The Hp Officejet Pro 8600 Plus is an excellent printer. All of the ink cartridges were already installed and printer was ready to use. The manual and cables were included with the printer. With a few connections and some minor setups the printer was ready to use.Read full review...

Good value. Prints great. Was hardly used.

Print and scan function was great. Can't get fax to work. Keeps saying fax was disabled at set up.

HP does it again- - - - (whether in a good way or bad, only time will tell)

After much research, we chose the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus model as replacement for our existing OJ Pro L7590 printers. So far we're very satisfied with their performance, but a few things did come as a surprise;

1) Part of why chosen was to get away from some of the past issues we've had with separate cartridge and printhead systems- there was no 'specific' mention ever found but the supply listings for 8600 models do not list any printheads, only cartridges, nor were printheads mentioned in any reviews on the web, but one quick look at a cartridge when installing tells you that the printhead is separate, and apparrently is now a fixed component of the carriage, so hopefully this will not turn out to be a troublesome feature. This does also raise question about the higher ink cartridge cost when the most sensitive and complex component, the printhead, is not integrated with the cartridge itself.

2) Then there's the paper tray, more aptly "drawer" in this case. While being more enclosed may be a benefit to less dust intrusion, we've quickly found it could really have benefitted by at least having a small, clear, 'viewing window' where you could see the paper level without need to pull out the drawer, and equally is a bit inconvenient for those times you need to print just a page or two using different stock. It has not so far proven to make any improvement to the paper-pick roller sometimes slipping and getting a false 'out of paper' error; in fact often having had to remove/shuffle stock/replace the drawer multiple times so far. The 250 sheet capacity, too, has been troublesome, being far more reliable in paper feed if only filled to about 150 pg. max.

3) Another prime reason we chose the 8600 "Plus" version was the much larger touchscreen, 4.3" where the base 8600 model's screen is a mere 2.6"; we found this to be very well worth the increased model cost.

Setup goes very smoothly, though I was surprised to find no mention or warning to first removing any prior installed OJ Pro software (which has been an HP issue for a long time), and did find that it still can be. We 'tested' installing one without removing the previous first, and the disc does not automatically do this or search and warn if one is found, so be sure you uninstall any pre-existing OJ Pro machines first to be safe.

I can't comment on the wireless operation, as it's been our experience that wireless setup is tentative at best in our offices, subject to interference from other equipment we use, and even when working well comes with a major lag to prints actually starting, so we stick to hard-wired printer connection.

The 'print from anywhere' e-printing feature does look like it may be very useful to us as an alternative to fax for our international clients who often don't have access to or problems with successful overseas fax transmission.

Otherwise the OJ Pro 8600 series looks to be solidly built, well designed, a bit quieter, and will hopefully live up to the high marks it has earned in market reviews.

Lastly, a minor "shame on you, HP" for their having failed to edit their copy/pasted remark of "...accelerate productivity with apps on the large touchscreen..." in description of all three model versions when the base 8600 lacks such; this can lead to some buyer confusion, so read those descriptions carefully!

Wireless, double-sided printing, excellent value!

Great wireless printer. Had some difficulty printing on odd-shaped items that were not in the printer's "list" of sizes, but I was able to work around that problem with about an hour of effort and using the photocopier, which DOES have a paper-size override. Printer enables subscriptions to online publications, delivered on a pre-established schedule without any effort past the opt-in. Prints on both sides of paper, great for last-minute brochures and books for my kids. Overall, a great printer with few flaws.Read full review...

HP 8600 product review

This printer replaced another printer that was the same model and brand. Even though the previous one died and would not even power up, I felt comfortable buying another to replace it. Product works greats and definetly meets my needs. Read full review...

HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Like New Printer

I had an older model of this printer that went out with a bad print head. When I saw this one online for the same price of a new print head, I decided to buy this printer for parts. However, it was a newer 8600 model that started up, printed out a document in short order. I will use my old printer for parts if needed. Great printer at a very good price.Read full review...

Great Printer

Great print quality in both black and in color. I have three of these printers and they all work great and one of the best parts is they all use the same ink cartridge so I don't have to but a lot of different types and I can trade them around if need be; Too bad HP does not still make this printer as it is 300 percent better than the newer models. My wife has one of them and it is no where near the printer the 8600 Pro Plus is. .Read full review...

The HP Officejet Pro 8600 is your complete office machine!

I purchased the HP Officejet Pro 8600 because it had all the features of the more expensive printers but the clean, clear, capabilities to do a professional job.
It is very easy to operate; if you know how to set up your computer to do what you need; you can operate the Pro 8600 via the screen computer.
I operate mine by my internet connection and it reads wifi great and I've not had any problems keeping it online and calling for the job to get done.
It's reception from other rooms is awesome; I can be working on my computer in another room - hit print and it's finished before I get there to pick it up.
It is a very efficient machine.

Great printer and best value seller for the money

I have purchased a lot of printers over the years but this one really does it all. It easily installs on our LAN at home, it does B/W or Color printing on demand from any device.
It Scans easily with multiple options of color and resolutions to control the finished product size. The enclosed OCR works nicely and it great for the price, "Free with purchase".
It is accessible by both Windows and MACs on our network and it great for wireless access by the iPads and Mini's.
It easily does double sided printing or copying, and the document feeder picks up multiple types of paper without jamming or sticking.

It was well packed and easy to put together, I have not seen any downsides for our use for almost 30 days.

Choose another printer, you will save in the long run.

The one thing they do not put in the rating is printer quality. They use print quality to subvert the quality of the printer itself. This printer has all the features and is good while it is working. BUT! It's not good for pictures and the quality of the printer itself is below average. HP use to make quality printers but their prints are going the way of their computers, down hill. It has a printhead that is known to go bad and has caused this printer to quickly loose it's value. The printhead is expensive to replace and is subject to go out at any time. The problem is the circuit board for the printhead. It is programed some kind of way and can easily loose it's programing. Just touching the circuit board can cause a static shock which will wipe the program and the head becomes useless. You can still see the ink cartridges through the printhead but can't use the printer at all. This is another flaw. If the printhead goes out, you should at least still be able to use the other functions of the printer until you can replace the printhead. If you buy this printer, make sure you get the extended warranty. A new printhead will cost $79. to $150 plus tax and shipping. My printer is 12 months old and now it is decoration on the printer stand.Read full review...

Ink Efficient

We bought this as our second HP 8600 Pro, because we love our first one and needed a second. Very efficient on ink, good prints, and very easy to use as copier, or scanner or Fax. Looking for a good multipurpose machine, go with one of these.Read full review...
