beautiful movie with fluffy plot...

Zhang Yimou is at it again, beautifully choreographing unbelievable fight sequences set in even more unbelievable settings (bamboo forest this time). Zhang Zi Yi also delivers an enrapturing performance as a blind court dancer. The chemistry between her character and the two male leads is also red hot. There are at least two unforgettable scenes that will leave you gasping for air and then asking for more.

All the ingredients are there for a great movie. But unlike Yimou's previous martial arts movie, Hero, House of Flying Daggers falls short of its potential. The movie opens with great expectations, setting the stage for a great love triangle between Zhang Ziyi and the two male leads. However, it trips on its own complex plot and ultimately ends abruptly and leaves you unsatisfied.

Still, it is worth seeing for the choreography and if you appreciate the genre.Read full review...

Good movie, somehow low quality.

I bought this movie on DVD and the movie is very good. Ok story, but Ziyi is just so pretty and the main characters have are not shallow. Only down fall is that, somehow this dvd looks terrible on my computer. It looks almost as if it was standard quality and not even DVD quality. It could also be that I have gotten used to 720 and 1080 resolutions. I don't know, but I have since ordered this in Blu ray instead, which I should have done so from the start.Read full review...

Stunning!

Zhang Yimou is the greatest film maker of all time in my book. Kurosawa is neck and neck with Zhang, however. It appears that Zhang has studied Kurosawa yet this is only a small part of the unique style of directing that is only Zhang Yimou. The cast is extraordinary and Zhang Ziyi is tremendously talented as are her male leads. This is a memorable film worth watching over and over.Read full review...

Good film marred by animal cruelty

This is film is both entertaining and artistic. The visuals are stunning, and the story is very engaging. However, I wanted to let you know, if it matters to you, that there was some animal cruelty.r>
I would've enjoyed this film if not for the horrible battle scenes where we see horses being tripped and beaten. They did not look like stunt falls (stunt horses usually fall on their sides, NEVER on their heads), so I did some research. Sure enough, it's animal cruelty. Scenes were cut for that reason, but enough remains that we can guess how many horses were injured or killed in the making of this film. China does not have animal cruelty laws, so unfortunately we can expect a lot of this.Read full review...

Beautiful and Amazing. A true Masterpiece!

I loved this movie since it came to the big screen in 2003. The cinematography and the intriguing story line blew me away. Set in imperial China during the Middle Ages, the film hold the viewer under its spell long after the credits stopped rolling. A visual masterpiece and a true labor of love by the producer and an outstanding cast make this film one of the best fictional historical dramas ever produced. This is a fantasy tale, where laws of physics are bent to create the illusion of kung fu magic. Great movie to watch!

I had watched the Chinese version and it had cut quite a bit of the ending. I am very glad to watch this one and finally know how the story ends. The director did a super job to film this movie.

This film is about the love of one woman. It reminds me of reverse love between men and women. Women seem to enjoy the bad boy individual. This time it is the opposite. Its scenes are great with how it is choregraphed. I had seen this film once before on the big screen and that is what prompted me to purchase this movie. I would recommend my friends to sit and watch this film. Some of the fights scenes are great. I would agin buy this movie.
