can be improved, but for this price, it is indeed a real good deal. You can take it to parties or quick meet-ups and take short videos quickly.Read full review...

PURE Digital Flip MinoHD, 60 Minutes

If you've wanted to be an amateur filmmaker or artistic imagery or of family events, and you have instead constantly forgotten your camcorder, or use it seldom, this is the product for you!! You can bring this with you EVERYWHERE as it fits easily and comfortably in a purse or pocket, and you will be rapidly able to whip it out and film anything and everything!! The picture quality is excellent, HD quality, and the editing software that comes with the flip is SUPER easy for even grandmas to use to cut excess footage, move one clip before or after another, insert transitions between clips that allow you to fade in and out of scenes with professional quality by just clicking on a clip, inserting a transition before or after it from the menu, and then watching the seamless transition!! You can burn DVD's with menus and all! It also works well with Windows Movie Maker (or imovie), which is easy to use software that comes with laptops or pcs. I HIGHLY recommend this product!Read full review...

Good for the price

Very nice point and shoot HD camera. Slips perfectly into a pocket. Software is easy to use, and it is easy to upload films to the internet. Good resolution for the price. Very lightweight (easy to transport but makes it feel kind of flimsy). The plastic scratches easily, but this does not affect the performance of the camera. Also, the lens is not protected, so I see how it could get scratched if it is stuffed into a back pocket or in a bag without protection. Overall, a very nice camera that can fit into a pocket!Read full review...
