Hot and Sleek
This is well made. Easy to clean. Unlike Cuisinart and other brands I have tried, this gets the coffee to the right (hot) temperature. And It allows you to preheat the water to get it even hotter. The only drawback is that it takes a long time to brew a cup. You can't have everything. If you like it hot, then you will be fine with this brand. If you want it fast ... go elsewhere. Love my Hamilton Beach Single Serve Coffee Maker
I bought this same coffee maker several years ago and used it until it totally fell apart (can't remember why but it lasted forever of very heavy use). I bought another coffee maker off the shelf and I'm fine with it and still use it but, boy, did I miss my little Hamilton Beach Single Serve Coffee Maker because it was perfect. I'm making myself a cup of coffee right now. I highly recommend it to anybody who wants a good cup of coffee without any hassles or any nonsense with that pod nonsense. Fill the cup you plan to use with water and pour it into the coffee maker and put at most 2T of coffee in the reusable filter basket, put the cup underneath the filter, and hit the button. Perfect. This is our second one we've bought. after years of use several parts of the coffee maker had begun to deteriorate a bit, slowing the brewing process. We were going to replace parts of the maker when I found this one for half the price that we originally paid. Now we can donate the working original one and use this one for another 6 or 7 years. Best Single Serve Coffee Maker
One of the easiest coffee makers to use and clean. I wanted a new coffee maker that was single serve and easy to use. I also didn't want to deal with disposable plastic K-cups that end up in landfills. This coffee maker fits all of my criteria; brews a single 8 oz. cup or 14 oz. travel mug, it uses fresh ground coffee instead of cups or pods, is easy to clean and makes a very flavorful cup! There are 2 brew functions to choose from, regular & bold. I use the bold setting as I like to add frothed milk to my coffee. It does not have a water tank, it has a small reservoir for just the amount of water needed for each brew. I like that there's no water sitting stagnant when not in use. The brew basket is a stainless steel mesh rather than plastic which I very much appreciate. All removeable pieces can be rinsed clean under running water and the machine gets a vinegar/water descaling once per month. Absolutely love this thing! Read full review...

Nice coffeemaker that doesn't use pods
This is my second 49981A coffeemaker, the first one broke after 4 years. It's hard to find a single-cup maker that doesn't use pods. I wanted a single-cup maker with a permanent filter. Sure pods are more convenient but I hated the waste they produce, and like having more choice to use the coffee I like. The 49981A makes a nice cup of coffee and is consistent. I researched and researched this before purchasing, looked at opinions of pros and cons. I needed a small stylish non Keurig brewer and this one fit the bill. It appears that there may have been an issue with grinds leaking into your cup previously with this model and folks were recommending also using a paper filter. So bought some before my unit arrived but have not used one. My grind is course enough for the double filter system in the unit. Coffee very hot prior to my massive input of cold creamer. Strong enough for me. Make sure you read the directions. Seems people think they are too smart to do that then complain and leave a bad review, this is how we weigh in nowadays. Read full review...

Great single serve coffee maker
This is the second unit I've owned. The first lasted 4 years before the water sensor stopped working, rendering the unit dead. I noticed the product's model number changed with the addition of an A at the end, I imagine the company changed the model number after switching to a more durable water sensor. Ratings were terrible because sometimes the water sensor would fail after just a few months. Ratings provide feedback to manufacturers and power to the people!
This machine makes great coffee using regular ground coffee. The cost is about 5 cents per 14oz cup. Compare this to K cups, whose cost is finally coming down to about 25 cents per k cup. Why pay five times the cost and have all the landfill consequences of K cups? Thinking this way is what makes me a Republican.Read full review...
