Excellent, even for older locos.
I have both Hornby e-link/Railmaster and Hornby Select control on my layout.
I've bought these before and have used them to make my analogue locos into DCC control.
I usually fit an 8 pin socket first and then plug in this decoder.
Never had a problem. Must have converted at least 14 locos with this decoder. Then changed some of them for Hornby TTS sound decoder. Very pleased with both.Read full review...

Hornby Decoders
If I had realised this decoder was made so badly I would not have bought the Hornby DCC control unit. I have had 3 disintegrate and am now on my 4th with wires coming out. I thought it was my fault but had been informed recently many other people have had the same problem. If this problem persists why don't Hornby get this quality sorted? I have 12 locomotives in my collection and at about £16.00 each with postage I have felt cheated.
I would not recommend this product but the service from the UK suppliers has been excellent.

Easy job.
First time I have tried to fit a decoder in to a locomotive and it was easy after reading the instructions that came with it and it won't be the last great product.

Good but one not so good.
I bought six of these, five were installed and worked without any problems, all good as used before. Sadly, one is malfunctioning and will be sent back to the supplier. Hopefully, I'll get a replacement without any unpleasantness. I'll post how I get on. Read full review...

Poor DCC Chip
Some of the wires came of they are very thin you have to be very careful when fitting if you want to hardwire to an older model that as no DCC plug. Ended up binning it. There are better chips at lower price if you look around I have found.Read full review...

dcc decoder
Bought a couple of these for my Son and they are super easy to install if your trains are DCC ready. If not its just as easy if you are comfortable with soldering iron, to remove existing wires to the contact brushes and put this unit inline. Just be cautious on older trains, they might need a little more planning before unsoldering the old wires.Read full review...

Hornby DCC J36 SOUND
No instructions for fitting had to go on you tube to find out how to put it in. Also tender wiring had to be lengthened to go around the speaker. But it was worth the extra £17 on top of the basic decoder. Read full review...
