Convenient Streamer for your devices

The new Chromecast online is rumored to work without wifi to stream peer-to-peer from your Android phone to your TV. This is not the case.
I purchased the new Chromecast already owning an old Chromecast because I travel a lot and am not able to connect to Hotel wifi through the Chromecast so I was hoping to stream directly.
Also, I like streaming media files like .mkv and .mp4 from my phone to the device. A third party file explorer app must be used to do this as the Chromecast app does not have native support. The app does allow you to stream YouTube and mirror your Android phone screen which is great!

Poor performance with spotify

It is easy to set up and audio quality is great. However, there are many problems while playing spotify. It sometimes skips songs, it fails to skip songs when I touch the skip button, sometimes i have to reset the chromecast audio device for it to start responding again. Poor performance, I'm not impressed.Read full review...

Still a Few Warts, But Performs Better Than Apple's AirPlay

I would give this unit 5 stars if the directions for setup (especially online) were up to date and agreed with the reality of the device itself. Also, I was about to give it a poor rating because I could not get it to cast TuneIn Radio, my favorite source of streaming stations. But, then, in some arcane location, I saw a note about updating the firmware, and that worked...well, almost perfectly. Again, the directions for updating were not quite up to date with reality, but I figured that one out. And, as for TuneIn Radio, I find that, with all my iOS devices, I have to try to cast a station and receive an error message that the stream is not compatible, and then I have to dismiss the TuneIn app (flick it up off the screen), and restart it, and then it works. This is consistent behavior. I don's know why it happens. Once I get things rolling, there is no interruption (for hours of play) such as I experience with AirPlay (using the AirEnabler dongle), so this is now my preferred device, despite some minor warts. I hope that Google will work out the kinks in future updates.Read full review...

DAC/Headphone-Integrated Amps are the general solution

DAC/Headphone Amps are the general solution, but this item is a Sonos killer. I used existing AV, HiFi, and radios to multicast audio to my home.

Google (and Amazon) put their digital streaming products on sale as "multi-pack" offerings.

Watch for the Black Friday sales and offers.

When you purchase a used item like this, you can not get any warranty repair or take advantage of any Google Play Store offers that would go along with the item.

For travel, auto, and home headphone listening I will use a dedicated DAC/Headphone amp, which is still compatible with iTunes, Google Play, and my own collection of streaming music.

Expect the price of Chromecast Audio hardware to drop in order to compete with the multitude of new 2016 DAC offerings coming from Asia.

Keep in mind that the Cast App and even Google Play Music doesn't even yet offer an equalizer-compressor-dsp software module (either in Chromecast Audio hardware or smartphone Google Cast software) to improve on the audio quality. MSFT PC's have been doing this for years. Go figure :(

This is truly a good time to be getting into digital audio. Global capitalism is providing the consumer many, many good choices :)

Out the door $30 for a new CCA, and even less in multi-packs :)

But don't forget to look at other offerings such as the SMSL Audio M3, and all the new 2016-17 offerings hitting the street now.

I think we're probably due for a CCA upgrade, Version 2.0 of Chromecast Audio, not unlike the Chromecast Video product updates we've seen ;)

I hope connectivity will improve

I was hoping that streaming audio from my NAS would be an easy task, It works great with Deezer, I can shutdown the app while listening to a radio station, and chromecast will keep playing, that's nice.

it is a great product for easy tasks, but I really want to see some improvement on connectivity, streaming from my Mac is complicated too, but my number one requirement is to play music form my NAS drive.

Good product. Need some improvements

As a whole, it is a very easy-to-use and great-quality product in a very cheap price, but it still has delays, and still limits you to google products (or 3rd party plugins for chrome) only. There are things that bugs me like when you cast a youtube video, it limits the screen size such that you cannot go full-screen mode. Also the user cannot set a manual audio-casting delay in order to fix the video-audio delay.
But overall it is a good product for a cheap price.

nice easy way to "smart"en up old speakers

Great little product, shame Google discontinued. I've got 2 now in my home. They are such an easy way to turn an extra set of speakers into a smart appliance!

I have a set of in-wall speakers in my kitchen that weren't getting much use. So I bought a cheap motorboat amplifier to drive the speakers and then a Google Chromecast Audio to connect to the amp. Now I can cast music to these old speakers!

I also had an old set of PC speakers and subwoofer in my garage with no computer. Put another Chromecast Audio there, and I can do the same.

The best value in audio streaming devices

The Chromecast Audio is an amazing value. It has very good sound quality (depending on the source) and is easy to use with compatible streaming apps. The wifi range is seems quite good. Using one of these in each room you can stream the same music all over your house, if you wish. You can do what you can with Sonos, but for much less money, and with more flexibility. The only improvement I would suggest would be to have the power and output cables on the same side of the device to simplify placement of the cables. Or even a combined power/output cable that splits into output and power cables a foot or so from the end. That's a minor quibble though.Read full review...

Great product and value

I love my Chromecast Audio streamer! I own a Chromecast video streamer, which required me to use my TV to stream music through my audio visual receiver. I could not stream music directly from my mobile phone or tablet music apps directly to my receiver before. Now I have this capability, and I love it. I bought this device when I heard Google discontinued them.

The Chromecast Audio connects to a receiver via a 3.5mm headphone jack, which my Sony receiver did not contain. To solve this, I bought a quality gold plated 3.5mm female to RCA male stereo audio Y cable adapter. The sound quality is very good and I have the flexibility I wanted. When you first plug the Chromecast Audio Streamer into a power outlet and into your output device, you should be able to see it in your Google Home application and move it to your defined virtual "room". When you want to stream, you click the cast icon from your music app, which then prompts you for the device to stream to (i.e. your TV, receiver, etc.). It's very easy to use. Chromecast Audio emits a sound when you begin streaming to it to let you know that it received your instruction.

Great Chromecast Audio device

I had to reboot my router after my first attempt to set this up, but after that it was a piece of cake. Works great. I used it to hook up a set of Harmon Kardon speakers to my Google Home app to be able to play music wirelessly. The instructions with this one were in Chinese, but it's easy enough to Google the setup.Read full review...

Absolutely trivial to setup. Works like a charm.

We have a set of powered speakers in the living room and my wife would set up something to listen to on her phone and plug it in. So the phone was always across the house from her whenever she needed it or someone sent a text.

After being blown away at how awesome the Chromecast device was for our TV, we snagged this Chromecast Audio for the living room. It's so simple to setup that anyone could do it. Now my wife just casts her music or podcasts to the speakers and keeps her phone in her pocket.

It sounds just fine. Since it uses Wi-Fi, the music is not interrupted by text of phone calls (as they are with BlueTooth speakers). It's just perfect and simple.
