Engrossing and entertaining

George Gently lives up to his name - he is astute, observant and goes about solving the crimes/ mysteries gently and unassumingly. He has depth of character and there are hints of a wide life experience. I was interested to see that some of the first episodes dealt with social issues which would have been controversial int he early 1960's.
