Guild Wars is a solid online RPG

I've been playing Guild Wars for something like 5 years now, and I can say that it's definitely one of the most solid online RPG games out there. I remember back in 2005, looking at this game and thinking "Oh... Guild Wars... that sounds cliche" and never giving it a second look. Well after playing a free 14 hour trial, my mind was changed.

This game was made by a bunch of developers who worked on Blizzard's Diablo franchise, and you can tell the influences right away. If you're sick and tired of World of Warcraft and want a change of pace, this is definitely something you can get into.

Pros:
1. Hundreds of skill combinations, class combinations, and strategies. It's almost "magic the gathering" in the amount of skills.

2. Festival events. Every christmas, thanksgiving, and much more there are in-game holiday events with prizes, quests, and bonuses. It's really fun!

3. Perfectly set for 8-person groups. Questing and PvP are truly unique and awesome experiences for Guilds and groups of your friends. It's almost a tactical experience, in the way each person fills their role and helps eachother.

Cons:

1. Most areas except towns are "Instanced" so that means you are your group have a private copy of the world to romp around in. This means no griefers, loot stealing, and so forth... but it can also be quite lonely.

2. Not very solo-able. Guild Wars has heroes or "mercs" that you can hire for free to aid you in questing/hunting/etc ... however in high-end areas, you will get stomped over and over without a full fledged group of living breathing people. Not a very easy game to solo, if that's what you're looking for.

3. No more development. There will be no more expansions for Guild Wars, as they have recently announced "Guild Wars 2" ... Most people are filling their "Hall of Monuments" with achievements, so that it will transfer over to Guild Wars 2. In a year or so when Guild Wars 2 comes out, your characters will not transfer over. Guild Wars staff still do Festival Events and parties, and the occasional costume purchase in the store... but for the most part, Guild Wars is being left to run its course until Guild Wars 2 ships.

Awesome gameplay, graphics, and free online play!

Everything is great about this game. Start with the fact that the online account and play is completely free. The graphics are incredible and the quests are challenging. It is easy to learn and get into without having read a lot of the manual or memorize cryptic commands. The camera view control using the right mouse button is a nice feature. This game is similar to the Dungeon Siege games though I played all of those offline. I highly recommend Guild Wars.Read full review...

I love this game. Doesn't need much to run really well.

The graphics are amazing considering it was released in the early 2000s and it doesn't take a lot of computer power to run it. Although good internet is crucial so your FPS [frames/second] doesn't get so bad it appears you're teleporting. I bought the game because my boyfriend had it, and it's fun to play RPGs with people you know from around the corner.Read full review...

Awesome Game, not to be missed.

There are lots of fantasy RPG's, on one hand this game sticks to the blueprint, large world to roam and explore, tons of quests and things to collect, but there are elements in this game that really make the game special. First it has a story line, lots of online RPG's do not. Second, the graphics are top-notch, although the boot up time for the game is seconds. Third, is the lack of fees. Why should I have to pay for a game I already bought? Exactly. Fourth is the lack of a big leveling system. The max level in this game is 20, so no more repetitive mindless fighting to get to that next level. I recommend this game to anyone who likes RPG's, action games, or honestly any kind of gaming, it's that good.Read full review...

Fabulous Free Online Play

I have this for myself and my kids enjoy it so I decided to get a copy for them so we can play together. When finishing a mission it plays a cut scene that explains the story line...my kids won't let me skip through them. There is so much to explore and do you never get board with it. I like that this edition comes with a few upgrades as well. It really helps to have decent weapons and a permanent help with the Fire Imp when you're a low level. This is a Great game and great fun!Read full review...
