Great Item for the Price!
This detector works! Almost too good. I live in a house a few miles away from the Antietam Battlefield and my yard is FULL of stuff from the last 200 years. This metal detector is so good it detects lead glazes on pottery shards and we have tons of them. I have found multiple things so far but I am still trying to figure out how to use it to only detect particular metals and how to pinpoint exact locations. I didn't want to spend a lot of money for a first detector but wanted something that I knew would actually work well. This works and is pretty fun to use. My ONLY complaint is that you can not turn down the beeping sounds the detector makes and when I wear headphones with it I have to keep the headphones around my neck due to the really loud beeps. Otherwise, this is a great detector. I can see how more expensive ones give the detector-ist more info as to what is in the ground and how that would save some digging and labor. Would recommend the Garrett 250 to any one looking for a fairly inexpensive but highly functioning detector. Some people found a musket down the road worth thousands of dollars. Garrett Ace 250 was easy to assemble and adjust for length. I like the fact it utilizes 4 "AA" batteries rather than 2 (9 volt) batteries as do other Brand Name units. I have over 60 personal detectors and have been using Garrett Detectors for over 35 years and this one is a very good with targets and what they may be, the depth meter gauge is precise and it seems to be built really good. I also like the underwater feature of 10 feet as this is a light weight detector and it saves me from getting my heavier underwater detectors out when I just decide to use my face mask and stay within the 10 foot range. Read directions on using this metal detector - Put a quarter down on my basement floor and it seems to pick it up quite nicely with a ping and it even says on the screen it's a quarter, which it is. Took it out in my yard and I'm getting quite a number of pings in different locations - Very hot out so I'm going to dig when the weather cools down a bit. Great entry level detector
I'm a newbie but this detector has a easy learning curve. Very sensitive, even with the sensitivity set to just 2 marks it still found a very small rusted paper staple (not clip) @ 2 inches!!! At first I thought it was a false reading but I just wasn't looking good enough thru the dirt I dug up. Coins shouldn't be any problem! Easy to learn and use.
